Fun fact, I have gotten planes very cheap, for the same thing that your plane had wrong. The iron and chip breaker put together wrong. So many people not realizing how it goes and they assume the plane is junk.

What did you wipe on the handles before you sprayed the polyurethane?
That was an oil based stain I mixed together to get a red color.
