How to Reset Windows to Sell Your Old PC - How to Windows Audit Mode aka OoBE(Out of Box Experience)

- No matter how much we love our PC's the time always inevitably comes where they no longer meet our needs or expectations and we must replace them with a shiny new one. Our old PC's are very often still fully functional and rather than throw them away we will either give them away or sell them to someone else. Obviously we don't want to keep all our information on the computer allowing it's new owner access to things like our bank account information and our log in ID's and passwords to all the various websites we use, so before transferring ownership of our computer to someone new we're going to want to clean off all our information and prepare the computer for the new owner to log into it and set it up as if it was their own, brand new computer. In this video I walk you through two different methods to reset your computer back to it's factory/like new configuration. In the first method I show how to do a simple reset from Windows and in the 2nd I show how to create Windows 10 installation media to a flash drive and how to install a fresh copy of Windows. In the 2nd method I also show how to log into Windows Audit Mode to create that Out of Box Experience you get with a brand new computer. This allows you to log in as an Administrator to install drivers and other programs you want to install on the computer leaving things just like they would come out of the box from any other system integrator like Dell, HP and others. Say you are just booting up a computer for the first time with a windows usb drive do you just do the control shift f3 and install drivers and do benchmarks then use the little pop up to shut down the pc?
Yup, you use ctrl, shift, F3 to enter Audit Mode, install whatever drivers or applications you want to install then use the little OoBE Window thing to shut it down once you're all done.

I'd love to see a more detailed tutorial on audit mode and OOBE. Things like how to create a default user profile with a custom wallpaper and theme, and how to change or remove settings like Cortana and tracking by default. I'd like to build and sell computers and I think this would be a great way to personalize and debloat the builds.

This is the first time I’ve heard of the audit mode, I just built my dad a new 5600g build and I needed to install all the drivers for him so it’s ready to go once he powers it on for the first time. Lucky for me I just installed windows so it’s an easy fix.
Knowing how to use audit mode when you're building computers for other people is awesome.

While trying to install Nvidia Drivers on my pc, it couldn't complete the download because the pop up window that was there when first entering the Admin Mode, so i canceled the little window and it then allowed mw to proceed, but now that winow is gone, if i click shutdown like we normaly would will it stil save everything i just did?
Excellent video. Comprehensive from what I saw. I suppose you could make one for windows 11. Perhaps make a directory of common manufacturers and the button to press for bios and boot settings.

Yah, you should be able to choose reboot later or you can reboot and press control + shift + F3 again and go back into OoBE.

If I have to do reboots while installing drivers, updates, etc, do I have to do the keyboard combination every time it reboots?

I have a retail copy of windows 7 pro, I upgraded it to Windows 10 Pro when they offered upgrade.
I am getting a new PC which will have Windows 10 pro on it.
I want to sell my old PC which has the existing windows 10 pro, do I have to de-activate myself as a user for that?
When the OOBE kicks in does the new user activate windows with their details, yet retain my licence?
If i do the recovery mode, not the USB method, does new user have chance to activate the windows?

Do you have to redownload drivers?
I'm selling my old PC, should I do "just remove your files" or "complete data erasure?" I'm concerned because it says just removing files is less secure. Also when I do it, mine does not say "remove all files only from the drive where Windows is installed" like it does in your video.

I'm selling a used laptop. How do I create a generic account, so that I can show the buyer that everything works? Having it come up to the OoBE screen won't convince someone that the PC is working normally, at least where I live.
Greetings from Tri Cities :). Also, why won’t my computer turn on anymore? If I plug the power cord into the wall, it’ll turn on for a sec and the shut off. And the power button doesn’t work when I click it.
Hmmm... that doesn't sound good. Could be several different things. Possibly the power supply or the motherboard? Those would be the first things I'd look at. First I'd check the easiest thing which is if the wires for the power switch are properly connected to the motherboard. If they are I'd try swapping out the power supply. If that doesn't change anything then it's probably something with the motherboard. It's really hard to say for sure though not seeing what it's doing myself.
an even easier way of wiping out youre pc i remember back in the day you use to have to buy software and install a cd technology sure has changed for the better!
