    Learning ball handling in basketball is like learning to shred on a guitar. If you don’t know how to shred and you try to learn by playing as fast as you can, your playing will just be sloppy and you won’t actually learn the muscle memory to do it correctly. Same goes for ball handling, you have to start slow and take it slow, so you learn it the right way (and don’t have to go through the extra trouble of un-learning the wrong way).

    ya gotta get outside & walk, jog, run with the ball. Just dribble around your neighborhood for 30 minutes a day. Incorporate dribbling with your cardio. You will become very comfortable with the ball after a while.

      Doing cardio with the ball helped me a ton. Makes you faster with the ball and comfortable at higher speeds

      I dribbled throughout my apartment complex every day when I went outside… I would take my ball every single day when I went to my friends house… when they came outside and we walked to get our other friend(s) house to get them to come outside I was dribbling the entire time… when I first left the house it was these 2 long sidewalks, and 1 was behind the apartments where it was only the fences of the backyards of the apartments on the left side and on the right side it was a metal fence separating the apartments from the parking lot of a little strip of stores and I would run full speed down that sidewalk going that back way to my friends house… and the sidewalk had a little downwards slope so I was going downhill running full speed, so it kinda accelerated me forced me to do speed dribbling until I got to the end of the fences where it was back out in the open where I would stop abruptly so I wouldn’t get seen speeding running with the ball by anyone lol…I just loved to dribble the ball and I loved to run really fast… my aunt used to live around the corner so my big sister and cousin would tell me to run and get somethin and they said that would time me… well my aunt live basically on the end apartment of the sidewalk that I would dribble down… but when I ran to her house it was only to speed run ( without the ball) and I would try to beat my run time… they would lie and say I beat my record but it forced me to run my fastest cuz I always wanted to beat my record lol… man that stuff must’ve helped me so much because coming up that was my play style… soon as u get the rebound kick it to me and we pushin it full speed.… so coming up i ran a run and gun offense cuz I pushed the ball at high speeds and found the open man whether it was my shooter or my big man running wit me …. Man those were the days… I still hoop but I’m not as good as I was when I just dribbled everyday just running having fun as a kid… I had naturally handles and moves from just dribbling so much … now kids barely go outside these days… it’s kinda dangerous outside now tho but yeah let me quit rambling haha

    I was waiting for you to mention footwork. Footwork is the key to good dribbling. The goal is to get your body from point a to b. If the feet are efficient the dribbling will come with work. You don't even need to be a prolific dribbler if you have good footwork.
    It's almost like boxing, if your feet aren't under you can't throw fast punches.

    I'd say being a Ball Handler has nothing to do with being great at dribbling. You can have simple yet effective dribbling but you know how to get to spots or to beat your Defender.

    • @VisionDrivenBasketball
      @VisionDrivenBasketball  6 месяцев назад +12

      I think you’re partly right. You don’t need to have a crazy deep bag full of “moves”. But you do need have a certain level of ability to control the ball, especially when you’re moving at fast speeds. That will get rid of the limiting factors that would potentially prevent you from being able to get to spots or beat your defender.

    I was a D1 point guard at Stanford and one of the best ball handlers to come out of nyc (very few drills). Once you understand the concepts and then get a feel for the ball you should be able to dribble. Sounds like as a kid you never learned or truly understood the concept of ball-handling.

    • @VisionDrivenBasketball
      @VisionDrivenBasketball  5 месяцев назад +1

      Definitely, didn’t understand the it until after I stopped playing and I really dove into it. Have spent a lot of time around high level coaches and players the past few years, it wasn’t until then that I realized what’s truly behind becoming a great ball handler. I didn’t have coaches growing up who got it and could help me, so I had to figure it out. Definitely ain’t NYC where I’m from haha

    Pound dribbles and static ball handling is essential for young players just to build strength. But after you get strong enough it becomes less valuable.

    Thanks for the vid. Btw my coach said to dribble on the wall 15 minutes per day while variating the direction of the ball. Do you think its a good drill in the house?

    • @VisionDrivenBasketball
      @VisionDrivenBasketball  5 месяцев назад

      No I think there’s a lot better things you could do for 15 minutes. I’ve got a couple of shorter ball handling workouts on my channel if you go to the ball handling playlist if you need ideas!

      Good question! I’ll make a video going deeper into that because there’s a few things you can do but here’s a workout that specifically works on becoming less stiff with the ball and becoming shiftier/playing lower: ruclips.net/video/JdFxgliCZIQ/видео.htmlsi=_81H7NZPx4EIWVvX

      Sure, doing something will get better results than doing nothing. But I could have had significantly better/quicker results if my approach and understanding would have been different. You can dig a hole with your hands, but it’s much easier and faster with a shovel.

      “sin willfully” is to commit the specific sin of knowing that Jesus is the final sacrifice, and not to accepting His finished work. It is not referring to the deliberate sins a believer commits after he or she is saved. For we are not perfect but as you faith grows it should be impossible to sin
