Jason, I've been away from dmr for a while. Couldn't get my Retevis RT3S to do what I wanted it to do. I've bought the 878 with the green button, it's so much better to use! Anyone considering getting this radio I don't think it will disappoint! It's operating repeaters from indoors up to about 13 miles away. Excellent radio. I decided to get it off the back of your videos, and HRCC recommending one of the older AnyTone as a EDC radio. Thanks for the videos 👌👍
how is the "AT-D878UVII Plus" different than the "AT-D878UV"? I think BridgeCom had the manufacturer modify the model number so they can overcharge for it. HamRadioDeluxe sells the AT-D878UV for $209
Got the ham shack pack from Bridgecom, had just ordered it a couple of days before the Any Tone UV878II Plus was released. I appreciate your videos, thank you for your contribution to the community. A question for you regarding DMR radios, what functions do the Anytone D878UVII Plus radio have that the BTECH DMR 6x2 does not? It looks like the Anytone does Bluetooth but what about APRS capability differences?

Now, I can't realistically use DMR as most stations are analog. You in this video said, you don' t use analog with this radio. Yeah, Too bad that BridgeCom is the only support mechanism for this particular Chinese radio. BridgeCom personnel are just marketing experts. If you buy this radio from Amazon instead of directly from BridgeCom you can forget about live phone support or being able to submit a "ticket" for tech help. These radios are hell to program and get support for. You had better know what your doing as these radios are not for newbies.
Why would Bridgecom or any other company offer support for a product that you didn't purchase from them? Try buying a Yaesu radio at Gigaparts, then call HRO and ask for support - see if they help you. I have LOTS of How To Program videos on this channel. This radio isn't all that hard to program, honestly - you just have to get used to it.
@@HamRadio2 ACTUALLY... the Anytone radio I spoke of was PURCHASED from Bridgecom through THEIR (not someone else's) Amazon Store Front. (Do you own the patent on strawman arguments?) Bridgecom has excellent customer service - the reviews will back that up too. Who cares if they are marketing for Anytone? Someone needs to since Anytone is providing the Ham Radio community something that they want, and something that the Japanese companies refuse to do. I am researching first Analog/DMR Radio purchase. Currently looking at the Anytone AT-D878UV (not the UVII Plus or the plus) and the Alinco DJ-MD5TGP. What are your thoughts on the Anytone vs Alinco? Thanks RL
Do you have a recommendation about which code plug for this radio to select on DMR Texas to cover the Houston area? There are three different options and I am unsure which to use.
Question: Baofeng has dual watch, dual channel and in dual channel mode you can choose whether the 2nd channel is audible or silent. I cannot find a way to do this with the AT-878UVIII Plus. On the AT-578UVIII Pro it does it automatically but only displays the channel in VFO mode until you switch to channel B. Then it switches to channel mode and unmutes and channel mutes but still stays in channel mode. Am I missing a step?
Hi, is it possible to listen to two frequencies at a time (not sure how is this feature called)? And has anyone used it for paragliding, if so what's your thoughts? Thanks!
Hello KC5HWB I just bought the Plug and Play Package: AnyTone AT-D878UVII PLUS w/ SkyBridge Plus Dual Band Digital Hotspot and have made a few QSO's via the skybridge hooked up to my network at home. When I travel there seems not to be any repeaters using any DMR links so not able to use this radio while on the road. I see some digital links are listed but not sure about how to access them while away from the skybridge. At this point I don't feel comfortable with messing around with the programming as was set up by Bridgecom for fear of messing up the radio. I'd sure lie to use this great handheld mobile but is there a way to get it to access local repeaters here in the interior of Alaska? I live in North Pole, Alaska. Bridgecom University has a lot of info but since they already programmed this unit, I haven't spent much time watching their videos since it was already done for me.
I would be interested to know what the hardware difference is from uv878 plus & now this one. They are obviously almost identical. Can we not upgrade the 878 plus to the ii? Can't be much different
Not to discredit the radio, but could anyone compare the previous AT-D878UV plus to this one as to the analogue squelch? Has there been an improvement or is it still the same? By "the same", I mean a too tight squelch (even at step 1).
I'll see if BTECH makes a 6X2 v2.0 on this as well. With their constant firmware updates, the 6X2 has surpassed the 878 in just about every feature except Bluetooth. I'll really laugh if BTECH manages to add A-APRS receive to the 6X2 via firmware alone. I'm not worried about too much about DMR ID memory running out; that's what TalkerAlias is for.
You mean channel and contact memory? I assume that is what you mean... Yes the lower memory radios will work just fine but as the DMR Database grows, you won't be able to add any more contacts, once your memory cap is reached. Some people don't care about that - some do. Neither viewpoint is wrong. The later model with more memory is simply more future proof.
First of all thanks for all the videos you do. I’m wondering how this radio does on UHF and VHF. I want to get into DMR of course but I want to make sure I get a radio that does really good with the other bands also. I have a lot of UHF or VHF stuff that I do. I have Hurt some things locally that it doesn’t work that great on UHFVHF. Thanks again for any help!
Not sure the price it worth the small improvements. Staying with the previous 878. I can easily go to the Digital Contacts list and delete 100K of people I'll never use. And damn man....focus.
Anyone know how I can purchase this cool radio? I reside in the Philippines and am unable and unwilling to fork out 200 US Dollars in addition to the normal cost for shipping and tax to buy it from the usual source.
I got one with the Skygate Plus. My question is, Can this radio monitor two channels at once? Actually receive transmissions from two channels . I have two channels displayed, but not sure it receives from both.
did they change the button since this video? mine is somewhere inbetween blue and green got it from bridgecom it says on the tag behind the batt that it is the atd878uvii plus.

I have How To Program videos for viewers that have already watched my "Intro to DMR" and "DMR 101" videos, and I say that in the beginning of most of them. Try taking responsibility for your own research and learning instead of wanting someone to spoon-feed you. This is what being a Ham Operator (and also a prepper, as your name implies) is all about.
When you program a digital channel, there is a function to receive, listen to all traffic on that frequency? (like a baofeng 1701)
Yes, it is called Monitor Mode.
I wish they would mac the software for Mac. Everyone doesnt have a Windows computer and a lot of people refuse to add windows on their Mac computer
Does it recieve cap+ ras? I heard it has more memory and that works... can you confirm?
Definitely waiting on more info for APRS before buying. I can't figure out if it does APR messaging.
It does not do messaging but the hardware is all there. Hopefully a future firmware upgrade will include it.
I am researching first Analog/DMR Radio purchase. Currently looking at the Anytone AT-D878UV (not the UVII Plus or the plus) and the Alinco DJ-MD5TGP. What are your thoughts on the Anytone vs Alinco? Thanks RL
Would be interested in that comparison too. Dou you know there is updated Alinco DJ-MD5X?
Do you have a recommendation about which code plug for this radio to select on DMR Texas to cover the Houston area? There are three different options and I am unsure which to use.
I would like some help, I updated mine and the menu was missing functions
Question:
Baofeng has dual watch, dual channel and in dual channel mode you can choose whether the 2nd channel is audible or silent.
Thanks for video does it feature full APRS?
It does full TX and RX. Not sure on sending texts, I am still testing.
Just purchased the $49 Bluetooth board to upgrade my current 878UV Plus to the II (adds the APRS Rx). Cheaper than buying the new one!
Link?
Hi, is it possible to listen to two frequencies at a time (not sure how is this feature called)?
And has anyone used it for paragliding, if so what's your thoughts?
Thanks!
Jason Just joined Patreon for supporting you de N6KV
Thanks!
With BT, could this radio be used as a hotspot with another DNR radio? That would be a great if it did. Multible capibility.
No, I don't think so.
Rats...
Still thinking of getting one. Does it use the dame batteries as the older model?
What happens when the contact list exceeds what your radio will load? DO you just decide who you are not interested in?
Yep, that's it
I know little about these but being digital can I listen to ems chat. I understand they use digital. thank you
It depends on what kind of digital they're using and if they publish their specific settings
Does their software work on a MAC? Or just windoze?
So where did you get your hat from?
I would be interested to know what the hardware difference is from uv878 plus & now this one. They are obviously almost identical. Can we not upgrade the 878 plus to the ii? Can't be much different
I'd guess you are correct
I would like to see a backpack, as in the radio pouch of an assault pack or Medum rucksack, version of the mobile version.
Silly question, is this manufactered in China?
Yes
Is this water proof?
Not to discredit the radio, but could anyone compare the previous AT-D878UV plus to this one as to the analogue squelch? Has there been an improvement or is it still the same? By "the same", I mean a too tight squelch (even at step 1).
Is this radio still worth it if you don't want to use the dmr function for a while?
no, get a 20 dollar baofeng
What is APRS ?
Will these do a vfo scan and mdc1200?
I'll see if BTECH makes a 6X2 v2.0 on this as well. With their constant firmware updates, the 6X2 has surpassed the 878 in just about every feature except Bluetooth.
I'll really laugh if BTECH manages to add A-APRS receive to the 6X2 via firmware alone. I'm not worried about too much about DMR ID memory running out; that's what TalkerAlias is for.
Serious question... why so much memory? Won't the radios with lower memory capabilities work as designed?
You mean channel and contact memory? I assume that is what you mean...
Yes the lower memory radios will work just fine but as the DMR Database grows, you won't be able to add any more contacts, once your memory cap is reached. Some people don't care about that - some do. Neither viewpoint is wrong.
The later model with more memory is simply more future proof.
How about that mysterious HT52?
First of all thanks for all the videos you do. I’m wondering how this radio does on UHF and VHF. I want to get into DMR of course but I want to make sure I get a radio that does really good with the other bands also. I have a lot of UHF or VHF stuff that I do. I have Hurt some things locally that it doesn’t work that great on UHFVHF. Thanks again for any help!
Not sure the price it worth the small improvements. Staying with the previous 878. I can easily go to the Digital Contacts list and delete 100K of people I'll never use. And damn man....focus.
This should be a firmware upgrade IMO and not a price upgrade. I am still not sure I even like the one I have yet
That's called Dual Receive. And no, I don't think it will do that, but I will test it
Trying to figure out the APRS feature
Me too
More interestingly for me, what bands do they cover?
This one is 2M and 70cm
Will they have a new version soon?
Don't know
did they change the button since this video? mine is somewhere inbetween blue and green got it from bridgecom it says on the tag behind the batt that it is the atd878uvii plus.
Just got mine along with the Skygate hot spot. Looking forward to getting everything hooked up and getting into this DMR stuff.
So our fire department just had to switch to DMR radios from analog well this radio work I don’t feel like paying $800-$1000 for a Motorola Motobro. Or whatever it’s called. We’re still using UHF frequencies
Surprised your fire department doesn't issue you a radio. But assuming that they'll provide you with programming info, yes this should work
I am looking for a handheld and mobile that will each let me use both DMR and Analog, both as unlockable as possible. Trying to carry the minimum amount of equipment with the maximum amount of flexibility. I would appreciate your input. Thanks
The Anytone D578 programmed in Commercial mode for Part 90 operation
I ended up stepping up to the Anytone AT-D878UVII Plus, now I just have to learn how to use it. So very different then my KG-Q10H, which I love.@@HamRadio2
Arghhh Jason, just have to send more $$! Geat video!
Lol
Is there an antenna upgrade for this Radio?
you can put any antenna you want on this radio.
I was the Diamond 77 was not sure it would be good for DMR
