I did not see these until now. There awesome. My dad just retired Friday from the St Thomas Transit after 46 yrs and a good number of those yrs were behind the wheel of one of these.
Another superb bit of craftsmanship from Rapido. My plea is that the next Rapido North American bus project should be the beloved Can Car T-44 trolleycoach. The Brill-designed, Fort William-built T-44s had long lives in Halifax, Toronto, Vancouver and other cities and, of course, their ACF-built counterparts served many American cities. I'm sure a Rapido HO T-44 model would be a winner.
I recall when Rapido Trains showed a picture of their upcoming New Model fishbowl bus and I stared at that for a long time. This was on farcebook and I naturally had to see more. I was getting primed to get one but they were not yet available. I also did not have a credit card. I had no idea on how to buy one. Then this video came and now I am desperate. I got to have one. I contacted a dealer from the nearest state and made arrangements. I got 3 since you were not given the option to buy just one. Now I had to have more. My Corgis and Buschs are stored and my Rapido Trains buses are stacked next to my monitor because I have no room to display them. I got Caprices and Impalas inside the bus display cases with buses still inside. They actually look good that way. I have no Idea where my Freuhauf trailers will go.
watching a video on high end model transit busses is making me feel old XD I use to have to ride the old bay street trolley busses every day to school back in the 80's
I'm afraid to order one... i collect things, and Newlooks are probably my favorite vehicle..i already have 3 models that arnt really all that great..if i start with this i'll end up with hundreds!
Awesome model. Great details, like the rotating wheels, and full interior decoration! I will try to get one soon! Would be nice to see a model of Pullman Standard trolleybus, this kind of model is very famous here in Chile, in the Valparaiso trolleybus system. Best regards!
You're clearly a freak - but buddy, you're definitely my kind of freak! Bought my first real bus last year .. going to be a while before I get her right though. In the interim .. just placed my order this afternoon with you. I can hardly wait! Trying to get a "feel" for the size .. if it's doable, I'm going to have my bus encapsulated in acrylic as a key fob for my real bus :D. Stylin'. I used to go to this silverback bar in Burlington .. all the clowns at the bar with Ferrari and Lambo key fobs conspicuously displayed tough the parking lot was full of Pontaics. At least I'll be the real deal.
@@rapidotrains Well size does matter they say! Btw, Love the TTC cap. When I was a wee lad, c. 1974, the driver of the Runnymede line (South past Rennie terrace .. not certain where it went after that) would let me stand at the front of his GM TDH, wear his cap, and operate the door lever! Probably the origin of my coach fetish. Hope to visit your shop one day. Jim.
You know there would be a market for this as a 1/25 scale kit. Don't scoff! Revell released a London double decker in 1/24 scale and I believe it sold well.
How about one in (“O”) gauge as well as (“N”) & (“Z”) ???? And for once in yawls life can you make one for the south like maybe, Miami, or Dade County ????? Galveston, Texas ! West Palm Beach, or Florida city, Key Largo, Marathon Key, and Key West round-trip !!! Please !!!! 🌊🐺
rapidotrains The fishbowl buses were the ones that I remember riding in when I was kid up until we left the state of Florida when I was 15 ! Then I went for my drivers license ! (Some of the ideas that I gave you are real places I’ve seen them, it’s basically a trolley system that uses a bus that looks like a trolley ! And as far West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, “round trip” from “Miami international airport to Key West” and ‘back’ ! That would solve that problem ! Now here’s your ticket coming back into the south and the state of Texas, Houston, in particular had the fishbowl buses so did San Antonio, and Dallas, and Fort Worth, and San Antonio was the only city in Texas that not only had fishbowl’s but they have a double Dekker bus too boot !!!!!!! ! 🌊🐺
I realize you're primarily a model train company but I would love to see some O scale buses, they would even better exhibit the detail you put into them. Also it'd be nice if you did one-off designs (like, one model of a particular transit agency's bus for some dude) but *shrug*.
Superb work on this model. I am really impressed at the effort you've put into properly replicating the prototype. I spent many hours riding these buses during my teen years & even got really good at drawing them at one point. May I suggest the BC Transit paint scheme for your 2nd run? While it's partially selfish as I am from BC, I think that they could do well because that paint scheme was used for many years on ALL transit systems in BC. This includes Greater Vancouver & many smaller centres like Victoria, Kamloops, Kelowna, Prince George, Cranbrook, etc etc. If I remember correctly, all New Look buses that had double rear doors like your model had the big black bumpers while those with single rear doors had steel bumpers. I think there are still one or two of them kicking around at the bus garage in my hometown, which is just down the street from my mother's house. If I spot one in a conspicuous location, I can try to get photos for you or even ask them for permission to photograph one if you're interested.
Very nice as usual from Rapido . How about sacrificing some of that superbly detailed under-carriage and making room for a button battery enclosure version. I'm sure a version like this making the bus instantly movable on the layout without wires coming out of its head like "DAVROS" (see DOCTOR WHO or google ) would sell extrifically well !
Cool looking little bus! Once again, you guys at Rapido Trains outdid yourselves (and, for that matter, the entire model railroading industry)! Will you ever produce these exquisite little motor coaches in N scale? -from Tom Pilling
Yes but to turn the vehicle, you need to rotate the axles. So how much effort. Lets say you let the bus free roll, will the axles suddenly make the bus turn left or right. That is what I am asking.
You mention the roof hatch but those only showed up after a certain year, at least on MUCTC buses (and I don't recall the year). I note that your 1:1 Fishbowl has the previous side emergency exit (I think they were mutually exclusive - buses had one or the other). I don't care because I want the MUCTC version with the roof hatch, but someone will gripe. :-D Will the MUCTC version only be available from the STM or through other channels? Also, will there be a set of route stickers for that version as well? If you do a sheet of stickers for Montreal, make sure you have one that shows the curtain rolled half way between two actual routes. You know, to indicate that the bus is out of service and the operator didn't want to crank it all the way to "Garage".
Unfortunately no. Our models are very, very detailed and we have to tell people they are 14+. However, my kids have been using Rapido products from a young age as they were taught how to handle them with care. -Jason
will it come to Edmonton if so when and were I have checked the train store that we have here no they do not carry you buses or any thing you have and I do not think they would just how they don't want to bring any thing in what you need or what to buy yes I have asked them many time
At first Rapido didn't use a GM logo due to not having permission from GM. However in a past email the Rapido did state the buses will come with a GM logo as Nova Bus now has the rights to these buses(not GM) and gave permission to use the logos and the buses do not carry a current GM trademarked logo.
Not exactly. We did speak to GM about using their logo, and they were happy to allow us to use it for a fee. This would add about $5-$8 to the retail price. So we have decided to leave it off. It is easy for you to add a GM logo with home-made decals.
Sorry if i spread any false info. I believe i did read an email saying that Rapido did contact GM about using a logo and GM did not replay and it was found out that GM no longer had the rights to the bus. I know Nova Bus is the successor to GM and I think they have the rights to the buses design.
No apology needed. There are no trademark issues with making a model of a real thing, so the shape of the bus is no problem. There can be trademark issues with reproducing a company logo.
I just love this model. just bought one from a guy in Ottawa on Ebay. so much joy...
We’re glad you like it! Thanks!
I did not see these until now. There awesome. My dad just retired Friday from the St Thomas Transit after 46 yrs and a good number of those yrs were behind the wheel of one of these.
I bought the Rapido Greyhound 1964 World's Fair New York bus. Can't wait for it to arrive. I'm really excited
BTW, I would love to see Rapido come out with some Cleveland, Ohio RTA or CTS buses (My hometown)
Jesus how the hell did you get this much detail into such a tiny scale! Can't wait for your British model in 1:72 to come out!

It would be neat, but very few people have trolley wires on their model railroads!
Adding my vote for the T44. (This is a democracy, right?) Hell, I'll put up some damn wires for that!
I remember when My city Toronto use to have these buses. Unfortunately, they were retired in 2011.

Ordered. Waiting. Excited.
Looks awesome. I got an FL9! Today's my birthday so I'll be unboxing it this afternoon!!!
Have you tried making one in GO transit livery?
can you pop the shell off to out figures inside it?
It is very, very easy to pop off the shell.
watching a video on high end model transit busses is making me feel old XD I use to have to ride the old bay street trolley busses every day to school back in the 80's
maybe you could do the paint scheme of your real bus as a paint scheme option for the TDH-5303 in HO scale.
That is indeed the plan!

There are custom builders out there who can do one-off designs. They do not lend themselves to mass production, however.
I remember these buses in green in Brooklyn NY 1960s
Can you guys do a 1/24 scale of this model as well, please?
can people be added to the inside? if so, bottom or top come off?

Jason!!! Are you trying to get me hooked onto a new hobby??? LOL.
No NYCTA (New York City Transit Authority) buses?
They are planned for the next release. Stay tuned: www.rapidotrains.com/signup
Question: Is it possible to pop the chassis and put a driver and a dozen or so passengers...? I know this is 2.5 yrs down the road... get it...?
Very, very easy.
That is so cool I want that

An outstanding model to be sure. Would be nice to see an N scale version though.... any chance of one in the future?
Definitely N scale in the plans.
AAAAaaahhh!!! Gotta' get me one of them! Looks great! You didn't tell Janet yet, did you? Cheers, Dan

We offer the buses in generic colors and in transit colors. Though we haven't done San Diego yet...
