There are a lot of things in this update that feel like placeholders. Take the crafting recipes for duplicating smithing templates. All the other crafting recipes for real things try to mimic reality to a degree, so why do trims require a cubic meter of rock?
Sounds like they need a few changes: -Make them spawn in deserts when a lot of villagers are in close proximity- *-Make 1-4 of them spawn per village* -Make them able to fall 7 blocks before taking fall damage -Tell all the Minecraft news RUclipsrs, such as Toycat, that they can sprint
And they should get a buff on sand that they can walk faster bc in real life camils have less trouble walking through desserts than other animals and I would give horse a decreas in speed when walking through naturally generated sand bc if that happens you want a horse when outside of the dessert and a cammel inde the dessert bc it also that way in reall life
For the first suggestion I think this will create the iron golem problem of spawning more than the village needs and could make breeding them useless because the villager spawning mechanic would be more op.
I like em. They're still decently fast if you use their sprint and the jump has been pretty handy. It probably won't affect most people, but it can also go up 1.5 tall blocks automatically, which is cool
its a bit harder to get any good food source in a desert(bread gives almost no saturation), so riding on a mob thats decently faster than the sprint speed is good for saving food.
my main issue with them is theyre kind of rare. Im not familiar with the IRL Camel spawning but if they just spawned like a desert horse it'd probably more reasonable that they're not too much.

Bear in mind how much easier it is to traverse over rivers with the camel. The dash gets you over most of it, and it's height lets you swim across the river on its back for longer before being kicked off
I actually like the camel, you can sprint on it which makes it go faster and it’s good for battle: 1. You can have two people 2. You can go over fences and walls 3. And three zombies and mobs like that can’t attack you

I got one, and I actually love the camel. Not only does it have normal and sprint mode, but words cannot describe how useful the long jump is for crossing rivers.
My world is 7 years old, so I had to go really far out to find it so I moved a camel 13,000 blocks across the overworld, across several oceans (THEY DON'T GO IN BOATS) to get it back to my house. Looking back I should have just moved it through the nether.
I feel like camels should just spawn naturally in the desert and instead, the village camels can have special saddles already equipped (like the wandering trader llama).
You should have to actually tame those llamas in the desert I don’t like that it’s automatically available without you like- befriending it first when that’s not how it works with any other tameable mob.

It was my favorite part of the update and while it’s not anymore I still can look past it’s drawbacks, definitely will be adding it to my Zoo of animals in my world
sameee the exploration is my favorite. remember finally getting to play on java around 1.13 after playing on limited worlds in console edition. I was sooo excited to explore infinite worlds but it was just so boring and samey. After the 1.18 update that drastically made the caves and surface terrain interesting, as well as the updates afterward focusing on exploration/adventure I'm having SO much more fun! :D
I wish 1.20 was as big as 1.16 though. There's like nothing to explore because it's all announced. But in 1.16, it was all announced but you had to experience it for yourself because of how crazy the uodate was. Riding a camel isn't a monumental feature you need to experience for yourself
One suggestion I've seen is to make villagers capable of riding in the second seat with you. I think that would be a great way to give the camel an actually useful purpose while also solving the villager transportation problem.
It's so sad that they don't walk properly. One of the trademarks of a camel in real life is that it walks by moving both legs on one side, but in Minecraft it's just a normal walking animation :(
The camel has 3 unique features that make it different from horses 1. Two people can ride it 2. It is tal enough for zombies 3. It can dash (In my opinion really great and well thought out features) Next to that I think the texture fits in way better than the sniffer texture and I like that they are so rare! I also think it was a great chaise to make it a bit slower than the horse so it doesn’t get useless. So it’s still fast but not faster. I don’t actually see anything great about the sniffer it only gives us some decorative plants
I think the one thing that would make camels an amazing addition is if they make it to where you can put villagers on the back of them and take them off, this would make it so much easier to transport villagers

Not everything in minecraft needs to have a use or be op, I know people hate armor trims because they dont do anything except for changing the look of your armor but that is what I love about trims, just the fact you can add cool details to your armor is amazing, I wish there was a way to trim weapons (or even customize the color of the enchant glow on a specific tool, like imagine how cool it'd look if you could make a neatherite sword that glows orange, or red, or any color other than what we normaly see) I was sad when they scraped fireflies, I know they wouldn't have a use, but it would add a nice atmosphere (especially at night)
I don't like the auto crouch if you're in a space less than two blocks. When I'm climbing my ladder and just want to shut the trapdoor above me, it makes me crouch and I can't go down
They should make the camel have a large storage to combat this! Its realistic as thats what they do irl and it allows you to transport a ton of items without late game items like skulker boxes

Its good that the camel can't jumpp high and is too slow. 1st of all, two players can ride, so of course they gotta make it balanced in speed and other factors secondly, the jump height is very low so it can have its dash. If they jumped to high or ran too fast, they would LITERALLY be better than horses and make horses obsolete.
I like that 2 people can ride them. Also you can sprint on them which makes tgem pretty fast, and theyre pretty easy to jump over rivers, unlike horses which are sooo hard to get across water
they're actually great, the dash is super helpful when crossing rivers, they have a lot of health and really don't take that much fall damage, easy to heal, and you can bring a friend along as well not to mention Camel Parkour, that's really fun!

Camels should at least infinitely respawn in desert villages like cats. Finding just one the first time you load a desert village is just ludicrous. If not, maybe finding them at desert wells as well could be a good idea?
for any bio nerds out here; they actually got the camel’s weird walk down perfectly, for some reason they move all the legs on one side at a time, which basically nothing else of that size does- (except for giraffes i think?) which is neat
I just use camels to stroll around the new server me and my pals have. I would even charge a few pieces of iron to take them on a beautiful ride around the server. Because he is so slow, it makes it really peaceful (although, we need a bed checkpoint or 2)
Camel should have the ability where you could carry 4 chest instead of 1 or 2 it wouldn’t replace the donkey, nor it would replace the llama, but it would be an interesting mob for chess storage capabilities. that’s just my thoughts though on this topic to make it into a mob that people would want to find.

Bro camels are are actually hella useful as they allow you to walk into crowds of mobs and take no damage allowing for easy farming and this is especially good in the nether when your fighting zombie piglins
I still think this update is bad for the overall health of the game. If you play single player, the only thing you are going to care about in survival is the netherite upgrade template. No single player exclusive player will use armor trims. Archeology follows a similar vein. It's cosmetic, nothing more. And in multi-player servers, it promotes mass raiding for the shiny new cosmetics. Servers can only get so big, so the amount of trims and templates and pot fragments are limited.

In the real world, there are almost no feral camels left in the world, they are all domestic. So it makes sense why they spawn in desert villages.

donkeys, llamas and mules already do that though, and camels are pretty fast and useful in game

Oh my gosh I totally agree. The whole point of the camel was to be *different* than the horse. But I do think it should spawn normally in the desert.
now that i think about it. i haven't spotted a single camel in my world but already hatched 3 ancient eggs for sniffers.
Camels also need two fences high to keep them in because they can just step over 1 fence high fences.

The Sniffer is the most useless mob. Doesnt drop meat or even any drops, and it only occasionally provides 2 useless flower seeds.

Bro camels are are actually hella useful as they allow you to walk into crowds of mobs and take no damage allowing for easy farming and this is especially good in the nether when your fighting zombie piglins
It’s not useful for that, since you can’t use sweep attacks while riding a mount
I completely forgot that Mojang added giraffes!
The jump is good for huge rivers when crossing long flat stretches.
I still think this update is bad for the overall health of the game. If you play single player, the only thing you are going to care about in survival is the netherite upgrade template. No single player exclusive player will use armor trims. Archeology follows a similar vein. It's cosmetic, nothing more. And in multi-player servers, it promotes mass raiding for the shiny new cosmetics. Servers can only get so big, so the amount of trims and templates and pot fragments are limited.
I really hope that desert wandering traders use camels instead of lamas, it just feels right
