- We are near the end of rainy season (Nov-March). It’s been raining on and off throughout the island, especially in Koolau mountain areas. So, we decided somewhere in Waianae mountain ranges. After hiking Kaena Pt and Mokuleia Access Rd / Kealia Trail, we decided to hike Makaha Ice Ponds trail.
We were planning to hike to the Ice Ponds which is quite easy. After seeing the ponds, we decided to go beyond since its trail looked so nice. We hiked another 2.5 miles beyond the ponds and turned around since we did not have a map or its surrounding topography. To the Makaha Ice Ponds, it is about 6.2miles roundtrip with 1100 ft elev gain. We went further and our trip was 11.7 miles with 2187 ft elev gain.
Mahalo for watching my video. Please subscribe for more Oahu hiking trail guide. Спорт
mahalo! i’ve always wanted to go here, never knew how though
I hear you. We lost the trails a couple of times but my Garmin Orgon 450t GPS (preloaded with tracks) helped us navigate. The cut-off point to cross the Makaha stream for the first time about 0.6 miles from Makaha Valley Tower is not Easy To Find when the tall grass is over-grown !
Makaha, My Home 🤙🏽
Makaha beach is one of the best beaches for surfing in the Winter.
Very nice. Thank you
Mahalo for checking out my video.
Thank you!
Have you been up there ?
@@LivingTheDreaminHawaii not yet! I will go soon! Thank you for sharing video.
I know every inch of that mountain my backyard
Waianae mountain ranges are beautiful and not rugged as the Koolau.
Damn, even the ice pond look all suntan lotion polluted. 🤦🏽♂️
Nice try but nope. The constant flow of water over volcanic rocks can give them an icy appearance.
Is this a legal hike? 1:23 ?
Yes. All of my hikes (Oahu / Hawaii hiking trail guide) are legal. Mahalo for checking out my channel. If you have any questions about any of Oahu trails, I can provide you information about its trailhead and difficulty, etc.
Lol it clearly says "private property no trespassing". Yet you claim it's legal?
@@greatguy2003 Most of Oahu trails go through the Board of Water supply access road. You can use the access the road as long as it is not fenced off like the "water tank" area. Also, its sign means if you get hurt while hiking, Board of Water supply is not responsible since it has its warning sign.
