I was raised in an orphanage, the Beaver County Childrens Home in New Brighton, Pa. in the 1960's. New Brighton was right next to Beaver Falls, Pa. I don't remember the exact year, I honestly don't remember if Joe was even there, but Joe's mother came to visit and gave all the kids a GI Joe sized Joe Namath figure in full N.Y. Jets uniform. This was at the height of his popularity. That memory always stuck with me. Joe Willie Namath and his family = good people.
Im glad bear Bryant was able to recruit him to play his college years at Alabama, then he went on to have a very successful NFL career, I wish I could meet Joe Namath one day
talked to people who met him, every one said it was a pleasure & he`s the real deal. whenever i see him interviewed he always seems glad to share stories, & is always truthful. seems confident without arrogance, & knows who he is.
Joe Namath ....... simply the greatest. As a Jet, he spent much of his summers in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, working out/training at the UofA. He owned a night club/restaurant there in Tuscaloosa, and the apartment building where he stayed. I lived across the street from his apartment. I saw him every day, sometimes twice, he never, ever failed to wave at me from his convertible Eldorado..... I never once spoke to him, I thought it would be best to respect his privacy...... I think that's why he always acknowledged me. Roll Tide, Joe, Roll!!
I like how his guarantee wasn't because he was arrogant or cocky it was because he believed in the overall greatness of his team not just his own talent and ability
Great interviews. Broadway Joe is such a pleasure. Keep this interview style as it is. This simple style, no moving around camera, no bells and whistles and it's a winner.
Joe Willy is a class act. He had a meeting with Lay Z Boy at a local Monroe, Mi restaurant and somehow some of us local kids found out about it. We all walked in to get a peak at Joe. The manager started to throw us out and Joe stopped him and talked to us for quite awhile. Thanks, Champ.
Broadway Joe is my all-time favorite NFL player. This is one of the many reasons why. For my money, "The Guarantee" is easily the coolest thing an athlete has ever done. Love you Joe!!
Joe, will always be # 1 in my opinion. He was so exciting to watch. His passes were laser-like, causing many balls thrown ending up in the hands of defenders. Long live the great Joe Willie !
Thanks Joe for all the existing moments in your career, when you predicted that win , I know it’s because you believed in yourself and your team, to me that’s what winners are made of, God bless you sir
Talking to him He's just equipped with that cool relaxing charisma. He's charismatic but like not in a electrifying way but In a relaxing cool kind of charisma
I always thought it was interesting that in 1969 the Baltimore Colts & the New York Jets get to the Super Bowl & the Baltimore Orioles & New York Mets get to the World Series & the underdog New York team wins both times. Namath wasn't being cocky. He was confident. The Jets weren't getting any respect from the Colts or the NFL & Baltimore was cocky & overconfident. And Namath was right, the Jets defense was the #1 defense in the AFL.
In my opinion, Joe Namath is the best QB in football. His graceful style and pure passing ability are unsurpassed. This is an excellent interview with the absolute best quarterback in NFL history!
Steve Goodman ikr...Joe Namath is TRULY one of the GOOD guys !! HE single handedly MADE the SUPER Bowl the game it IS TODAY ......a FACT NOT up for debate !🏈😁👍👍
Hay Joe I was at your very last game, and they say it never rains in California!!! So sad to see the Rams lose that game and you walk off the field for the very last time.
as surprising and memorable as the jets SB upset was, the AFL-NFL merger was already agreed upon previously, back in 1966 ,and was to take effect in 1970.
loyaldude10 it was but the public opinion was that the afl teams were years away from being able to compete with the nfl and that the super bowl would be boring as hell
The NFL and the AFL had already agreed to the merger as far back as June 8,1966. They even agreed to form one league in 1970 on that date. I like Namath but he's totally incorrect on this issue at around the 3:30 mark of this video.
Joe's right about how the AFL was viewed by fans at the time. Most people, including myself, thought of the AFL as inferior or like the "minor league" to the NFL. Super bowls III and IV changed all of that.
I don't understand why his & coaches got mad at him guaranteeing a win I thought confidence was good.. what they want him to say? I guarantee we lose 😂
Myles it's called bulletin board material. That's the type of shit that will make your opponents get all riled up and angry and play even harder lol. But hey, they won so fuck it right
Usually these type of statements can motivate the opponent to kick the shit out of you , they want you to have this mindset, but not to express it publicly
I would really like to see this interview with Joe...but I refuse to watch it 4 minutes at a time just to jack up this guy's (who I have never heard of ..ever) channel - one for every question. Just stupid.
Can anyone explain why this bum won super bowl mvp lmao he didnt even score!?!?! ill never understand that. What because his guarantee? I thought MVP was awarded for in-game performance
Joe Namath is the most overrated Quarterback to ever play the game of football 🏈 173 touchdowns to 220 intercepted passes His passer rating was mediocre compared to Joe Montana His completion percentage is nothing compared to Tom Brady Dan Marino had a much better arm than Namath Aikman had better mechanics than Namath I can give you a list of pro football quarterbacks of the 90s/early 2000s who were better but it will take forever and I don’t wanna waste my time Point Is He shouldn’t have been on this list nor should he be in the HOF One word: OVERRATED
From a strictly statistical perspective, you're absolutely correct. I actually did a little reading on the subject, and I get your point. However, Dan Patrick (who agrees with you) said something that resonated with me. Namath won the greatest game in football, which changed the game forever. Should he be in the HOF for one game? Maybe not, but many fans consider him a legend. And maybe being famous, and his contribution to the game, rather than his stats, is why he's in the HOF.
4007 yards passing in 1 season. 14, not 16 game season. You have to take things in their context. Ask anyone who was around when he played. All of the guys you mentioned would not have survived & thrived in the league back then.
I was raised in an orphanage, the Beaver County Childrens Home in New Brighton, Pa. in the 1960's. New Brighton was right next to Beaver Falls, Pa.

"Life is a team"! Let that sink in. One of the best quotes I've ever heard.

I remember reading Johnny Sample's book when I was a kid. Joe is the definition of a professional with class.
Broadway Joe is my all-time favorite NFL player. This is one of the many reasons why. For my money, "The Guarantee" is easily the coolest thing an athlete has ever done. Love you Joe!!

Jay Emm EXACTLY !! Joe was the MAN !!🏈😁👍
Well Said !
As a huge Baltimore fan (Colts and Orioles) that year was brutal. It was also the same year that my brother died. 1969 - what a year it was.
2:25! The look on Joe's face! So happy.
such a legendary personality
In my opinion, Joe Namath is the best QB in football. His graceful style and pure passing ability are unsurpassed. This is an excellent interview with the absolute best quarterback in NFL history!

"i call them basketball checks....because they bounce" (hysterically funny to me) 04:00
as surprising and memorable as the jets SB upset was, the AFL-NFL merger was already agreed upon previously, back in 1966 ,and was to take effect in 1970.

God bless Joe beaver falls
I don't understand why his & coaches got mad at him guaranteeing a win I thought confidence was good.. what they want him to say? I guarantee we lose 😂
Myles F.I.G.B
Superstition, bud. Confidence is definitely good, but don't "jinx" it.
The fix was in....
no it ain't.
Fix? Please elaborate
Get yourself fixed
Proof? Yeah,I thought so..
I would really like to see this interview with Joe...but I refuse to watch it 4 minutes at a time just to jack up this guy's (who I have never heard of ..ever) channel - one for every question.

I can give you a list of pro football quarterbacks of the 90s/early 2000s who were better but it will take forever and I don’t wanna waste my time
Point Is
He shouldn’t have been on this list nor should he be in the HOF

By this “logic,” Gale Sayers should not be in HOF or Sandy Koufax in baseball.
You a idiot
So jealous. ... He might have sucked, but, still BROADWAY JOE
