Marlowe...having just watched a video from you on pentatonic scales up the fretboard, THIS lesson confirmed it all. I impressed myself for the first time in a couple of years. You are a God on here. Better than all the rest!!
Love this. I'm a singer too and have discovered in trying to get the riff 'in me' that this is a great vocal warm up too :-) Thanks as always for sharing and happy new year.
This groove sounds great on my 'normal' guitar! I just start with the chord of C, play a little lick, then F, then a little lick and so on! Thank you so much!
MarloweDK - PlayBassNow.com, when I tour Europe, I want to see you play bass guitar, and of course I will bring my favorite bass guitar along: a Music man Stingray 5HH Neck Through, maybe we could jam together and maybe take a picture, perhaps??
Hy Thomas, i wish to you and your family a best 2016, full music....... I just follow your lessons by 1 year, i'm pianist but i enjoy Your love for bass and you transmit to me same emotions. thanks a lot for all this. Vincenzo
Holy crap Thomas that bass is fine looking , I've never seen that color and it looks new. Just today I saw that same color on a MM Stingray with gold knobs and bridge it's fine. Have you ever noticed the position on the tuning pegs being in the same position like this bass is except for the G peg. Do you know if there is a difference in the beveled pegs versus the flat pegs , mine are beveled and I can't get the string to lay flat , its angled down then up.
I'm playing bass ( Motorhead tribute ) a month, I was guitarist, now I want to play bass , and I found you , thank you. All I saw on youtube that your video was what caught my attention , I am taking and studying with you , thank you. I do not know anything down yet , but I know I do not like to slap or funk , kkkkk ... would have some video explaining her how to apply it in a song ??? Thank you one now Brazil 's follower.
BIGeSTRING All basses sound sweet when they're played through sound card interfaces ... the true test is standing in a room in front of a bass cabinet .. this isn't that .. just for your information.
Hi, Thomas, I was wondering do you have this exercise in notation. I tried to transcribe it, but I've found some difficulties doing it. Thank you for this one !
Thank you for the lesson ! Wouldn't it be simpler to explain the riff as root, 10th, etc? That way if you know the root position it would not be hard to find the position of the other notes. Again thank you for your lessons!
Please help. I am practicing my pentatonics, but I keep hearing about arpeggios...I play at church and do a lot of contemporary and gospel type of songs. What will be more beneficial to learn for creating bass lines and fills?
For fills and general bass playing especially gospel, I would say having pentatonic shapes down solid is a must. Arpeggios are very important as well, especially if you do any walking or shout type lines since they are based around 1,3,5,6,b7,7 repeating patterns
I really like your channel. And every video of you that I visualize I give a tanned one. I love the sound of these fender; Not only the fender ... also your video lessons. I admire you a lot. For me you are the master of grooves. I dream someday to be a bassist like you, that I can master my instrument. I'm starting at three years. I LOVE BASS, I LOVE MUSIC. Great hug, thank you for your videos and that you continue to help people realize their dreams of being professional musicians and good of grooves like you. Please leave the best tip for me to deepen my knowledge and practices God bless you always !!!
Cycle of 4ths good way to learn the fingerboard but not much fun.I spend most of my playing time creating interesting, melodic bass lines through chord changes not doing long exercise drills
DislocatedCardiganV1 You know that an ascending perfect fourth is the same thing as a descending perfect fifth without thinking about octaves ? Then this makes perfect sense ... :)
DislocatedCardiganV1 Well, in Europe we call it the circle of fifths, even if we bassplayers are used see the fretboard going up a fourth when going from the E string to the A string, we usually go down a fifth when playing rootnotes from the A string to the E string. Anyway its a just matter of semantics:-)
+DislocatedCardiganV1 no your comment doesn't stand. Come on, we're all bass players...we are cool!....we don't care what's right or wrong! 😎 we just keep it tight!! ;)
right so your saying that because there's no groove he's playing bass like a guitar?. so would that mean that if he was playing guitar with a lot of groove he'd be playing guitar like a bass ?
Daniel Brennan No, if he was playing guitar with a lot of groove that would be groovy guitar playing. Long ago bass playing was melodic rather than rhythmic, at least since the late 70s bass playing has been more rhythmic than melodic, so when a bass player plays 'artistic melodies', it mean there is nobody playing the bass.
ahh right, i see what your saying now. i though at first you were one of these guys who think the bass should just sit in the back and not be at all flashy or melodic. you most likely already know tis but the bass can be groovey flashy and melodic a the same time and maelowe is a master at it.
The single most useful lesson I've seen online!!Really great for getting to know your fretboard!!

Muito bom, aulas sem enrolação, Deus te abençoe.
Gabriel da Silva Santos Obrigado:-)

Hey Marlowe I just love this Bassline but I just can't get it the fingering right if it not to much can you send me the tab
Love your videos man very informative. Quick question though when are you going to pull out the good ol' Rickenbacker or Shergold Modulator bass?
Thx man, the Shergold is long gone, but ill use the Rick soon:-)
Hi, Thomas, I was wondering do you have this exercise in notation. I tried to transcribe it, but I've found some difficulties doing it. Thank you for this one !
Thanks buddy.... Smile
Hi Thomas, if you ever think of selling your pink Sandberg, please let me know!!
can you make some vids with a different rock bass line? thanks, I would appreciate that.
Linda
Thank you for the lesson ! Wouldn't it be simpler to explain the riff as root, 10th, etc? That way if you know the root position it would not be hard to find the position of the other notes. Again thank you for your lessons!
Are you using standard Fender P-bass pickups on that thing? Or something custom?

J Caetano Filho Say hello to my friend in Rio - Pedro Mazillo!
Cycle of 4ths good way to learn the fingerboard but not much fun.I spend most of my playing time creating interesting, melodic bass lines through chord changes not doing long exercise drills
wow
Yes, except it's a circle of fourths NOT fifths. Other than that great lesson :)
DislocatedCardiganV1 You know that an ascending perfect fourth is the same thing as a descending perfect fifth without thinking about octaves ? Then this makes perfect sense ... :)
Oh yes. Big Wheel top is C right one place is G, left one place is F. But this lesson is moving in fourths not fifths, so my comment stands. :)
DislocatedCardiganV1 Well, in Europe we call it the circle of fifths, even if we bassplayers are used see the fretboard going up a fourth when going from the E string to the A string, we usually go down a fifth when playing rootnotes from the A string to the E string. Great sound, but the bass is way too over done.

This isn't bass playing. This is playing a bass like a guitar.
he's holding a bass and he's playing. that's bass playing
