    Sir its a nice explanation,,, Sir, just imagine we need 5o kvar for power factor correction to .95pf. if we placed 100kvar capacitor insted of 50kvar what will happn??

    • @RaviKumarGaurav
      @RaviKumarGaurav  8 лет назад

      It will improve power factor (close to unity and balance kVAr may account for excess reactive power in the system).

    • @vavachi0000
      @vavachi0000 8 лет назад

      there is a digestion problem.. how can we explain if there we plAced 100kvar capacitor insted of 50kvar,,, power factor nly keep near one... if it happen why should we need selection criteria ?? just we need a random selection only... and how the exess kvar affect on the system.

    • @RaviKumarGaurav
      @RaviKumarGaurav  8 лет назад

      you have to calculate the kVAr requirement based upon your present and desired power factor. You may refer BEE - CEA book on Electrical system, it has the calculations and table (beeindia.gov.in/sites/default/files/3Ch1.pdf).

    hi , can you define what is reactive power ? i can understand that the power which we consume or utilize is real power of course we pay electricity bill for real power (kwh) .

  • @rdt8739
    @rdt8739 7 лет назад

    we can also use condensers to supply reactive power

    how do we know the reactive power and the true power in our house , so that we eliminate the reactive power,

    • @tedlahm5740
      @tedlahm5740 4 года назад

      Have reason to believe the power company uses a power factor of 80% when
      selecting the SIZE of the step down transformer to serve your and your neighbors house. Obviously they can not measure each and every residents,
      so this is a compromise. Also factored (ha ha) into the bill that you are charged.

    I want to ask how the capacitor then use to improve the pf

    • @RaviKumarGaurav
      @RaviKumarGaurav  8 лет назад

      +badri koli ; it is source for reactive power (kVAr) required in the system. It is highlighted in the video.

    • @badrikoli2306
      @badrikoli2306 8 лет назад +1

      but in industries cp bank are use to maintain the pf (0.95 to 0.99) and for this they get reward from govn. on their elect. bill

    • @RaviKumarGaurav
      @RaviKumarGaurav  8 лет назад

      +badri koli yes! by connecting capacitor banks, we supply reactive power (kVAr) needed by the system and hence the kVA from the grid is utilized towards kW. This improves the PF close to unity; (kVA^2)=(kW^2)+(kVAr^2). Hope I have answered your query.

    Sir , i have a problem in maintaining the pf in my company . my total load is 23 hp , i have added 20 kvar capacitor of 8,12. Last month my pf was .610 , after adding there is minimal improvement in a day if i run my company it increases by 3 and by night it falls 5 points . helpme i paid a penalty of 18000 last bimonthly bill.40 days since adding capacitor now my reading stands . 704

    KW and KVAR are not additive to calculate KVA. They "add up" in a Pythagorean theorem combination, not directly with arithmetic.
