- This Return of the Jedi teaser trailer from 1982 features early looks at many of the film's most famous scenes, and is the first trailer to feature the movie's new title - famously, it was originally called Revenge of the Jedi until George Lucas opted to change the name, noting that revenge is not the Jedi way. The trailer focuses heavily on the idea of "return," with the narrator opening the preview by saying, "Return to a galaxy far, far away," and later, "Return to heroic adventure," and "Return to the ultimate confrontation."
The trailer showcases many scenes out of sequence, focusing on action and the heroes and villains of the film. The opening shot is of Han, Chewie, Luke, C-3PO, Leia, and R2-D2 aboard the stolen Imperial shuttle Tydirium, en route to Endor ("You ready everybody?" Han says. "Chewie, let's see what this piece of junk can do."), then cuts to the Millennium Falcon during the Rebels' assault on the Death Star, shows Jabba and much of the battle on his sail barge, Ewoks battling Stormtroopers on Endor, and the final duel between Luke and Darth Vader in the presence of the Emperor. The trailer actually does not feature the complete Return of the Jedi logo.

In the Empire trailer he pulls down a warning sign as they say, fighting oppression, or some such.
They actually don't make them like this anymore, a true classic that never gets old.

They changed it because it didn't mesh well with blue sky. Just goes to show nothing in star wars really matters. They will just add something later for it to make sense
The colours are not very accurate on this trailer. I'll try to fix them seeing how the lightsaber colour turns out.

I’m beyond grateful I got to see this masterpiece in theaters.
Same, when I heard it was re-releasing in theatres for the 40th anniversary I knew nothing could stop me from seeing my favorite SW film in a theatre - like it was meant to be seen.
I’ve only seen rogue 1 solo and the ones w ray sadly I was born late😂
Ye I saw it just 2023 it's was good but the special edition, so it spoiled it a bit

Some say is the weaker of the originals. For me is a masterpiece. Every part of it. Pure movie magic
In term of themes, this one is the strongest in the saga. Turning the story into a Greek tragedy instead of a fight between bouncy superhumans like we expected is imo what makes star wars star wars. And the last 45 minutes are rythm masterpiece

0:51 Luke was originally supposed to have a blue light saber in the film as we can see here but because the blue color didn’t show up that well in the sarlacc pit fight scene originally, George decided to change the color to green. So glad he did that cause that green light saber is awesome
If they wanted people to think he'd gone to the Dark Side of the Force, he should have built a red one.
Just think if George didn't make that change, we'd be stuck with only red and blue lightsabers. Pretty boring
Plus given the lore behind the green saber, it fits with Luke's character.
Im pretty sure the actual reason was that they were originally going to have scene where luke built a new lightsaber, but they cut it out. Because they didnt want people to be confused (cos of what happened in esb) they made it green to show it was a new saber.
It makes sense. But here 1:29 the lightsaber appears in green. If this was made using an early cut of the movie, shouldn't it also be blue? Because he uses the same lightsaber during the whole movie.
This was the first movie I can remember seeing at a movie theater when I was a kid. All the kids in my neighborhood went together, I can still remember the excitement we all felt.
"The Saga lives on!" gives me chills every time.
Note the near lack of Ewoks in the trailer.

When we saw this trailer in 1982, especially at the 1:28 mark (with Luke beside Darth Vader) we were freaking out! Wow! The anticipation waiting for it! And why was Luke standing next to Darth Vader so calmly? We were dying to see it!

When I watched it now that struck me as the most spoilery part of the trailer.
@@jedijones Spoils it how? It just shows them standing calmly beside each other. So we were all freaking out wondering what it meant. Did Luke turn bad and join Vader? To us back then, that short snippet didn't spoil or give away anything.
Well originally when Luke unmasked Anakin he was gonna put on Vaders mask and become the new leader of the empire, this was changed because George thought it was way too dark of an ending for Star Wars.
I wonder if some people thought that meant Luke would join Vader and turn to the Dark Side

The Empire gets beaten by primitive Care Bears with sticks and rocks. Its better than a lot of people give it credit for, but you calling it a master piece is just ridiculous.
i love all but the ewoks, and i don hate them entirely they just play too big a role in defeating the empire. maybe they could have played a role but somehow they should have had more help from somewhere else.

I love this movie so much. I can still remember riding with my parents to the theater. Even today when I hear Pat Benatars "love is a battlefield" and Yes' "owner of a lonely heart" I get nostalgic cause I heard them in the car ride there. Lol
I think of the video games I played then during Owner of a Lonely Heart.

I think it’s THE BEST 3rd film of any trilogy out there. Wrapped up everything perfectly and had such a satisfying ending - so rare for 3rd sequels

This is a lot better than the first two movies' trailers. It used the music, they didn't have the narrator talking so much trying to give you a sales pitch instead of showing the movie, and it had the right tone and message with the stuff about destiny fulfilled and the circle closing. Looks like third time was the charm.

I was seven when this trailer aired and I remember completely losing my mind over it! What made it even more special was the film's release coming just after my eighth birthday. My parents took my sister and I to see it in the cinema at least twice, maybe three times.

After this movie, they go on to form and defend the New Republic, and track down rogue Imperials. Those later books and movies are just dreams.

This is by far the best Star Wars movie in my opinion. The Empire Strikes Back does come close but, this one is still my fav. The Return of the Jedi > The Empire Strikes Back > Star Wars (1977) > The Force Awakens > The Revenge of the Sith > The Attack of the Clones > The Phantom Menace

For us now, but back then, his capture in the end of ESB was shocking and people had 3 years to guess what happens to him. That tension should have been loosened in the film, not it's trailers

The great days when Star Wars made sense. Happy times.
I love the cheeky cut in music [the track is spliced together in a way so the chords get higher than usual] at around 0:44 to 0:45. It's charming in a way. It doesn't have to be perfect since the trailer is all about giving us a taste of the whole production. Whereas today everything has to be processed over and over so it's perfect and usually the music doesn't appear in the actual film. The Last Jedi had it's own awesome soundtrack just for the trailer but the music was never heard again in the actual film. That trailer was purely to hype up fans like myself, not for advertising a work of art. The trailer for The Last Jedi was the only good thing about that film. I've gone off topic.....

I feel like the Original Trilogy looks so much better in it's original format (pre-1997 HD-ifying).
The only thing I would have changed would be Yub Nub to the Victory Celebration. That's one of my absolute favorite movie songs.
