I'm a 49 year old man and I absolutely love this movie. It is so far removed from what I usually watch but I am transfixed by the look and feel of this movie. May have watched it ten times.
My 62-year-old father loves this movie for its cinematography. :)
My husband, who shares your first name, is 61, and loves it as well. It’s a lovely film to watch.
This movie is terrible ... because they have to RUSH THROUGH THE STORY ... just compare it to the BBC miniseries from '95.
@@Muck006 Terribly well done in spite of that :)
This book was given to ww1 soldiers with ptsd as therapy to bring them back into society......that is how good it is.
The only thing missing in the role reversal is a cowgirl hat and a bowl of popcorn for the Mrs.
I was thinking the same thing!!
The only thing missing was him sipping on water after the emotional scenes and saying "Super!"
“Def not gone girl, that would be bad”. I about died. Good job keeping a straight face on that one.
Sense and Sensibility is amazing. Emma Thompson actually won an Oscar for the screenplay that she adapted. Emma with Gwyneth Paltrow is very good as well, but the best adaptation of that novel is definitely Clueless.
100% agree with everything you've said, and now Anya's Emma is on the list
Yeah, even though Thompson was a tad bit too old for Elinor, she nails the feeling of the character so well, it is astounding. The script is written too well as well.
The Emma Thompson one was terrible, because it was taken "as a joke" ... the one with Kate Beckinsale is much better.
Gwyneth sh!t Paltrow??? Lol. That b**** stole the role in Shakespeare in Love, gave it to Harvey Weinstein, and even stole the Oscar of Fernanda Montenegro or Cate Blanchet!
@@Muck006 Emma Thompson wrote the screenplay and acted in Sense and Sensibility. Kate B was in Emma, a totally different book. You are confused.
I cry every time when her Dad is so happy for her at the end and says he could never let her go except to basically see her as happy as she was.
Same! ❤
I’d take a roll reversal every once in a while! This was fun.
ya. nice to hear her commentary and thoughts on stuff she likes
Yeah, like maybe once a quarter they do a role reversal reaction.
Next up.... The Notebook
*role
So during my final year of college I lived with 2 of my female friends / co-majors in an apartment. We had no cable or internet as we were very poor college kids, however, we did have a handful of DVDs and this movie was one of them. I remember rolling my eyes the first time we watched it, but it totally grew on me up until the point it became one of my favorite movies we had, and I still speak very fondly of it today.... 10/10 would highly recommend!
"The thumbnail of me alone is going to draw thousands of viewers"
Correct!
One of my favourite bits is when the father says "Your mother will never talk to you again if you don't marry him and I will never talk to you again if you do."
I can already tell I love the role reversal.
I love Donald Sutherland as Mr. Bennett in this adaptation. Thank you for the great videos!
Lizzie on the cliff at 24:53 is filmed at Stanage (Stone Edge in Old English) Edge in The Peak District of Derbyshire, not far from Chatsworth House (Pemberley in the film), home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The "pretty tree" in the following scene at 25:03 is over 500 years old - more than twice as old as the USA! - and a part of the ancient Sherwood Forest. Not too far away is Little John's grave in Hathersage churchyard. Enjoyed the reaction BTW. Great film.
This is not a reaction I ever thought you guys would do, but I'm so glad you did!!
Yes, yes yes!! Love the role reversal and love the film you chose. I am here for this!
the 1995 BBC version is a 6 part mini series and it's just perfect, you can literally read along from the book , i prefer the mini series story wise, but the cinematography in the film is better also the OST
I must have a shortened edition (or rather 5) of the book because I can't remember Mr Darcy jumping in a lake in the book 😅
@@leuchtkaferchen1639 no lake swimming in the book.
OST?
@@SuperDrLisa yes, I know. 😊 That's my point because of the "you can literally read along". No, you can't. 😊
@@SuperDrLisa I think it's "Original Soundtrack"
By far the most unexpected Movie review you guys have done yet 😂 Loved it
9:42 Lmao the Mrs gives him his shrug!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I literally laughed out loud at the thumbnail. This should be entertaining.
The story is set in the early 1800s. I'm so glad you guys decided to do this one - wonderful film!
from what I remember, the director wanted to use the year the first draft "First Impressions" was done which was in 1796 so that is why the era looks a little crossover with the attire, etc.
Darcy's home is Chatsworth House in Derbyshire, sited in the heart of the Peak District National Park, and you're right, that's a pretty tree in the scene just before we see the house. Chatsworth is famous for it's beauty and for it's gardens, which were designed by the great English gardener Capability Brown. The river was diverted to run in front of the house. There's a gorgeous cascading fountain and many others in the grounds. Thousands visit the house and gardens every year. It's an absolute gem, like this movie ♥.
Background music of this movie is the best, hearing it makes me so calm and comfortable so i have a 3 hours version download in my phone
This was fun!!! Please continue doing this dinamic.... happy valentines day!!!
The adaptation of "Persuasion" by Jane Austen with Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root (1995) is excellent. I think you will enjoy it. It's an underrated gem of a movie. Also my favorite Jane Austen novel.
Persuasion book and the movie are my favorites too.
Ditto!
I enjoyed that too. It's actually part of a series that was made for tv, iirc.
@@aquablushgirl No, the 1995 adaptation with Amanda Root is a film.
The mini-series Pride and Prejudice from 1995 is a very good adaptation as well.
Downton Abbey reactions when? ;)
This is one of my top 3 favorite movies ever 🖤 Happy Valentine's Day!
Ditto! There are a couple of other GREAT historic shows like this that I would recommend. For instance, there's:
HOWARD'S END (the recent 2017 series) from Starz and Prime Video;
NORTH & SOUTH (2004) on BritBox;
DOCTOR THORNE (2019 and written by Downton Abbey's Julian Fellowes...but with a bit more scandal) on Amazon Prime Video;
BELGRAVIA (2020...also by Julian Fellowes...but with a bit more scandal) on Epix;
THE GILDED AGE (2022 also by Julian Fellowes) on HBO;
SANDITON (2021) on PBS/BBC -- with a second season beginning next month.
I'm also currently enjoying the new adaptation of ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL (2021) on PBS -- a true story of a Scottish veterinarian in northern England just before WW2.
The best version of Emma is the BBC mini series, I think. With Romola Garai as Emma and Michael Gambon as her father. It's one of my comfort series, I watch it at least once a year.
Jane Austen lived 1775-1817, so her stories were pretty much contemporary.
Love, love, love this film. Apart from the slushy bit added at the end for the American market. In the UK it ends with Mr Bennet laughing in his study, saying 'If any young men come for Kitty or Mary, for heaven's sake, send them in'. A much better ending.
As an American, I would’ve much preferred that ending. From now on, when I watch this film, I’ll end it there..
I absolutely love the kiss. I don’t care, it was so romantic and lovely, especially with the way Matthew kissed her.
Great reaction. Might want to check out "Sense And Sensibility" with Emma Thompson. I believe it won an Oscar, too.
Needs mentioning that it has Ang Lee as director, many people miss that entirely.
I'm not 100% sure, but I'd say between SaS and Hamlet they definitely netted Kate Winslet the role in Titanic.
Emma Thompson won an Oscar for writing the screenplay.
Valentine's Day always kicks my butt, so much love to you folks for uploading this hilarious reaction. I'm not mad at seeing Mr. Cowboy in the big chair!
Definitely need more of these Mr reactions
I absolutely LOVE the change of pace of having a romance/costume drama film.
It's nice to see a grown man being able to appreciate a romantic movie. Alot of dudes could learn a thing or 2 from this, watching a "chick flick" doesn't make you any less of a man, it's actually a turn on for most women and shows that you're in touch with your sensitive side.
such a good pick. i love this movie. i legitimately swoon and im extremely picky when it comes to romantic movies. kudos to the wifey. :)
The thumbnail is so cute ☺ usually it’s the Mrs. looking terrified. Haha. Y’all need to do this more often. This was a lot of fun! 👍🏼Happy Valentine’s Day you two! ❤
The role reversal was fantastic
After watching probably a dozen videos, I seriously just noticed your headphone hat, and I am in awe.
I wouldn't call it a crying movie, but I always get a little misty when Mr Bennett says "You really do love him, don't you?"
It's such a sweet Daddy-daughter moment.
“There was a long movie back in the 90s, I don’t like it as much” oof. Then a fightin words. In all seriousness I like the role reversal. I vote the BBC miniseries next for comparison. 😜
It’s purely a length issue for me and then also the cinematography of this film just can’t be beat
@@MrsMovies That’s fair enough. I think it’s Colin Firths puppy dog look that really sells the miniseries for me. Haha
I adore this version of Pride and Prejudice!!! You should check out Emma(2020), it is GORGEOUS and so much fun. I never cared for the 90’s version of Emma either. Great reaction!!❤️
There's also a 2007 mini series version of Emma that BBC produced with Romala Garai as Emma and Jonny Lee Miller (Sherlock in Elementary) as Mr Knightley.
It's well worth a watch with several big name actors like Michael Gambon (2nd Dumbledore actor) as Mr Woodhouse.
Also worth noting that Jonny Lee Miller also played Edmund in the 1999 film adaptation of Jane Austen's Mansfield Park.
@@mnomadvfx Wasn't that in 2009? Doesn't matter. That 4 part miniseries is the best version of Emma in my opinion. :)
2020 Emma's costumes are to die for, gods
Oddly enough, this movie is a guilty pleasure of mine. Knightly is beautiful no matter what, but that piano score is just sensational throughout.
I have six sisters. And let me tell you, five is a lot
Whoever sits on that chair must get a surge of sass lol
One of the most beautiful movies of all times. Perfect music, great feeling, great nuances.
A good follow-up to this is Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, both the book and the movie.
I'm taking one for the team along with Mr. Cowboy. LOL
Would definitely not have watched this on my own. Thanks for taking the leap for me Mr Movies! 😆
However I did just recently watch the UK Series "Downton Abbey" (6 Seasons and 1 Movie) in 3 Days! haha
I watched this movie with my mother. I didn't know I could like this kind of movies. If you guys want to continue watching films like this one, I recomend you Little Women (1994).
what a wonderful treat ! I truly love this movie and have seen it countless times as it still gives me butterflies. Was so quick to click on this thumbnail. Happy v Day 💖
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe. Also RIP Ivan Reitman director of Ghostbusters Twins and Stripes. He passed away last night at the age of 75.😔
fun fact, the actress who played Mr Darcys younger sister was the original actress meant to play danareys targaren in GOT before they recast her for emilia
she also played Henry VIII"s fifth (and youngest) queen in "the Tudors" series.
I just noticed your headphones go through your stetson! That is awesome and got a big laugh here.
This is one of my favourite movies, and this reaction gave me one of my favourite dynamics: someone watching the reactions to one of their favourite movies.
This was brilliant!!!
Good on you for watching a movie outside of your comfort zone and taking it serious. This is how you do reaction videos right.
MORE PLEASE!!!
"They could be spending that time practicing the piano." And drawing. And learning languages.
OMG Role Reversal, I LOVE IT
I don't know if anyone pointed it out, but when I watched it I thought at 25:30 she laughed because she saw what she missed by refusing his early proposal. She was going to own all that land.
Ah that's why ! I never understood it.
yeah me too.. I always thought she laughed at the irony of "I could have had all this."
10:40 "Aren't they cousins?"
Very distant cousins. Somewhere back in the past, an ancestor of Mr Collins was a younger brother of an ancestor of Mr Bennett's.
Also, the movie is set in the early 19th Century, about the time of the Napoleonic Wars
Ha! Mr. Cowboy's turn to ask plot-related questions and be pointedly ignored. 😁
I loved the valentines switch up!! Also I bloody LOVE this version of Pride & Prejudice
I LOVED this! The reversal was so fun :) And you couldn't have chosen a better romance to watch!
I have four girls (and a toddler son). Can attest, it is chaotic 😂
Just going to mention the only reason i'm not watching this is because i havn't seen pride & prejudice!
I like this version as well. So visually satisfying. My favorite Austin book is Persuasion, but I like all of them. You might enjoy Last of the Mohicans as well. Also beautiful cinematography.
The things we do for the ones we love. 😂 Good times shout out to you cowboy and the misses.
Thanks for reacting to P&P. I have read the book several times and watched both this movie and the mini-series starring Colin Firth and own both.
You and me both Evelynne!!
You gotta love her trying to show as much enthusiasm as him on the intro
This has been fun. I have never watched this movie but now I have…kinda. Thanks for this! Bravo!
There's a Pride & Prejudice & Zombies movie that's actually pretty good. You definitely should see it after this
TRIVIA: Talulah Riley plays the role of the very solemn and socially awkward "Mary Bennet." In real life. Talulah Riley was married to Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, Starlink, Neurolink, The Boring Company, etc.). They were married in 2010, divorced in 2012, remarried in 2013 and divorced again in 2016). She also portrayed the role of "Angela" -- one of the hosts during the first two seasons of WESTWORLD (HBO).
She's also in two St Trinian's movies which I recommend.
Yes, love to see more reactions from Mr. Movies perspective.
Kudos to him for holding back the sarcastic comments, out of respect, I guess - it was obvious that he did - although, personally, I would've loved to hear them.
Would recommend the Count of Monte Cristo (2002), a movie with both: dose of Romance, and a hearty helping of Revenge.
32:38 Yeah, just showing up at somebody's house in the middle of the night and demanding their attention (leaving out the whole demeaning their existence thing that follows) would be considered over-the-top rude and presumptuous in _this_ day and age. Back then, it would've been absolutely absurd. You didn't just casually hitch up the team and go somewhere at night, even if it was just a few miles. There was no light to see where the hell you were going and the roads were basically just paths. Pretty much the only people who traveled at night were running from someone.
Daaaang, Mr. Movies. Savagely burning your wife on Valentine's Day, and who says romance is dead 😂 you guys are great, great reaction, I love Jane Austen, and I love this movie!
Love this film - the European version ends at the father saying "for heaven's sake send them in". The scene of Elizabeth and Mr Darcy kissing by firelight at the end was only for US audiences.
I adore this movie too! It's like mac and cheese! Totally comforting
This was such a good idea to do the ole switcheroo. I’m not a huge romance fan, but this movie is one of the best!
This is such a superbly directed (and acted) film.
Ohhhhh How the turntables 🤣
Hahaha thank you Michael Scott!
Hope you one day watch the a&e mini series, I think it’s the best version imo. Obviously the best choice for him though. Lol. Not a slight…..condensed is good for first timers. The father with his daughters and wife is hilarious. It’s great, love what ya love….there is no better Mr. Darcy than Collin Firth. “Any savage can dance.”
Of Jane Austen's works, Sense & Sensibility, Emma, Persuasuion, Northanger Abbey, Mansfield Park, and Lady Susan have all been adapted into movies and Sanditon has been adapted into a television series!
This novel was published in 1813. Men and women didn’t touch then until marriage which is why the dance is so special. So many rules & regs back then.
There is a BBC mini series sequel using the same characters called Death Comes to Pemberley which is well thought of. Might be worth a look.
This woman has no soul if this movie doesn't make u cry especially the ending scene with her father. I'm a guy and hope I have the strength of her father in this movie when giving away my daughter .
You guys always so cool! Really enjoyed this
Glad you enjoyed it!
Elizabeth is 20. Jane is 22, Mary is 18 or 19, Kitty (short for Catherine) is 17 and Lydia is 15.
The Colonel Fitzwilliam, the guy who reveals to Lizzie it was Mr Darcy who seperate Mr Bingley and Jane, is Mr Darcy's cousin and the second tutor of Georgiana
Interesting fact to re-view this story through: Jane Austen's original title was First Impressions, especially Mr Bennett's reflected thoughts on his marriage in chapter 50.
Other not mentioned Austen movies (generally most loved first): Persuasion (2007), Northanger Abbey (2007), and Mansfield Park (I love the 1999 movie).
MY late Father was an avid reader and loved Jane Austen novels. So I need to read them as part of my bucket list. You should watch the BBC serialisation from the 90s. The acting is excellent.
There's no specific year stated for when Pride and Prejudice is set, but because of all the soldiers and regiments, it's safe to assume it was set during the Napoleonic wars (1797-1815).
When you call Lydia an idiot...I feel a great sense of injustice for idiots everywhere. A slander like that in the era of this movie, could lead to a duel!
I like this switch up. But I’m sure you’re more in tune with films making this not possible often. Still, awesome to see you in the reaction seat.
Late 1700s to early 1800s was Jane Austen time
Also, the six books are: Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, and Persuasion.
Rubbing my forehead ! the way she does when stressed! Wow! Stay strong you can make it through this bro! Ha❤️
Book was published in 1813 but some think the story is supposed to have taken place half-a-decade earlier. The 6-part series, I believe, was set in the Regency period (early 1800's), due to the ultra-high waistline of the women's dresses. There is also 1940 black-n-white version which isn't too bad, which they set a few decades later, so they could dress the women in the full hoop skirts of the early Victorian era. And this version is backdated a bit into the 1790's, so the waistlines could be somewhat lower. Not sure it really matters other than the fashions, as the manner and social interactions remained the same for a long time.
You should definitely do this more often! 🤩
Practical magic. There is love overall but there is such a powerful love story as a minor plot line. Never forgot it since I was a kid.
One of the most riveting reactions of the year - This has to be the start of a long list of romantic movies reactions. 😁
I love the sarcasm :)
WOW, that was wonderful! I didn't know you were into rom-coms, can I now start a petition for you to have a side-channel with more of that genre? Lol, ok, maybe just a few more on this channel ;)
If I may suggest, please try Priceless (2006) with Audrey Tautou. Not even for the channel, just to watch on your own if you'd like. It might be on Amazon Prime I believe... well worth looking for :)
