But you also got to remember that the wages are also higher In Illinois than they are in Tennessee. I now live in southern Illinois (4 hours from Chicago) I bought my first house back in 2022 and paid 58K move in ready. The county I live at has a lower property tax rate than the average in the state. And my last property tax bill was about $800. Which is kinda high but not crazy. Sales tax is 8.75% where I live and grocery tax is 1%. Income tax is normal like many other states, but stuff that is cheaper here are insurance premiums. In reality, I am doing quite well here. If you live in Chicago, you properly taxes are high there but in downstate, it’s actually quite affordable

True! We still prefer the geography of TN to IL, but to each their own!

The Sales Tax amount you have stated for IL is grossly understated. The statewide sales tax in IL is 6.25% NOT 3.50%. In addition, almost all of the counties have additional sales taxes on top of the Sate Sales tax. As an example, most of the counties surrounding the city Shitcago have a total sales tax of 8.0% and the City of Shitcago itself has a total of 10.25% Sales tax. In addition, gasoline tax in Illinois is much higher than the vast majority of states.

Wellll... even worse for ole IL then! :-)
We used numbers from a WalletHub article (wallethub.com/edu/states-with-highest-lowest-tax-burden/20494) which sourced their data from the Tax Policy Center (www.taxpolicycenter.org).
Even more reason to flea IL in favor of beautiful Tennessee!

As far as I have been able to determine, the State tax on a gallon of gas in TN is $0.26. ---
Motor Fuel Tax, State of Illinois - The State of Illinois’ tax on motor fuel increases annually by the rate of inflation effective every July 1. For the period July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022, the State’s tax rate is $0.392 per gallon of gasoline and $0.467 per gallon of diesel fuel. This was an increase of $0.005 per gallon. The increase in the State tax brings the composite rate in Chicago (including the state, federal, City and County gas tax and the State of Illinois’ $0.003 Underground Storage Tank Tax and $0.008 environmental impact fee) as of January 1, 2022 to $0.727 per gallon of gasoline and $0.862 per gallon of diesel.
In addition the City of Shitcago require a Vehicle sticker for car --- Wheel Tax, City of Chicago - The City of Chicago vehicle sticker fee increases every two years. Effective January 1, 2022, the City’s vehicle sticker price will increase from $90.88 to $95.42 per year for small passenger vehicles and from $144.33 to $151.55 per year for large passenger vehicles.

We know, first hand, how much cheaper it is to own & operate a vehicle in TN than in IL... it's pretty disgusting, as your stats point out! Have you actually considered leaving IL and moving to TN?
