  • "Ain't nothing harder than boxing...It takes time to do this sh*t...it's easier to tap out...in boxing, you gonna do one thing or the other. Either you gonna quit or you gonna let a motherf*cker whoop your motherf*ckin ass," stated world-class trainer Roger Mayweather, who explained why he thinks boxing is a more difficult sport than mixed martial arts. Check it out!

As a former Martial Arts competitor and Golden Glove champion, boxing is the hardest sport. Although, Wrestling and BJJ are effective combat sports, you can learn these arts in a calm environment. Boxing hurts to learn. The sparring matches turn into wars etc. It's a clubbing sport. Early MMA and even today, you have people come in and dominate the previous champion. Look at Ronda Rousey (Olympic Medalist) dominate the sport now with a background in Judo. So the sport has not fully developed yet. When kids do MMA and become adults, it may be harder for a Ronda Rousey to step in and dominate. MMA is growing. The Gracie's are no longer feared and the projected winner. If you go to a boxing gym, you will see 5 year olds boxing. MMA is doing this now. I believe that MMA will grow and cross-overs (From Wrestling , BJJ, and Judo) will have a tough time crossing over.

Mixed martial artists spend a significant amount of time learning boxing techniques and they still suck at it. If a boxer spent the same amount of time learning MMA skills they would probably dominate that sport within a short amount of time. An MMA fighter however could probably never become a boxing champion because the sport requires a lot of natural ability and it takes years perfect those abilities and gain experience. In MMA you can compensate for lack of natural ability by being halfway decent in other disciplines.

I understand what he is saying.. no mma fighter has anywhere near the technical proficiency with their hands as a boxer. But MMA is the combination of various martial arts, including boxing. Therefor it is clear that the 'perfect' mma fighter who has learnt everything possible about the sport would take far longer to develop their skill set than the 'perfect' boxer. In fact it is not even a close comparison. Disregarding athleticism for the moment, there are so many aspects of mma that i believe it is IMPOSSIBLE to learn and become proficient in every technique. I dont believe this is true for boxing.

The only reason boxing seems more difficult is because the majority of the strikes are aimed to the head, and they're CONSTANTLY aimed at your head. You're not only bound to get knocked out, but more likely to get long term injuries. Now, what makes MMA more difficult is obvious. There's ample amounts of ways to KO'd/Submitted. Both sides trying to argue which is better/harder is actually them promoting their own sport (AKA their job) and taking the off chance that people will want to look up both to actually try and see which is better. You're all just buying into the hype.

If a boxer and a mma figher were fight in a mma bout and the mma guy wants to stand with the boxer and the boxer is winning in the stand up the mma guy could clinch or kick or shoot or a double leg and either ground and pound the boxer or sudmit him.
Now is the mma figher and boxer meet in the boxing ring the mma guy could switch levels

MMA takes the same amount of discipline as boxing...and all the true greats start from young.. just like floyd with boxing.. It is true that a lot of mma fighters are not great boxers.. but they are proficient across many different disciplines.
In mma if a guy knows he is going against a great boxer.....he will try to take him to the mat right away..if a guys know he is going against a great wrestlers and and submission artist.. he will try to stick to boxing and striking... so it is important to have a well rounded game in MMA.. you dont have to be excellent in all disciplines but just be good enough to get your ass out of trouble. now the legends like silva are good at all disciplines..lol. guys like silva in their prime are MONSTERS...

Here is the thing if you haven't trained MMA you don't know how hard it is, I've trained both sports and MMA is way more harder. We are talking about training Strking, Wrestling and BJJ and doing Strength & Conditioning on top of that. I trained boxing when I was younger and over weight weighing 200 lbs, I never felt like I was going to pass out, yes I was tired and out of breath but not drained. First day I trained MMA I felt like I was going to vomit at the end of the session and this is when I was in shape running every morning and I weighed 147 lbs.

Boxing is harder bc it requires a mastery of a limited skill repertoire in a small square circle whereas in mma you have a broader repertoire of tools and don't need to be an expert in any of those skillsets to be a champion..just need to be proficient enough in a particular skill and deploying the right strategy/tactics over your opponent. The overall speed explosivenss and endurance required in boxing is 2nd to none. Wrestling may be more taxing on body muscle endurance wise but still far less dangerous without having to worry about getting cracked in the head w/ blows to head liver ribs etc.

Both sides are hard but I don't think a boxer can grasp learning to dodge kicks because they have programmed them selves to deep into focusing on hands I think by instinct they would slip up and catch a kick to the legs body or head easy

While it's true that pro boxers ability to throw tight punches with out coming out of there stance while staying protected, there are so many other facets to a fight than punching and not being punched. Rogers opinion is based on being an expert with one thing and having zero experience in the others. You need to realize there might be less rounds but they are longer and mma fighters 85% of the time exert more energy within that time then a boxer does. Is it easier to get into the mma of course because you have so many fighting styles to choose from and master is it easier then boxing no I don't think so. Boxing is just one form or discipline of fighting. It's just one style.. MMA has wrestling; boxing, jitzu, karate, mui tay. Or simply; striking, wrestling, jujitsu. To say boxing is harder is complete ignorence and prejudice. This is why you have all these boxers now wanting to make name and bank off MMA fighters, making them compete in a boxing match.. its ludicrous on its face MMA boxing is different altogether, because the other striking disciplines and threat of take down... please if your a boxer with name and want real respect from sports world. Stop using jake Paul as your hero and tough guy. Hes not. He picked Ben askren to fight for a reason.. Please step into a fight on 90 days notice with a top 20 MMA fighter and then beat chest.. askren was retired had very little boxing skill. He was giving 90 days.. please return the man up skills. Lee SOG I agree, I seen this dude who was a security guard at a college on a UFC ppv as a headliner. That guy had a bunch of ko's with no losses. A guy like that can't even be a tomato can in boxing. He'd get starched by tomato cans. An mma fighter with 18 black belts can get beaten by a guy who wrestled in high school, that's ridiculous. Those belts don't mean jack unless someone hits you the way you've been trained, or else those guys would never lose. Chuck Liddell was starching all these high level martial artists with less than amateur striking skills. Someone I know told me he would beat boxers, because boxing was his specialty. I was thinking what do you think a boxer's specialty is. Didn't argue with them because it would've been useless. MMA fighting is skilled, but you can be decent without 1 superior skill. In boxing the journeyman were golden glove champs. It's a more refined skill set. Very difficult to master. If it wasn't, mma fighters would be making millions destroying boxers, instead of having cauliflower ear and fighting for thousands, and losing to security guards and wrestlers, and guys who just took up the sport because life wasn't working out..
