American junkyards no longer stack cars like that anymore, they no longer stack one cat on top of another car anymore. But they use to when I was still in high school in the 80s.
In Cali they put cars on top of 4 concrete polls or metal rods to make it easier and safer for people who are getting parts to get them without having to bring jacks and stands.
What's funny is in the southern US they also use forklifts to move cars and trucks at pick n pulls. My husband went to get a new rear end for his truck, they lifted the truck he was getting it from and ended up dropping the truck on the rear end and destroyed it. He was very very upset.
