Well, expensive up to a point, just like other goods and services. [Not that I have to explain basic economics to you.] She seems to simply admit that twenty pounds/dollars is a sweet spot for value, and that it's great to try lesser-hyped regions and countries of oenological origin. I agree as a former employee of a wine and spirits shop in New York.
I'm not a sommelier but working in a wine bar I can tell you never buy a wine over $50 because once you compare a $10 wine to one that is $30 you'll be able to taste more complexity, however I've done a blind tasting where they had a $200 Bordeaux vs a $70 one and it's very difficult to tell the difference.
Andy Gonzalez true, unless you are really into wine and have a ridiculously refined palate, anything over $50 is hard to tell apart among popular wines. Unless you go for niche wines such as ice wines or certain rare cépages the price isn’t really worth it for most. a good bet is too try the appellation contrôlé, or basically anything above $20. That’s where the value is at. From there work around the cépages or type of wine you enjoy and play around, whether it’s ancien monde or nouveaux monde. If you wanna splurge, get a grand cru(we recommend at least 3), keep it in a wine cellar, and enjoy after 5-10 years.
Agreed on the last point, once you cross a certain quality threshold, say the $60 range, it’s very hard to tell the difference between wines. I went to a Bordeaux tasting recently and found it very difficult to distinguish between the $300 classified growth producers and the $70 village producers. My wine of the night was around $80

Hi, I'm a sommelier with a RUclips channel. I agree with what she's saying here. The only way to get TRUE value is to travel to where the wines are made. They tend to keep the good stuff themselves and export "designed" blends for outside markets. And let's not get into all the extra costs for the middle man and taxes!
I've never tried the Trump Winery line of products, as they're not widely distributed, even in President Donald J. Trump's home state of New York. I should have bought a bottle of his California sparkling wine at a store in downtown Albany early last year when I had a chance, but I don't get up there very often. I just thought you should know this, Mr. President.
In double blind studies sommeliers consistently cannot tell an expensive wine from a cheap one. I think it says more than this so called expert does...

It's a fictitious job made to make people believe that they are some absolute experts on wines but in fact they can't tell the difference between a cheap wine and an expensive one in a blind test.
I just got a 315 dollar bottle of French wine as a present and I’m not going to lie, it was to light and not good rather get yatir a Jewish wine for 75 bucks
Hey, wonderful Kosher wine from Israel and elsewhere can be had for $10 to $20! I recommend the Gamla and Tishbi brands to start. [It's not just Manischewitz and Kedem that define Judaic wine tradition, although they are both produced here in the great state of New York! You probably knew that already.]

"I'm a wine expert" Who's to say? Like with any product, there's definitely a cut-off price point beyond which no added value can be perceived. Go mid-range and you'll always be happy and so will your wallet. Don't pay for names. Understand that French wines are overvalued and often mediocre.

When you drink a $10 wine you just wasted $10, plus the cost of your gas and time driving to the store to buy it. You wasted more money than you even spent on the wine. When you drink an expensive quality wine it makes your life worth living, and life is priceless.
Why would someone purposely poison their bodies? It also has permanent effects. (I’ve never drunken any type of alcohol in my life because it’s harmful)
It's good to stay away from booze if that's what keeps you motivated to live a clean existence. But it's also not the end of the world (or your life) if you imbibe once in a while for personal enhancement of cultural knowledge.
A professional in the wine industry recommends expensive wine, who would have guessed.
Binnes
They want more money...
They are expensive for a reason
She just wants you to buy her wine while eatting her B.S..
I recently bought a box of expensive chocolates. An amazing flavour. Mind blowing. The cheapo chocies are cheap for a reason. They come nowhere close.

Kind of like how you don't ask a barber if you need a hair cut.
Not too surprising to see the most expensive wines recommended here.

Spending zero on alcohol has the best value.
Allan Sh U are the Man
This will be a great excuse for my birthday when I ask for an expensive bottle of wine.
They just remember the taste of expensive wine, it doesn't TASTE better
90% is wine sold in US is $10 or less
I worked at a wine/liquor store for a while and every week tried new 2 different red wines, so I usually stick to wines cost 12-20 $ from Costco :D
Get the wine that taste good and is not breaking the bank. That’s all, folks!
We need Adam to see this
Odyssey Grana I was thinking the same thing he even said people like her are faking it and he is not the only one who has proven it
Hey Amilia just wondering did you get your certification as a sommelier or are you proclaiming to be a self made wine expert?
I feel bad for wine experts. I think deep down they know their profession is complete bullshit, but they continue to go along with it anyways.
Mr President hahaha couldn’t be more true, kind of sad really...
Just drink what you like and experiment around to see the different wines out there and not go for the most expensive one.

Feel bad for them ? They paid to drink wine for crying out loud lol . It's like how porn stars get " paid to get laid " sort of speak
I'll stick with my box wine anyday.
Alvaro Lopez in Germany we call that stuff Pennerglück it kind of translates to tramp-bliss...

Do a blind tasting between $1000 vs $10 wine. You will be surprised about people choice.
"Wine experts"
Who Would Imagine
*Hard to swallow pills
"Alcohol has a net negative effect on your life"
not true, drinking in moderation is good for your heart and stress levels = longer life
$4 wine works for me

Good video, I know next to nothing about wine but the video was entertaining!
So she is saying if you spend more money you get better quality. Who would’ve guessed that.
Certainly not many people in the comments here.

HI How are you? Marijuwinea
Can you do if law school is worth it again using up to date statistics
$20 is not expensive wine. The difference between a $200 and $2000 bottle is extremely minimal. All marketing
According to Vox, expensive wine is for suckers.
Fake news
what is this job LOL

Sam Smith wine at those prices isn't for drinking anyway. It's to keep 5 years and then sell for 500...
vrsca89 true, but it wasn’t going to go up in price. And I’m a scotch guy

Both can cause ALCHOLISM !!!
wine tasters cannot consistently pick out a or grade the same wine in a competition.
The fact that she recommends Tourraine over Sancerre shows me she doesn't know what she's talking about. Tourraine is plain.
Subtle Ink well if you enjoy balance over the acidity then yeah Touraine, otherwise Sancerre.
Sanpaku
🙄
Bulshit its water down
