For such a small software outfit I’d be wary of partnering with them unless it’s open source. Most companies fail. You don’t want to get stuck with some proprietary thing that can’t be updated or fixed.

Cool stuff. There is going to be a huge surplus of microgreens worldwide soon, you can grow these anywhere in a small cubicle even. Very cool and simple to do with automation of the water nutrient levels.

I'm very much concerned on the availability of seeds with an increased demand since this is the case. I've noticed a lot of common microgreen seeds are sold out every once in awhile. At the same time, I'm very much concerned with the consumer price index in general that is skyrocketing to such a point that people won't be as likely to spend as much money on a crop the general public knows little about. Microgreens are nutritious but not filling. With increased prices on your production costs with the rise in cpi, you'll have to increase your price to make a good profit. Are people willing to pay $6 or more on 2oz of mgs in the near future? Hard to say. All I know is my chef friend had to stop buying from me and cut out a lot from his menu to keep his prices low due to the high rising costs of food. And it's only going to get worse. Thank your government.

As a software developer who is transitioning into homesteading this is very disappointing to see. None of this is open source. It is all behind an "enterprise" old school sales cycle. I'm very much tempted to document on my RUclips building an alternative website to this at no cost to smaller scale farmers.

Check out OpenSprinkler for an open-source irrigation controller. I've adapted the OSPi edition of the hardware to my own custom 128-station PCB and have written my own management system to help me with keeping track of records, managing rotations and automated deficit irrigation.

Great channel, congrats on the land. As a SaaS salesman selling modern software to SMALL businesses.. this is disappointing to see as well. As a top salesman: I don't know how I'd sell a closed source app built on closed source hardware to small-scale farmers, who are almost exclusively DIY. But he'll get good traction with monied warehouse farmers, I'm sure.
If you're serious about the undertaking: I do think there'd be great need for your open source alternative.

@@bradcavanagh3092 Sounds like you would be a big help on Coder to Homesteader's proposed project. Deficit irrigation would be such a cool automation for me to have on a shelf by shelf level, but this is costly in a proprietary system, no? I'm a one man show and I can't do what you just described because I have a learning disability: and I can't just "buy it" as you suggest because I'm broke, but not from lack of effort.
Do you think increasing that access to technology for younger farmers would be cool as well?
      Great minds!

Another way to look at it is that you can produce more with less work. That labor can be directed elsewhere, producing more of what we may need.
if we can produce 100x food without increasing the labor required, we all win.

There is so many open source automated farming apps now, this guy is using blurple led still, the cannabis industry has been using samsung superior tech for 2 to 3 years now, far beyond philips for increasing plant tissue and quality (samsung lm301H)... look into the lights called Scyne LED or Kingbrite, the models called the Raging Kale and Raging Kush 2.0, they have colors and UV of every spectrum adjustable by phone. KingBrite is one of the cheapest wholesalers for lm301H prebuilt lights right now, believe me I did years of research heh.
Also arduino automated watering kits, and automated raspberry pi kits are under 200 now, to do all this and link it to your phone with pH, water levels, light levels, everything, under 1000 by trolmaster, or like i said above, you have 2 opensource raspberry pi or arduino methods if you are a techy type.
