Sorry Canes fans, I wrote in my notes, “Chatfield 21, 6th d, great puck mover, can play physical” and I wanted to shout him out. I have no idea where I got 21 from and playing 72 games is definitely enough for a playoff spot. For your sake, hopefully I’m wrong about my Isles pick too 😅

The whole thing was embarrassing. "Can he make the playoff roster?!" Tonight was his 17th playoff game with the Canes. He played 72 games this year and had a 8-14-22 with a +15 rating. Maybe don't go off of the 82nd game roster where we sat half our team.

Apparently these guys aren’t aware that the Hurricanes beat this Isles team with a forward lineup that looked like this:
    MacEachern Aho Jarvis
    Martinook Kotkaniemi Necas
    Noesen Staal Fast
    Stepan Stastny Puljujarvi
No Svechnikov, no Teravainen, no Pacioretty who was supposed to be their “deadline addition”. 4 of those guys they had in their stat lingo for most of the series aren’t even currently in the NHL and one who barely played many games after being out most of the year and being in AHL for a while.

    • @SealySinger87

Omg! I forgot MacEachern played last playoffs. I’m honestly amazed we made it as far as we did without Svech or Patch, and no Tuevo because Pageau broke his hand with an uncalled slash.

Its sad the disrespect chatfield still gets. Hed be a top pair shut down defenseman on most teams. The guy is so unbelievably good and under-rated. He almost never makes a mistake and when he does he almost always makes up for it with a goal. He might be my favorite player on the team and thats saying something.

Because Chatfield wasn't always that way, 3 years ago he was a bit of a liability every time he stepped on the ice. But last year and this year he's really come into his own. I think it was the Burnsie pick up and Chatfield learning from him.

Canes fan here. I’ve been a fan of the podcast for years, but this was just bad. I honestly don’t know who picked who to win because I couldn’t make it that far. Looking at comments I can guess at least some of you chose the islanders, which is fine. They are a good team who we split the season against. But this whole video felt like you were being forced to record with no notice. There was a lot of pauses and stalling to make points. Jessie seemed the most prepared for this conversation, Adam and Steve seemed like they haven’t watched a game by either team all year, which is weird because I know the Leafs played them both at least twice. Just so so much of the information was wrong.
The islanders have made the playoffs as recently as last year. And I know this because we beat them in 6 in the first round.
You forgot our captain Jordan Staal exists.
Raanta has been in the minors for months, and Martin’s bad numbers were from his time in Columbus. His only regulation loss with the canes was the last game of the season where we sat 8 of our 20 guys.
And Freddie was 9-1-0 since returning with a .951. That’s more than very good. Sure, he’s had “durability issues” (*cough* still bitter Toronto fans) but he’s literally only played 10 games in 6 weeks. He’s fresh. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rod alternated with Kochetkov like they did down the stretch to ensure he’s not overused. Everyone talks about the Boston tandem. We’ve literally done the same thing since Freddie’s return and it’s worked great.
Please do better. I know you’re making more content these days, but a 5 minute convo before hitting record to make sure you had the right lineups to talk about is the least you can do. Otherwise, what’s the point?

Seriously, I've seen better analysis in a Twitch chat. Almost nothing they said was accurate. Still reeling at them looking at the game 82 lineup (where we rested like half the team) and claiming our center weren't great, leaving out Sebastian Aho and Jordan Staal. No mention of Jarvis, Svechnikov, Necas, horrible coverage of Chatfield, no mention of our special teams (#2 PP and #1 PK), lowest shots against in the NHL, 3rd in points, 3rd in goal differential, 7-3-0 in the last 10 games, eight players with 40+ points, five players with 25+ goals, 12 players with 10+ goals...
I say this as a huge SDPN fan: This is the worst sports RUclips video I've ever seen. Absolutely abysmal commentary. You all should feel embarrassed. Please go look at the most basic stats and rosters for these two teams before making a video about the series.

It really seems like everyone here is repeating what they knew about the Hurricanes from 2-3 years ago and haven't actually watched them play or kept up with Case in point: "The Canes struggle to score." They have a 3.38 GF/GP (8th in NHL) and a 2.47 GA/GP (1st in NHL). Their PP is 26.9% (2nd in NHL) and their PK is 86.4% (1st in the NHL). They have the 3rd highest shots for and THE lowest shots against in the league. Andersen had a 1.84 GAA and a .932 SV% through 16 games and a .951 SV% in his 12 games since returning from injury. We have arguably the best coach in the league. We were third in the league this year with a 52-23-7 record (111 points). The fact that anyone is choosing the Isles over the Canes is crazy. I mean, anything could happen, it's why we play the games, but a pick for the Isles isn't one based in any sort of metrics or reality. I can't believe the odds are basically even. Yes, this is a 2-3 matchup but there are 17 points between them.
The Canes just came back from being down 3-0 with a combined 29-4 shot differential in the last two periods (including 17-1in the third). Shots were 39-12 in total, and that doesn't even count the 36 blocked shots the Isles had to make compared to only 8 for the Canes. That's a 75-20 shots+blocks differential.
It was second-hand embarrassing, listening to y'all talk about the Canes. If I were this bad at my job, I'd get fired.

The Islanders look to have finally adjusted to Roy's system. The big problem when Lambert was there, was when they had leads late in games. They would jump out with 2 or 3 goals, or games where they would go ahead by one in the second, then play a prevent defense. They would let teams walk in, get a lot of good chances, get weak clear attempts, then get caught scrambling which led to late goals where teams would tie the game. Roy has got them attacking throughout the game now. PP has been a bit better, PK and late in games when the other team pulls their goalie, have to be better. 5x5 they are very good. Should be a good series hopefully the Isles can get this monkey of their back this time.

Love you guys and I know you can’t watch every team but you guys REALLY fumbled with this preview. Isles made the playoffs last year without Trotz against these Canes. Bortuzzo is a defenseman not a forward. Clutterbuck plays with Martin and Maclean normally. Aho is healthy and the 1st line center. Chatfield is 27.
Again love your guys content and I’m a regular and I know you can’t follow all teams in depth but a bit too many factual errors here.

Talking about the "strong defense" of the Isles, you should keep in mind that the Isles have the LEAGUE WORST PK at 71.5% and the Canes have the LEAGUE BEST PK at 86.4%. You think maybe that's worth mentioning?
It's like watching a kid present a report that he didn't prepare for. Come on, this is your ACTUAL JOB. Be better. If you're going to make a whole video about a series prediction, learn at least the basics about the teams like the lineup (you're using the 82nd game lineup where like half the team sat) and the basic team stats.

  • @dathaniel9403
    @dathaniel9403 5 месяцев назад

I want you guys to understand, we aren’t clowning you for choosing the Isles to win, that’s just a symptom of the OUTRAGEOUS ignorance of the Hurricanes. You don’t even know who plays on the team! Listing Drury, Kuzy, Kotkaniemi, and Martinook as the center corp and leaving out Aho and Staal, not to mention zero talk of Jarvis, Svechnikov, Teravainen, Necas, Noesen, Skjei, Orlov… This is your job, there are only 32 teams. At least have a lineup of players in front of you from each team.
The fact that they could look at the lines on DailyFaceoff and not notice EIGHT PLAYERS MISSING is egregious.
Be better at your job. If I were this bad I’d be fired.

Islanders playoff success has "kind of gone away". Have made the playoffs in 5 of the last 6 seasons (including this year) and have only failed to get past the 1st round once.
The Isles play a 'boring' style of hockey sure, but aside from actual Cup wins their recent playoff success is better than almost anyone in the league not named Tampa, Colorado or Vegas.

or Carolina. Isles are 2-10 against the Canes in the playoffs since 2019. Canes have made the playoffs six years in a row and have made the ECF twice, including sweeping the Isles to get there in 2019 and beating the Isles 4-2 last year in the first round. Canes have won at least one series all six years. The Canes are the most successful non-Cup-winning team in the last six years.

No one here is upset over the picks, in fact I'm happy they chose the Isles because they were wrong about basically everything else in this video, why not the prediction, too? I'd be worried if they chose the Canes, because nothing else they said was accurate.
Caniacs are trashing them in the comments because they know nothing about our team. They didn't even know Aho and Staal were centers on the team! No mention of any of our best players because they were going off of the lineup from game 82, where our top eight players were scratched. It was embarrassing to watch. Chatfield is 21 and might be scratched in games? He's 27 and played 72 games this year with 8-14-22 and a +15. The only way he's not in the lineup is if he gets injured.
Also, something tells me you're not smiling anymore lol. Five unanswered goals and a 17-1 third period, oof.
