      I can agree with this, other than the "they're annoying" maybe some are just easily annoyed? Sounds like an issue they need to solve

    I have seen many of your clips, they're fantastic. Thanks for sharing your experience. Someone like you needs to move to Australia (e.g. Sydney, Perth or Brisbane) where the weather is nice all year round and you can have much more space with a big backyard for gardening. Australia is a country of gardeners.

      Maybe one day! Thanks for your amazing words. Agree that Australia is full of dedicated gardeners, I love it!

    How do you tell when to water the plants since you have the straw mulch on top? Thank you very much!

    • @thefrenchiegardener
      @thefrenchiegardener  4 месяца назад +1

      I simply put my finger in the pot to see if it's dry. Also by observing the plant you can often guess when watering is needed

    It’s quite expensive to do this every season with fresh new compost. Do you have any tips on re-using old compost/ soil over successive seasons? Thanks!

    Great video! Thank you! I love container gardening because it is easier for me and my back as I get older. Question: I don’t have any clay pebbles, but I have a bag of pine bark chips. Can I use those chips in place of the clay pebbles on the bottom of my containers? I have heard they will hold moisture. Is that true?

    Can I use peat moss as a mulch? I bought a huge bag of peat moss and can't remember why...😅

    Lots of plants.. what do you do with plants after season. I have heard about over wintering but dont really understand. How do you make space for all plants indoors and lighting and water requirement when u move indoors

    • @thefrenchiegardener
      @thefrenchiegardener  4 месяца назад

      You have my book "Tomatoes & Basil on the 5th floor" which can answer many of these questions :) You can easily overwinter pepper plants

    Another great video, do you use multi sow methods at all in your container gardens ? , and as a side note, many years ago when i still lived in the uk so thats over 20 years ago, there was a TV show called eurotrash , it was hosted by Jean Paul Gaultier and Antoine de Caune, you sound exactly like Antoine, or maybe my brain is getting to old 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • @thefrenchiegardener
      @thefrenchiegardener  4 месяца назад +1

      Hahahaha I love Antoine De Caunes, he was sooo fun! I do yes but not in pots, more in grow tables as you need more space for companion planting to allow all plants to develop healthily

    What are your thoughts on the material used for the container? I live in a city and the most affordable place for me to buy containers is from ikea. I have some clay pots but thinking about getting some balcony boxes too, though I’ve noticed that a lot of them are made of plastic and have no holes at the bottom for drainage. Are these still okay?

    • @thefrenchiegardener
      @thefrenchiegardener  4 месяца назад +2

      Regarding plastic, the safest to use is HDPE or LDPE, avoid PET for example. If you live in a warmer climate, terra cotta pots are much better, it's natural & it also retains moisture more! On the other side these are much heavier, so make sure your balcony can support the weight.

      Most of the time plastic containers have little circles on the bottom to indicate where to drill your drainage holes!

    Is it okay to use perlite instead of vermiculite?

      His accent is quite understandable. You do have to fill in where you can't but he shows exactly what hes doing as he explains it. But the more you observe the more you can learn from him and his accent. With time you'll learn his speech patterns.
      I listen to people from all over the world and the more you do the more you can decipher it. I listen to lectures from India and honesty there's times where their speech is so quick I can swear they switch back to their native tongue 😂
