I was a volunteer with the IG Rescue in the state where I live. My vet called me one day because they had an owner who wanted to euthanize a gorgeous black 5 yr old Iggy because they were tired of cleaning up the urine! They did not bother to let him out frequently enough. I ran there to get that poor guy. He did not deserve the horrible treatment he received because those stupid people didn't do their research. Happy to report that little guy got adopted and the new owners had NO problem with him. Yay for the rescues who take time to find the perfect owners! I love Nello...not too skinny at all❤
So glad to hear this story has a happy ending. And thank you so much 😊
You rock!!!!!!
Our iggys are both rescued … one we have use belly band because he constantly marks
I really wish I knew of the housebreaking issues with IGs. Urinating in the house was a constant problem despite multiple, long walks. I loved mine dearly, but through tears, I surrendered them to rescue. Beautiful, loving breed, but not a good fit for me.
i own an iggy myself and they are very precious. always down for constant cuddles, always has to be touching you and under the covers when they sleep. definition of a lap dog
Very true 😊
I really wish I knew of the housebreaking issues with IGs. Urinating in the house was a constant problem despite multiple, long walks and teaching them how to ring a bell to go outdoors. I loved mine dearly, but through tears, I surrendered them to rescue. I just couldn't do it anymore. That was 6 years ago. I still miss them. Beautiful, loving breed, but not a good fit for me.
I’m finally getting one in a month!!! Your videos are very informative and helpful, thank you so much!!!
LOL #5 is so true! I call my iggy my E.T., because just like in the movie where Elliott and E.T. can feel each others’ sentiments and pain, so do my iggy and I. If I’m cold, he’s cold, if it’s hot out and start to sweat he starts to open his mouth and pant (which as you know iggys don’t do often), if I’m congested because of the humidity, so is my iggy! My husband laughs at us and agrees he’s my E.T.
Love this comment, so true! It‘s the same for Nello and I. What a funny coincidence that Italian Greyhounds sometimes look like E.T. too 😋
So true
Oh my gosh. The way my one boy flies around I’m surprised he hasn’t broken his neck. My only issue with him is housebreaking. They are definitely needy and DEMANDING! They whine in their sleep for goodness sake. They sit on their soap box and complain that dinner’s not ready. They take their toys out when they need to pee and leave them out there. My yard looks like I have a toy garden. But I wanted a Velcro dog and boy did I get what I wished for. You do need to do research no matter what breed. So many of these angels get handed over to shelters or rescue organizations because people had no idea what they were getting. So sad. They’re so lovely. My boys are adopted.
We love your pups. Thank you for sharing your life with us!!!!
I can't agree more with all of those, and I'm sooo glad that I chose this breed of amazing beauties🥰🐕💕💕💕
We just lost our Italian Greyhound Maddie to cancer at age 12. It was devastating and we come back from doing a trip to the store I expect to see her waiting at the door and she’s not there. We’re getting another Italian Greyhound this weekend to fill the void. He’s the same color of yours but has white also. 4 months old.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing them is devastating, they are like family members. Hopefully the new pup will be able to cheer you up! Big hug from Nello to you ❤️
We lost ours and we are heartbroken 😢
You are so right about these things. Iggies are special!
I ha a beautiful Italian greyhound he just past away we had him 16 years
He was very good slept with us because they like to Borrow. But they can have eye problems our boy went blind in one eye😢 but otherwise he was fine and that happened around 13 years old.
I would love another one this time a rescue.❤
Thank you. I love you both. Watching your videos is so soothing.
I've had 2,They are so loving and precious. Just had to put mine down. Miss him terribly
Have my Iggy 13 years. Was abandoned as a puppy. Great dogs. Very loving and need companionship. Always want to be around us.
I love my IGs...I have 6 of them. They are so sweet. One is pregnant too, I'm so excited ❤❤❤

Great video :) You made some really important points.
Thank you for your comment 🥰
All of these are so accurate, but the “You will be constantly worried about them” resonated with me big time! Non-iggy owners have no idea how fragile they are!! I was raised with larger breeds and got an iggy a little over a year ago and my goodness.. things you never even thought about stress you out. He is so worth it though. The silliest, most personable snuggle bug ever!! But boy do I have nightmares about him most days a week!!! I would love to see what games you play with your iggy. Mine has been a little stir crazy lately (maybe he’s reaching his terrible twos) and I’ve been trying to find some brain games or activities to do with him to help with some of his destructive energy
I guess it‘s pretty normal - and just like you said they are so worth it. 💕
To be honest, we don‘t play a lot of games other than playing with his plush toys and sometimes I hide treats and make him search them. Long walks off leash and zoomies with other dogs is what has always worn him out. But I will see if I can make a more detailed video on that. Thank you for your feedback 😊
This is very similar to dachshunds; doxie spines are long and fragile. Many have issues, especially if allowed to sit up on their butts and jump and run up and down stairs a lot. Dachshunds, too, are very emotionally attached to their humans. Definitely see similarities between breeds (including being small, adorable, and hilarious!)
@@WynneL I love dachshunds too, they are super cute. But they can be very stubborn right? That‘s something you won‘t normally find in Iggies
Great video we have several Italians ... You covered it well
Thank you, Jeff! ☺️
The "too skinny" thing made me smile. Try walking a Great Dane without hearing at least one person say "is that a dog or a horse!" or my personal favorite "you could put a saddle on that thing!".
After the first hundred or so times it started to legitimately made me laugh...because every one of these people thought their joke was original 😂
2:48 not only that. A lot of people just completely misunderstand sidehound characteristics. For example when I walked our dog last week (he’s a 2 year old Galgo-Mix) we met a kind old lady who said as we were leaving „oh he puts his ears back, he probably is mad/doesn’t like me“.
Sidehounds always fold their ears back, it’s normal! Grr!😬
It's the owner who knows his dog best 🥰
Sighthounds
@@jessicali8594 Amen! Don't talk about a group with pretend authority if you don't even know the same!!! They hunt by sight. Thus, sighthounds.
Used to have 3 IGs ( well, they had me!) and these are all true! Don't be so concerned about delicate little bones - they are actually not that "fragile" after they're grown.
I had 3 girls. Greatest dogs. I'd love to have/serve many many more.
Life is too short to know all the dogs...
Can you do a video about dog purses or bags? im getting a iggy and want to socialize it without people fully noticing him so he can just get used to different surroundings. Thanks!
Thank you for your comment Melinda. We will see what we can do 🥰
I dont have an Italian grey hound i have two Staffies though and I worry constantly i assume its like having a child but slightly less dramatic/worrying and there are alot of dogs that look like nello in my area idk if they’re Italian grey hounds but i know that they are adorable and look pretty healthy too! So thats good
(Also i love the intro i keep forgetting to say)
I guess it’s normal - no matter what kind of dog you have. Just like you said, it‘s like having a child and we love them so much!
Thank you so much for your feedback on the intro ❤️
I completely agree with you. There are so many other types of dogs without so many health problems and expenses. Sometimes I think we as a society, should be more focused on getting mutts, or dogs who don’t have so many problems. Dogs with compromised respiratory systems because they’ve been bred to have very short noses, dogs who can’t give birth unassisted, etc. are not really healthy dogs.
Dogs have become expensive, too. Just to adopt one from the SPCA costs at least $150. in Canada, which means lots of kids from poor families are growing up without mans best friend.
That‘s true - it‘s horrible to see what humans have done to some breeds. But in my opinion responsible breeding is a different story 🐾
„and any other dog“😅 Schönes und wichtiges Video! Man unterschätzt oftmals die Anhänglichkeit. Wie du sagst, was wirklich schön ist, kann auch ganz schnell nervig werden. Aber am Ende kann man sie nur lieben🥰
Haha ja sonst kommen doch gleich die Hater daher 😜 Aber streng genommen gilt das ja sogar für jedes Tier 😊 Vielen Dank dir für deinen Kommentar!
thank you for this video .. its very helpful
You are very welcome! And thank you for your feedback 😊
I don't have a pet but I feel good when I see nello❤❤A little cute baby seal❤😘
That makes me very happy to hear ❤️🦭
To the right owner....Iggies do make their owners very happy and make them feel happy
@@rethavoges9378 absolutely! They are a gift from heaven 🤍
This sounds like all the owner's problem, not the dog's problem.
I rescued my IG when he was 9 without knowing too much about the breed. No joke about the winter wardrobe (and since I live in Canada, a fall and spring wardrobe). If someone had told me I would be shovelling a path through the snow in my backyard so he could take care of business...I would have laughed in their face. But, here we are! Lol. Oh, and the teeth brushing DAILY. My guy came with horrendous teeth and the more I read, these little guys can have awful teeth problems due to mouth shape and genetics. After the cost of fixing his teeth once was more than enough, I now brush his teeth every night. Prevention is so much cheaper.
„If someone had told me I would be shoveling a path…“ 😂😂😂 oh I can picture any IG owner doing that! And you are so right about the teeth cleaning! We brush Nello‘s teeth too.
And I thought I was only one who shoveled paths in snow! For my whippet.
Has your Iggy howled much? We were walking our ‘bubbles’ the other day and stopped for a picnic.
One family walked by us - no problem
Another family walked by us and she became almost protective, howling and growling (in the cute iggy way ofc)
Not sure why she singled out this one family but she was clearly alert to them shall we say.
Kinda clueless on why, if you onow and can suss that one i’d be keen to hear :)
Great video! How about flying with your Italian greyhound? That's one thing that concerns me a lot and makes me unsure about adopting one. :(
Thanks for the feedback! We've never flown with Nello but we know of many Iggies who have been on the plane (in the cabin) for short-distance flights. If they are used to it, it shouldn't be a problem but it's probably best to find a good dog sitter :)
I really want to get an Italian greyhound, but I’m worried that it might break it’s bones because they are so delicate! Have you had any trouble with that, or do you have any further information- I’m worried about it walking down the stairs or jumping off of sofas 😬. I’m also worried about potty training... as puppies how long do they take to be potty trained? I love your videos!! Hello is super cute 😍😍💗🥰
Thank you so much for your comment. Unfortunately those are the things many people struggle with - luckily we didn’t have any issues. Nello has never broken a leg (let’s hope it stays that way) and he‘s 100 % potty trained. But I watched him like a hawk when he was a puppy 😝 I made a video on potty training if you want to find out more: ruclips.net/video/sSUmy5W_0nk/видео.html
@@thelifeofnello that’s very good that Nello has had no problems with that! Yes, I’ve watched all your videos, I love your channel! Thank you for responding, I was so excited! Cant wait for your next video
I have one and that is exactly what happened. The first time she fell running down the stairs and broke her front paw then she broke it again jumping off the bed..... Got it reset twice... The vet literally said if she doesn't complain about it don't worry. She is so used to breaking it at this point she sits with the paw up even though it's not broken....still walks/runs on it though.
The first 18 months are when they are at their most vulnerable to leg breaks. There are basic training and restrictions that can help them prevent breaks during that time: number one being they shouldn’t be allowed at heights where they can jump off things. You want to let their bones grow with good food and plenty of exercise. After that unless they jump off a very high place (higher than a couch) they should be OK.
Not all IGs break their legs, but I do recommend you get pet insurance for the first 18 months if you can’t cover a broken leg (just in case)
@@RunENTell Be careful. If your Iggy keeps breaking bones it could mean cancer. I’m not saying it is just saying keep an eye on it.
That's funny how u said u are always worried about him..I had an Italian greyhound and he was the only dog I ever had that I constantly was taking to the doctor. One time I thought he swallowed an push pin and I swear he was acting sick so I rushed him to the ER and $600 later we walk out into the lobby and he was jumping around nothing wss wrong!!!
I have a dog the same but it has long hair. Several times a year I cut it off and then the Italian Greyhound appears when I thought it was a mongrel dog. Does anyone know if there is the variety of long hair that I have?
Maybe yours is a mini Afghan hound then 😜😬
@thelifeofnello No, it is just the same as yours when short hair. 😆
No long-haired Iggies. Ever. And no you don't have a miniature Afghan because there is no such thing.
Mine is an Italian Greyhound and Papillon mix. She has the build of a greyhound and the fur of a Papillon.
I’ve actually had people say look at that dog it’s anorexic it’s starving to death. Of course loud enough for me to hear. My dog is well fed well taken care of and my vet says she’s perfect weight. It might be beneficial for people to get to know the breeds they want to have an opinion on every dog carries a different amount of body fat.
Love your dogs. I feel the same as you!
Thank you 🥰
Hi I have a question , i am thinking about getting a iggy they are so cute, but im worried about my big dog that is old and really chill and lazy that the iggy might not get along with the big dog . The big dog is not the problem but i dont know if the iggy would like him. Say hi to nello from me :)
Where do you buy his gear/clothes
The beige dog is not an Italian greyhound he is a whippet
I am worried about my italian greyhound because he is so skinny
I don't think after I can ever have a different breed after having an Iggy.
I tell my sister her dog is so skinny, i dont mean it as an insult at all i hope she doesnt think im being rude :( i think its cute
I had no idea that Italian Greyhounds existed when I adopted our sweet girl. The Humane Society had labeled her a Chihuahua mix. As she became healthier, and her coat grew out, we realized that she was part Papillon, but her build was that of a small Greyhound. In fact, her build is just like your boy’s, no matter how much we feed her. Modern technology is a wonderful thing, and now we know she is a Papillon and Italian Greyhound mix. She has the best of both breeds. She has been a great fit for our family.
Saluki, the king of all dogs 😎
i know people that are also for not everyone but they are here on this planet ! hahah
i see them every day at work ... ;D and i dont know what kind of breed they are
haha relatable ;)
And yes everyone says he is skinny
I guess that’s what we have to accept as Iggy owners ☺️
unrelated: you look like Ren Stevens
Oh hell yeah
😊
Can I get a HELL YEAH?
Hell yeah
@@johnkoester7795 what's going on here, am I missing something? haha
@@thelifeofnello AAA said can I get a hell yeah
Iggys are like babies 😂
Hello, would you happen to know the similarities between Italian greyhounds and Yorkshire terrier‘s?
No I‘m sorry other than the size (obviously) I don’t know much about Yorkshire terriers
They are both clingy and super in love with their owner.
No Offence but i think this is just you especially the collar thing
everyone get here to 1k subs
Thank you so much for your support!
dont u have an the USA health insurance for dog like for people ?
no, we don't have health insurance for Nello but it may make sense to get it for an Iggy!

Is it your money or did a man earn it?
what’s that supposed to mean
@@wood2754 you know EXACTLY what it means
@@SocraticMethodGuy Do you like to go on the internet to shit on dog RUclipsrs?
@@wood2754 no. I love IGs, but why won't you answer the question while making unfounded accusations? maybe we'd be friends irl, ya know?
@@SocraticMethodGuy Well I find it a bit rude to ask ‘did you make the money or did a man earn it?’ I find that harsh cause some men say that to women and mean it in a rude way.
