Great interviewing here: 1.Stephen's done his homework, read the book. 2.He's thought up questions that open the door to great stories. 3.He lets the silence hang as Springsteen speaks, doesn't try to fill it in with more questions. Really rare these days. Loving it.

and Steven's great wit that makes the interview feel like he's not someone who can only follow a script ...I love the joke about Bruce possibly expecting Patti would be the first woman in history to not experience pain at childbirth.. the laughter... and how the topic shows what a compassionate person Bruce can be.. his priorities are on-point..

my problem with Colbert is that he doesn't respond to stories unless he comes up with something. So someone can go for like 4 minutes on something and he'll say "that's nice." That sounds like he's not even paying attention.

    • @patriciajones4206
      @patriciajones4206 6 лет назад +3

I think it is just the opposite. I think he doesn't respond because he is really taking in what is being said, and maybe processsing it. Musicians are often very deep , and so I think he lets it be what it is, and doesn't have to fill that space just to fill it.

He IS,, but don't forget Michael Jackson for example Also came from nothing, bad father/youth and he also had a lot of mental issues. MJ also wrote his songs himself and was only that happy on stage. As Bruce said, making music was the best drug. Later, MJ took real drugs and died.
The best musicians had/have mental issues and because of making music they could express themselves, calm themselves and write the best songs etc

@@fntime He can't hold a woman? Tell me more............
Bruce is a good guy, period. Look him in the eyes and you can see that. Eyes are the mirror of the soul.
A kid and later man. who had and has to deal with mental illness, that's very hard. For their loved ones it's sometimes very hard to live with. They don't understand themselves sometimes. Why they're feeling what they're feeling. But ppl who suffer a whatever mental illness DO love their loved ones and will do anything for them. How I've heard Bruce talk about his dad, his childhood and how he understood his dad years years later. His dad loved him, loved his songs about him the most and still never told his son Bruce that. I bet that Bruce didn't do that to HIS family because he knows how that feels. He's very open about his depressions, his childhood. I bet he told his wife and back then, young kids and bandmembers why he's sad or angry or whatever and........ he is a perfectionist. Fans pay money to watch and hear them play so give the fans all you've got. Bruce is a very nice, friendly and good guy, a very good soul, has a huge heart. Period.

Anyone know what year this interview was ? Really enjoyable to listen to & insightful....as Bruce opens up a door to us
to give us a look at his own insights & experiences. And yes, Colbert, the interviewer, leads him skillfully & respectfully there with his questions & without interruption. Poignant recounting by Bruce & nice job by Colbert to draw that out of him. Thumbs up to both of them & to giving us a nice interview !

Patricia Moreno it was 3 years ago a day before his 67th birthday on September 23, 2016. He was promoting his autobiography which I enjoyed. If you’re a reader I’d also recommend reading Clarence’s book, “Big Man and Tall Tales” co-written with Don Reo and Keith Richards book “Life”. Keith’s book is funny, lucid, humble, informative,clear-eyed and heartfelt.

Afaf Benhara Almost every interview tends to be thought provoking. He's just an intrinsic individual who will give you a genuine answer rather than a short and sweet one. Aside from his music (which I love), that has always been my favorite thing about Bruce. He knows his history, he knows he's made mistakes (emotional ones) and he'll share those stories whenever asked about it.

That line has always spoke volumes to me since first hearing after buying 'Born in the U.S.A' album, summer '85. So very true for, very sadly, fat too many, growing and aspiring minds done and dulled down by oh so many mediocre (at most) senior (high) school ... 'teachers' merely 'teaching by rote ... and very little else. Often disparaging and always demotivating ... if only we knew back then ('70's in the U.K. for myself) that they oh so fully deserved to be called out for their annually served 'crimes against the future'. Fuckwits and crap-at-their- jobs types who got away with it for decades.
I don't know who to attribute the following quote to - perhaps if it were to be Mr. Springsteen, that would be so apt and also so correct, whomever said it first, well God bless you anyway . . . '' Three chords ... And the TRUTH "

    • @paradisepipeco

@@donaldcook3112 A thoughtful reply indeed. Dylan has created so many one liners it is futile I would think to try and catalog them. Paul Simon, Bruce . . . Then there is Bob Segar, with only a very few, but of equal depth. _"I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then."_ A whole lot of _"Badlands"_ or _"Born to Run"_ and a lot more by Bruce. _"He not busy being born is busy dying"_ by Zimmy (Dylan). Simon said _"The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls."_ You take your wisdom where you find it. After all, to a rat, a bat is an angel.
_"Three Chords and the Truth"_ came from a far more obscure name, but we know his tunes. Harlan Howard wrote Patsy's _"I Called For Pizzas"_ and countless other country standards like _"The Beer's in the Icebox"._ The quote goes back to the fifties, and it is what they say in Music City where songwriters compete as to what it takes to write a good song. Of course in Nashville, they don't always walk that walk, but sweet sassy molassy, it ain't a perfect world, now, is it, Buckaroo.
_Okay, I lied._ Harlan''s titles spoofed above were actually Patsy Cline's _"I Fall to Pieces"_ and the old standard _"The Key's in the Mailbox"._ So sue me, g'wan, I dare ya; but you better get a fast horse if you wanna catch me.

You should have been in the 'Green Room" they all fucked each other until they sobered up. He's a degenerate's degenerates'.His first wife said you was a 'fag'. He has a very small penis, that's what drives him and why the women in his life aren't loyal to him. By the way, have you ever 'fucked'him after a concert. That was the 'ritual'. That's why most the E Street Band left. He was used and abused and loved every moment.
