Actually incredible!! I had seen the divide between UK and Parisian 60s fashion but idk why it didnt click in my head until now that the reason theres such distinct kinds of 60s fashion because theyre from different places!!! I had done a 60s themed shoot with my bestie on film a while ago and we ABSOLUTELY leaned more Paris 60s, cig prop, Parisian beehive and everything!
Pop, pop, pop music New York, London, Paris, Munich Everybody talk about pop music -- a song from 1979 (Pop Muzik) - If you don't know it, don't check into it. It wasn't very good but it does convey the idea of music and fashion combining. Paris was unique. The styles appeared in a lot of movies at the time. Nice to see it put into context. Great background material, Emma.
Ohhhhhh I love this one 60s French fashion is is amazing and Brigette is gorgeous as is her style❤. Any chance of 60s/70s Swedish fashion like Britt Ekland and ABBA? Thanks for the great content.
Such a wonderful decade for fashion and music which inspired together in a way England and Paris where the places of fashion in the decade were everything was streamlined and popish where people can express themselves in the fashion
Thank you for this great in-depth look at 1960s Parisian & French Fashion! Could I gently give you one pronunciation tip? I got confused when you talked about 'polished' because it sounded like you were talking about the polish people (it took me a little while to figure out my mistake 😅). It's because you missed your pronunciation 😊 In this video you're saying 'polished' [poow-lished] like you say 'smoking' [smoow-king], so with a long 'oow'. It's actually pronounced 'polished' [poh-lished] like you say 'modern' [moh-dern], a short 'oh'.
Thank you so much for letting me know! I’m always trying to improve my English, so it means a lot that you got into detail with the pronunciation and explained it to me 💌
Emma, I’m SO glad I discovered your wonderful channel - as a history and fashion lover myself (particularly the 60s!) I really appreciate all the hard work and detail you put into these video’s 😊
OMG thanks for this I just absolutely love 60s fashion so much, french or else but I'm also very biased cause I know vintage fashion from being french and thrifting there. And also thanks to my grand mother : me and my family never had money but she was such a good seamstress I got a lot of dresses from her. I try to get the skills to be self sufficient with this like her, also in an "autonomous" (?) political sense. Anyways, 60-70s : such good silhouettes for a pear body shape, plus so comfortable and playful. Very easy to mix and match with era or contemporary pieces too. Just so good.
A lot of French fashion was actually imported from England in this time because of wartime recovery. Alain Delon exported a lot of WASP English fashion to France, which is why a lot of so-called French style is actually English and masculine-leaning like button down shirts and chino trousers, later appropriations 'across the channel' including some Royal Academy of Ballet type stuff like headbands and ballet flat shoes. This is why women called French girl chic were actually English! e.g. Jane Birkin.
Smoking isnt aesthetic, liberating, it is not sexy, it is not fashion! Very unhealthy and lots of people have addictions, get lung cancer, lose excessive weight, lose teeth ect.. Other than that this is very interesting and ive been wanting to learn more about 60s fashion in france lately so this is the perfect video.
I totally understand where you’re coming from. But I never said that smoking was good for anyone. Of course it isn’t. It will kill you eventually and I would assume the dad is common knowledge. But if we talk about things that make the fringe aesthetics in the 1960s so recognizable smoking was definitely a part of it. But I’m gonna take a note from your comment for the next time and make it clear that the video that I am not pro smoking.
Fashion can mean a lot of things not just by clothing or accessories yes, smoking isn’t fashion technically but it is a trend infamously made from then to now. You can think what you want about it, it is bad yes! However it is a “trend” like how vape is now and so it is fashion- also meaning fashion something mad famous by the certain time.
I really do like your videos, I just wish you wouldn't overuse the word "effortless". Because most of the time there was a lot of effort put into those looks, even if some of them look simple. Effortless really means you just roll out of bed, don't bother with combing your hair or putting on make up and throw on whatever you can grab first, no matter if it's clean or matching. It's not chic. Calling a look "effortless" kind of diminishes all the thought and care somebody put into their appearance. It's not that much of a compliment, really. OK, I will step off my soap box now because I otherwise really enjoy your work and applaud all the research you do, especially since I'm a big fan of 1960s fashion myself.
Hmm... Yeah I don't completely understand why people use that word to describe beautiful outfits. It's a bit confusing, but English is just weird like that

I also loved Romy Schneider's french style during the 60s. We got a few glimpses of her when you showed snippets of "La Piscine".
Been watching for years Emma and look forward to your post each time. Thank you for all you do. ❤

Ye but in the 50s and 60s they thought smoking was healthy and even smoked in hospitals LOL
