- This dude came to my house with only an hour to play with (he was late for a flight to somewhere). Luckily, I prepped the night before and laid out a ProTools session with 15 or so beats that I had done (with the programmed drums muted). He walked in and we skipped the “hello hi” stuff, and he just threw on the headphones and sat down at the kit. The mics were prepped and the pre-amps were all warmed up. I hit play/record and the beat came on. What he did is what you hear on the record. I’m an editor and I love to chop and loop and fly and sample and yatta yatta, but I didn’t want to do sh*t to this drum take. It was game tight. By the time that song ended in his headphones, I had already slid the next one into the ProTools session and in real time he hit it in one take… Threw on another… First Take… Another… First Take… We only had an hour or so, but what he did is what you hear on the record… all first takes. Most underrated drummer ever. If you get the chance to see this guy live it will absolutely entrance you into a fit where you can't stop dancing. The head bobbing will ultimately call for the need of a chiropractor.

Specs on the mic set up if you can recall? The drums sound tight.
I am curious, how much prep did he have on the tracks? He obviously knew the tracks pretty well. He is definitely the man!
I 1,000% shit you not... he heard NONE of these before walking in the door. There's one edit that he wanted to hit to tag the end of a song with the hits in the track (Data Decimator) and another song (Swivel) that we did 2 passes on (not on this video). Other than that this is all him hearing, reacting, playing in real time. Dude plays live with DJs so he can roll w/ a live beat set. He plays with musicians (obviously) so he can react fluidly, and he makes beats so he knows and intuits the form/arrangement of a produced track.

I'm wondering if you have any of the other songs he recorded on video somewhere else online? I downloaded the whole record. Freakin awesome man. Love driving around town listening to these grooves.
