This was Townes's swansong album … a bleakly beautiful, if harrowing, conclusion to an unparalleled catalogue. Huge credit is due to Dublin's Philip Donnelly, who not only produced it with a deft touch, but also played many of the guitars, and got the very best out of this revered man in steep decline … Donnelly's CV includes several years as sideman to the mercurial Lee Clayton, and production credits with the great John Prine, Tracy Nelson and many more. The guy knows his stuff ...
This and Marie, possibly the saddest songs that I have ever heard in my entire life. They both describe a hopeless situation in Two different men, both reaching the end in their own way. Different struggles but same feeling. I remember him describing this song in an interview as ''It's beautiful.... In a way''.. Couldn't be any more true..
You still painting Will? I remember Townesfest 98' and something about eggs! Remember that? If this isn't Will then whomever posted this won't know what I'm talking about. Thanks for sharing the video and it happens to be one of many of my favorite Townes songs.
Benji This song is by Townes Van Zandt, and I would 100% encourage you to listen to more of his music. If you like this, listen to Marie, another one of his best songs, in my opinion. Also if you’re interested in learning more about him, there’s a documentary about him that’s currently posted to RUclips called Be Here To Love Me, but it might get removed so if you’re interested you might wanna check it out soon.
The late great Townes van Zandt. I've heard this song soo many times and I still love everything about it. One of the greats!
