I think that was a really smart metaphor for the different time periods the games are based on: Red Dead Redemption Era - People was more down to earth and genuinely cared about each other. Grand Theft Auto V Era - People are chasing money and don't take things too seriously anymore.

Breezhome 318 I’ve gone back to gta online, the story of RDR2 is way better but no matter how good it is that’s still only the short term experience, the long term experience is online and that’s where gta beats it, it’s like they don’t even try with RDO. And I’m not even talking about the vast difference in terms of content, I’m talking about core game features and mechanics aka the freedom of HOW you play the game.

In GTA the characters are all dicks with no likeable traits and they never make an effort to improve upon their last life.
when i played gta v, i just felt like i was a spectator. dont get me wrong, i love gta, but when i played rdr, i felt involved in the game, like i was there. if i were to play gta and i saw someone stranded on the road, i wouldnt care. but with rdr, me seeing characters stranded and in need, it would literally make me feel bad for those characters and would want to help them. when i saw arthur die, it almost brought me to tears. when i killed michael, i thought “damn that sucks hes dead” and i continued playing. please everyone who takes time to read this, remember that this is my opinion. and thank you for reading 😊

My father watched me play RDR2 to completion like it was a tv series. He was recovering from spinal surgery and I had at my house for 8 weeks, he couldn't play it himself as it made him dizzy he said, but as a testament to how well it was written and the storyline he said it was one of the best Westerns he's ever seen.
As a big fan of the genre, I’d definitely put the two RDR games amongst the best stories in it. Though, they do get dozens of more hours to develop than the average western.

When I was playing RDR2 story, it overtook me, Like I mean I had dreams about it. When I had to go to work I couldn't focus because I just had to know how it ended. I have never had an experience with a game like that and sadly don't know if I ever will again. Best game ever!

lol better quality what do you except when the game was released in 2013. GTA V also made $800 million in its first day and $1 billion in its first three days. RDR2 made $725 million in sales worldwide in its first three days.
I think the thing that make rdr2 so much better is historical encounters and gangs like the the old civil war battlefield in Rhodes, the civil war veterans across the map, civil war knifes and weaponry and the gangs it’s the little things you start to notices and love. Also I found a frozen Spanish Settler and stole his helmet.
What about GTA San Andreas? And the rdr series a newer series to us than the GTA games. Rdr2 has the benefits of the current generation consoles where as of GTA 4 and 5 did not and where programed into the older generation consols which greatly reduced what rockstar could do with them
God for me it took 60 hours for the main game and then another 20 for the epilogue, I did do some side missions but not too many, although I did get distracted sometimes, I wouldn’t say it would take 300 hours, but it could definitely take longer than I took to do it

I started my second playthrough back in November/December of 2018 and still playing it a year later. I'm at 46% of the story and still discovering new things. Just taking it super slow this time.
Well one of those swords is new and sharper and made out of gold and studded with diamonds and the other is great too, but has been worn down after years of abuse and use.

Excellent list; one point you made really stuck with me, and that was the point about the Wanted system in each game. In GTA V you can walk right down the street with a minigun and wipe out every single living thing in a 2 mile radius but after you die/get arrested npcs, whether they are cops or regular civilians going about their day have completely forgotten about your murderous rampage. The media outlets don’t mention it at all unless it’s strictly an event in the main story. However the people of Red Dead Redemption 2 on the other hand remember everything; it’s possible you took the life of their loved one and they will make sure you don’t forget that anytime soon. I’ve had multiple npcs walk up to me and scream and curse me for slaughtering their husbands and sons, and I can’t even lie and say I didn’t feel at least a twinge of guilt. Red Dead Redemption 2 at least made you feel like you were having major impacts on the world around you due to your actions, and people would act accordingly, whether your actions were good or bad. That mechanic wasn’t just a feature of the main story but also present in the actual free roam game.
I guess the whole gta series has its own way to be a game, usually being irreverent! Aaand, Red Dead Redemption series has its own way to be a game being more serious. I don't think we should compare these series 'cause they're not supposed to be the same. They're different and that's fine!! :)

when i played gta v, i just felt like i was a spectator. dont get me wrong, i love gta, but when i played rdr, i felt involved in the game, like i was there. if i were to play gta and i saw someone stranded on the road, i wouldnt care. but with rdr, me seeing characters stranded and in need, it would literally make me feel bad for those characters and would want to help them. when i saw arthur die, it almost brought me to tears. when i killed michael, i thought “damn that sucks hes dead” and i continued playing. please everyone who takes time to read this, remember that this is my opinion. and thank you for reading 😊

My father watched me play RDR2 to completion like it was a tv series. He was recovering from spinal surgery and I had at my house for 8 weeks, he couldn't play it himself as it made him dizzy he said, but as a testament to how well it was written and the storyline he said it was one of the best Westerns he's ever seen.
As a big fan of the genre, I’d definitely put the two RDR games amongst the best stories in it. Though, they do get dozens of more hours to develop than the average western.

I think the thing that make rdr2 so much better is historical encounters and gangs like the the old civil war battlefield in Rhodes, the civil war veterans across the map, civil war knifes and weaponry and the gangs it’s the little things you start to notices and love. Also I found a frozen Spanish Settler and stole his helmet.
The Red Dead series only with 2 games is miles above the GTA series. Only GTA 4 can compete with them
What about GTA San Andreas? And the rdr series a newer series to us than the GTA games. Rdr2 has the benefits of the current generation consoles where as of GTA 4 and 5 did not and where programed into the older generation consols which greatly reduced what rockstar could do with them

God for me it took 60 hours for the main game and then another 20 for the epilogue, I did do some side missions but not too many, although I did get distracted sometimes, I wouldn’t say it would take 300 hours, but it could definitely take longer than I took to do it

Excellent list; one point you made really stuck with me, and that was the point about the Wanted system in each game. In GTA V you can walk right down the street with a minigun and wipe out every single living thing in a 2 mile radius but after you die/get arrested npcs, whether they are cops or regular civilians going about their day have completely forgotten about your murderous rampage. The media outlets don’t mention it at all unless it’s strictly an event in the main story. However the people of Red Dead Redemption 2 on the other hand remember everything; it’s possible you took the life of their loved one and they will make sure you don’t forget that anytime soon. I’ve had multiple npcs walk up to me and scream and curse me for slaughtering their husbands and sons, and I can’t even lie and say I didn’t feel at least a twinge of guilt. Red Dead Redemption 2 at least made you feel like you were having major impacts on the world around you due to your actions, and people would act accordingly, whether your actions were good or bad. That mechanic wasn’t just a feature of the main story but also present in the actual free roam game.
I guess the whole gta series has its own way to be a game, usually being irreverent!
Aaand, Red Dead Redemption series has its own way to be a game being more serious. I don't think we should compare these series 'cause they're not supposed to be the same. They're different and that's fine!! :)

Edit: so people obviously can't take a joke. The only problem i have with this game is its first person mode. Rdr2 is clearly a third person game and the first person just doesn't feel right
