Simple, clear, informative. I have had a 5D for a while but am almost too scared to use it and feel like a fraud for having such a nice camera and no clue. So I often just take my little snap camera with me. This has started simply and I already feel better informed. Nice work.
Hi. Im new to the camera world. I purchased a Canon 5D mark ii last year… Im a beginner so I have no idea what any of the settings are or what they mean. ISO, shutter etc.. Id love a step by step video for beginners…including what everything is and means and how to use it. Thank you for all your help. These videos are helpful.
Holly Lynch Wow, Holly!... Lucky you!... One day, I too, will own one and match-up with a L series lens. Saving money for them now. They are not cheap. For now, I am just an aspiring photographer using entry-level cameras, Canon XT and T3i. Want to get out of that status so bad. Lol. - Good luck with your sweet little baby, Holly! =)Let us know when you are ready to upload pix on the web. I would like to see your work. - Chow!
Hey Sean, thanks for posting this. I have watched several good 5D Mark II tutorial videos and this one is the best. I really appreciate you creating this tutorial.
@@SeanDBrown117 hi, wanted to know if its worth upgrading to 5D Mark iv for wildlife/birds photos or shall I invest on better lense and learns settings more on M2?
appreciate the video. Just got my Mark ii and out of the box the live view mode is disabled. so just to get to the beginning of your 101 lesson, I had to figure out how to enable it. But once I got it, all is good. Thanks.
Holly Lynch, the ISO is the film speed rating expressed as a number indicating ana image sensor's sensitivity to light. The higher the number, the more sensitive and faster the sensor. Although traditional cameras don't have a specific ISO rating, digital do as a way to calibrate their sensitivity to light. ISO is equivalent to the older ASA. The shutter is a mechanism in the camera that controls the duration of transmission the light the film or sensor. Leaf-shutter lenses, which include most view camera lenses and many medium format lenses, contain their proprietary shutters. Capeesh?
Thanx for the video! I just bought a used 5D mark ll- my first:) when i press the "little camera icon" button - nothing happens at all. do you know if there is any settings relavant or its a prob with the cam? thanks anyway
Sean, this was awesome. I've just purchased the Canon 5D Mark III to accommodate my new dream macro lens, the MP-E65mm f/2.8 1-5X. I'm trying to find out how to select a wider? depth of field, not sure if I'm going to be able to do what I want without a software program for layering. I'll be digging through all your training youtubes posting, I just loved it! Thank you!
Not sure what your asking. If you want a Shallow look set your f-stop near 2.8 and add ND filters to the lens front. If you want to see more of the world. Stop down to around F7-F11 around that to see more of everything in focus.
Halo Sean thank you posting your vedio this is helping me a lot.. please what the opening of ISO shutter speed and apenture..because i couldnt find the right details.. I want to take photo with the backround and subject is all sharp photo. I hope you can help me...thank you
Can you please tell me why this is happening, in M mode, i change the ISO and Aperture and i can´t see any difference in "Brightness" in the lcd screen, i have the 24mm-105mm lenses , is it a problem with the camera or me? thanks
awesome video ever than other videos. I hope you will post some instruction video about Canon 5D mark II more. I used lens 24-105mm. Which is the best lens for focus mode? Canon 50mm or 35mm?
Hey, I love this video but my camera is not cooperating with me and I can only control the amount of light entering my camera. I cannot control the rest
@OldieAska You dont need a movie icon like a t2i Just press the camera movie button to the left of the eye viewfinder.. It looks like a camera icon next to it I would stay in M mode for most control of all the camera functions.
I haven't really heard a number of the things that you mentioned here. I have not heard of this "native" ISO but I would assume that it means there is some normal sensitivity that the sensor uses when the gain is not adjusted at all. Do you have any links to more info? Also, I would have mentioned the difference between "On" and "On with the line to the wheen on the back." Photogs also call the opening the aperture and not iris. Overall, looks good, but leaving out some other basics.
hello please help my canon 5d mark ii is only working on automatic mode also I cant seem to find the clear setting mode in my setting many I can only see 6 options please help
Hi Sean. I really liked your tutorial, however, I couldn't even get the full view screen to work. I pressed the button with tha camera icon next to it, but the screen stayed dark. Help?
When I play the recording, after 10,15 minutes the recording stopped automatically and then I have to play the recording again? Why? My auto power is Off. My memory card 16gb 120mb/s (55min).
Hi Sean, just watched your basic 101 for the Canon 5D Mark ll and loved it. Easy to understand and help me a great deal. Do you have any videos on what memory card you recommend for the 5D. I now use a SanDisk Extreme III 4.0 GB Compact Flash. I am a beginner and use both a 28-80 and a 75-300 len(s). Thanks again,
@ Vineeth SA: DOF is not a camera setting, it's a naturally occurring result based on other factors. Mainly your F-Stop and "zoom length". In short, the lower your F-stop and longer (more zoomed in) your lens is, the shallower your DOF will be. Keep in a mind a longer lens will make your subjects seemed more flattened together in space. In other words, things that are far apart may appear to be closer together, or flat, in the image with a long lens. @ Ben Kay: Was your lens cap off?
Sean, I have a 5d mkii just like yours. I am trying to apply your instructions to my outfit. Problem from the outset....your screen is light blue with a darker blue strip on top and bottom, and spot metering. Also you have icons for Shutter Speed, F-Stops, Exp Compensation ruler, (999), ISO and another little icon sitting at the right bottom blue bar, Now most of this stuff is missing from my screen, although I have a canon 24-105 lens. I removed the lens cap and presses the movie icon as instructed. So what I have is a live mode screen. F-Stop icon, exp meter, (999) and battery icon. Please Sean, What am i doing wrong? Patrick
hey I wanted to ask you all what my problem is, if I press the live button my screen is just black and my video after recording too what did I wrong?😅 And is it normal that I have to press the button 3 times that it takes finally a picture?
I cant see any camera icon on my canon 5D Mark 2 ? to take a movie ? only : C3-C2-C1-B-M-Av-Tv-P-CA- and a green box no camera icon :/ Please help and btw great video!
With my canon 5d mark ii (w/o ML) it stops recording after about 8 minutes. I was filming a meeting and I would have to keep hitting the record button again & again. Was asked to film a wedding, but now am nervous. Was using a SanDisk 16 GB Extreme III CF card. Was the write speed not fast enough or was I doing something wrong?
The record time is limited to 4GB of data which is around 12-14 mins. I think the 16GB extreme is fast enough it's just a limit of the camera. Go ahead and shoot the wedding just bring a back up shooter and record at different times.
I have got the 5D Mark II but when I try to increase or decrease the shutter speed nothing is happening what setting should I do to overcome this problem
Chilloutloungeme well its just a matter of setting it up right. The cfn modes( careful with those) for me I make my own user definitions and have changed my cfn a bit. And a lot of times you have to switch settings according to the day. Higher ISO or brightness or maybe Just the right angles:) read up and you'll get it
