  • With Lightning Protection System (LPS), the component parts are Air Termination, Down Conductor and then Earth Termination. About the Air Termination there are either horizontal or vertical air terminal conductors. About the vertical air terminals, mainly Conventional Air Terminal Rods (Franklin Rod) & Early Streamer Emission (ESE) Rods are there. Now, whether the ESE Rods are accepted in our Indian Standards? That is the topic explained here in this video. Please watch it fully & support.

    sir good explanations

    Good explanation. ESE is flouting all national standards, including NFC. I found it tough to manage those ESE promoters when rejecting them in Tamil Nadu. But they have a strong lobby that lures the contractors and engineers. The ESE concept is "No risk assessment, no design aspects as per IEC; Just insert a magic rod called ESE rod atop a building and have cable as down conductor; That is all !!!" Very pathetic.

      Yes sir, very pathetic. In Kerala also, many laymen call me regarding this. The first enquiry/quotation that they get is based upon ESE. Many falling in trap. For a home say 1500Sqft ESE do it with Rs. 55000/- but when we move to the conventional system it may go up, the material quantity being more. Finally the people opt ESE.

    Nice awareness creation topic. ESE is a science fiction. It is not accepted by scientists. In ESE lightning protection system, the installers just provide an attractive air terminal and insulated cable as down conductor. So there is no chance for equipotential bonding which is a requisite condition to avoid damage to sensitive equipments.
    ESE appears to be simple and catchy to the end user. There is a highly influential and commercial lobby behind this ESE activity and it is very tough to overcome it.
    The users are either lured or impressed by believing the ESE as a magic box through the ESE mafia. ESE rods are gaining popularity among the rural folks and engineers.
    It's heartening to note that fake products gain easy route in implementation in our country.

      Absolutely agree! Here in my country (Dominican Republic) these “magic rods” are gaining a lot of popularity. And one of the reasons is the lack of scientific research by the engineers who prefer to take the “easy route” on lightning protection systems (promised by the ESE vendors).

    As long as consultants stick to IEC 62305, they would never approve of ESE device. It is just a gimmick to save cost but risking lives/structures by using something which is not recognized by international regulations

    • @AJElectrical
      @AJElectrical  Год назад

      IEC 62305 is also International Standard which doesn't approve ESE. Which is the other regulation you told approving ESE? French standard? Implementing French Standard as such it is okay (but not in other countries), but what we see ESE implementation in India is not as per even this French Std.

      @@AJElectrical That is what I said. NFC 17 102 (French standard) approves ESE and also takes the complete Risk Assessment calc part from IEC 62305 but when it comes to design implementation, they have their own formulas which are not accepted by IEC. As a matter of fact, NFC std mentions on their forefront that they don’t take reference from IEC 62305 and that’s why they are rightly questioned and then rejected by IEC.
