New Jersey people have very little knowledge about life. they fear a animal that rarely attacks humans? I live in Florida and we encounter way way way more wild animals and you don't see us complaining. we learn to live with gators and other wildlife. fatal attacks are extremely rare.
The bear attack didn't happen in a residential area... It occurred in the woods where some college student were hiking... Furthermore, it's been said that approximately 1 out every 1 million black bear encounters results in a fatality

The bear was trapped in an ienclosed area which may account for his behavior, The hiking area was fenced to keep out deer.
