Another great tutorial thanks Andy. I reckon that tools is excellent and stronger than the plasttic one I broke. As far as getting the plates out, I have a realy quick method I wouldn't necessarily promote as best practice; put the bike down on both wheels and then lean it over quite a lot to the right. Brace yourself to take the weight. It's easy. Then spin the hub with the fingers on the right hand and all the plates fall out straight away, in order, onto your wrist. Takes 15 seconds to empty the stack. All the best
I ordered the set from toine after watching this videos. It didn,t work out at my clutch. When the engine gets warm the clutch did not separate properly any more. I had a lot of tries and conversations with toine about what the problem could be. It ended up in convincing each other, that i am not a bloody beginner as a hobby mechanic , and toine as a mechanic who had installed his kit a thousend times successfully. Anyway the kit is laying in a drawer of my garage right now. And i got used to my ratteling clutch. Maybe i will give it a last try during chrismas vacation. Merry chrismas from lock down Berlin. Cheers
Nice job Andy, I've got a 81 Hailwood that I have had 35 years and after a new entire clutch still rattles ....tis ok, I like the "old school " of my bike ..Thanks for sharing
It’s not the rattle that bothers me Bj. The void that exists between the the basket and the disc pack combined with the cushdrive design can ultimately lead to significant mechanical damage, including fretting of the main gearbox input shaft bearing in the case. I was lucky on my bike as it crapped the inside roller bearing, there was no case damage. This mitigates that issue, arresting the backlash is a byproduct.
Brilliant idea with the home made tool. So all of that noise is gone or is there still some? I've seen a bunch of videos on this bike and there's no way I could live with that rattling constantly. I can imagine every single person first seeing my bike and then asking what's wrong with it making all that noise. Lol. 😂
Where I grew up you got a slap for making a file sound like that 😉😃 Good post though I expect he could get a couple of thousand miles out of that reconditioned clutch.👍🏻
Are you and " This Old Tony " , usa machinists channel teamin up or something. Did the same thing on his Beta this morning.and I am about to do the the same hack on my Rotax. Hummm. Cool vids man.
thanks for the video Sir. Could you make a similar video on the clutch replacement or a video on how to tear it down then put it back again. I have same bike S4 monster gray. same as in the video. Maybe a video on the timing belts also. I will appreciate it very much Sir.
There are lots of Ducati videos on my channel, and several contain the topics that you are asking about. There is a playlist on an entire engine rebuild and there are a couple of videos on timing belts and valve maintenance. There are also about four or five clutch videos. Have a browse around.
DesmoWerx channel. Adam has a ton of 4V engine content, his race bikes are 916 based. Most of my videos are 2V. Here’s the link ruclips.net/user/DesmoWerx
Hello mate I like your tool but at 7:24 when your applying the higher torque to the nut on the inner hub something is flexing? I'm not sure if the lower bolt needed to be a bit tighter or if the whole casing is flexing?? Have a look and tell me what you think?
The centre hub is on a large rubber cush drive. The hub is flexing on it as I load it up, normal for these things. It’s also why this mod was developed in the first place, it keeps the radial loads in check by removing the void between the basket and the hub.
always thought the chatter is inherent to ducati's dry clutches, i thought that was the norm. so basically, if it chatters, then it means it's time for a new clutch? or at least, for a temp fix, like this vid?
I've done a lot of clutches on bikes, but never a dry one. as far as i can see, there are only two advantages, you get less powerloss, and you dont get oily fingers when you have to work on them.
AND they don’t deposit their wear material into the oil. AND they don’t contribute to engine oil temperature increases AND because race bike AND because Ducati 😊
G’day Hugh, they’re available from Biggelaar Performance in Holland, just €100. Find their Facebook page and message them, tell them where you saw it. Have a look at the other clutch videos on my channel, there’s a link to their Facebook page in the description of this one ruclips.net/video/ldW6kMoob2s/видео.html
That basket is a "basket Case" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 cant beat a dad joke!!! seriously I would have told him to get a new one with how worn it was and set of plates before I did the mod. How worn were the friction plates?
FUBAR! He’s ordered the parts now, we’ll sort him out mate. ST2 is coming along nicely Adam, I watched you reassemble the headlight bucket and steering stem. I have to say it is a pleasure to hear someone refer to it as top and bottom yolk, instead of bloody triple tree. Loving the work your doing on it, very professional.
Now that clutch basket is what you would definitely call groovy 😁
Love the clutch holding tool, Andy!
mee too. I gona make one :D
"sounds nice" . Sounds VERY nice. Well done Andy.

Your clutch holding tool is awesome. Great work.
Woow that mod is doin miracles ! the plates and basket were properly at the end of its life ,probably the original 1999 clutch set .cheers!

Didn't expect that much improvement, nice work.
Surprised you didn't say bring it back when you have a new basket and plates and I will fit it then. 😁.
Thats a cool camera angle looking back at the bike as you ride it. Clutch definitely sounded better.
Good job Andy, keeps the clutch useable a little longer. Liked the T shirt!
sounds like a win mate, sweet and simple fix! cheers for the share!
Thanks for watching
@@ANDY5 my pleasure mate!
Bravo! Molto bene, hai fatto un ottimo lavoro
Love the T-shirt Andy. Epic.
A surprising difference for such buggered clutch
Good work Andy as usual

That's a good looking bike. Idk why but that yellow does it for me.
It’s not the factory yellow. I like it too but Adrian doesn’t. He’s painting it Red.
Andy your awesome another great show! Great job I learned alot mate. Tony
Love the T-Shirt.
You are fast becoming the clutch king of Tasmania hahahahah!
Learning a lot from you. Nice 😎
Great job Andy
Natural/ outdoor light sure makes it nice for us too see the work you are doing , especially for an old man like me :)
Nice resurection Andy.

Does Hinson make a basket for those?

Andy's Motorcycle Obsessions I could see something was moving but couldn’t work out what it was! 😬
Well spotted
Same job on my Multistrada 1000. Workshop great.
Greatings from north east Norway. Me and Putin 😅
Great video! Thx

no
I need this for my ST4S. It makes just that much noise. Not just the kit. My basket and the tongs are beat up.
Your winter is sunnier than my summer :-(
Can you fit a quickshifter?
I’ve never seen one grooved that bad
That sound though 😊
Right?
nice vid andy, what mileage is on the duke.
51.5K klms
Oh man. Headphones and filing do not go together.
Yeah, sorry about that. I should have wound the audio down 😕

So you don’t have a blackboard?
Where did you get the parts for the modification?

As you stated - clutch is cactus. Personally I am amazed its so cactus. Excellent quick-fix.
✅
Why don’t you put the 4 inch in the vice like dell. He does it better than you. Just joking Andy nice work mate 👍❤️🏍
The noise when you were filing the basket was bloody awful. Sounded like R2D2 copulating with a rusty trash can.
LOL, sorry mate

I prefer the original tambourine sound...
Wow. That basket is junk. I don't think I would have progressed on that job without new parts.
I hawe 900cc -91 SL :D
This time, is a BIG NO ;)
Del would have soaked them first
clutch is funny but the driving feeling is horrible
Secon time show what you doing step by step thanks
