When I watch cringe, I look away, I stop the video, I blush and I get a really sick feeling in mystomach. It's NOT enjoyable.
And I think the reason is because I relate to the person being cringey. I WAS that little 13 year old kid and my instinct is to be like "leave him alone, stop laughing, he doesn't understand what he's doing" and it's mostly because that was my life as a kid as I WISH I had had someone step in and save me from the ridicule back them. Also, I had to routinely stand up to bullies who were older than me who picked on my older brother who had Asperger's syndrome cuz he was weird and an easy target, so it fell on me to make them go away.
So when I see anything cringey, I get a really upsetting negative reaction too it, cuz it's too real and hits too close to home with both my own experiences and my brothers growing up.

From my experience, the cringe genre on RUclips was big from late 2015 to mid 2017. People like Jacob Sartorius and Danielle Cohn being made fun of by Leafyishere or Ricegum being primary examples. I was one of the millions of people who bullied Sartorius for his music videos, calling them shit, calling him a cringey loser and bullying his fanbase of girls who were older than him and me, and were OBSSESED with him. Looking back on it now, it makes my skin crawl because I went over the line multiple times with insulting them. I can't say the same for Danielle Cohn's fanbase however.
