So so so happy to hear you guys talk so progressively about child birth being a woman's call! Breath of fresh air! I don't think anyone has the right to tell a woman if or when she should have a baby because it's her and only her body and mind that goes through changes and pain and so many other things that one can potentially fathom. The family, relatives, even parents of the couple, none of them will ever be responsible for the child the way the woman is! The one thing that I absolutely can't understand, in the Indian context is how talking about sex and periods is an issue but random people telling you to have kids (which is essentially sex) is alright?! Thanks guys, Suresh sir, Cyrus, Jose and Cyril for being the men women deserve! :)
What about the husband, though? If he was misled into thinking that they would have kids eventually, and later the wife decides she doesn't want to put herself through that ordeal, won't it be unfair on her part? If they've mutually decided they dont want kids that's perfectly fine, but otherwise having kids is not like buying a house or a car, it depends on a lot of factors which may not always be favorable.

Shraddha, please be honest with yourself and try and understand why you feel it may not work out with the guy. The wedding date is getting really close, so do it ASAP. As Cyril and Cyrus said, don't compare the guy with them. There's a lot of things that are much more and really important in life.. I'd suggest you write down what you really feel and what the problem is and discuss with your parents and the guy. Writing really helps. Saying from my own experience. It helps to figure out what's within us. But pls be brutally honest when you write. I hope you find answers soon.

About the caller who said that she's being pressured to have a baby - I really appreciate the advice given here. While I agree that having or not having a baby is primarily a woman's choice, I strongly believe that the husband should also be very much involved. Best to have a discussion beforehand to know where both of them stand on this issue, and know about any strong opinions on either side. Because these are big decisions, and it is natural to want to have kids and one can change their mind later on too.
Also, imagine if the situation were reversed that the wife wants a baby but the husband doesn't want it and he had made it clear early on. Then should she still have the baby because it is "only" her decision?
Well said. I too feel once 2 people are in a marriage, a topic as huge as a child needs to be discussed by both the parties. After all, the responsibility of bringing that baby up will fall on both the parents, not just the mother.
Asked my wife about this, and she said the same thing. There are actually more disadvantages to late pregnancies, like neurological or chromosomal disorders. People actually mean well when they're telling you to have kids, but if you eventually get there too late and find that the ship has sailed, don't go blaming the world for being unfair.

Tara, I'd just like to say one thing.. Just know you from the stream and may not have understood your problem completely. But if its the question of readiness, I feel we will never feel "completely ready" for any major phase of life. We ll always have our fears and questions. What Suresh is saying is correct. Becoming parent on a later age doesn’t have financial benefits as one may think. Especially in India, where parents help for the higher education and help getting settled. Repaying loans at a higher age where your productivity decreases is a main concern.

Man I have watched all the Dr. Hojay ka Clinics, I think, and the end of this one is the first time I felt like shouting at the panelists. What were they on about, about love happening later, fighting being a normal part of relationships, not coming up with excuses, and all that shizz? Were they listening to her? Shreya, if you are somehow still here and read this, please _please_ collect all the courage that you will ever have in your life, all that you never knew you had, and absolutely and categorically REFUSE to go ahead with this, at this time. At the very least, ask for the wedding to be postponed by a few months such that you both have time to reevaluate. The very worst thing you can do, for yourself, for the guy, for your parents, and for his family, is to go ahead with this when you are so certain that it is wrong. If you are not wed yet, _it is still not too late_. Please...I know it is impossibly difficult to do and incomparably easier to say, but please do this one thing, the most courageous and outrageous one you will ever do (hopefully), and put your foot down. Ignore the initial shock and the infamy; soon it will be forgotten. And the pain will be as nothing to what you might face if things fail so completely as you seem to expect them to. Which is not to say that things will be irreparable even if the marriage does go wrong (you can and should always be able to get your life back on track, if you have the support of those around you). But why get into a bad situation knowingly? Think of how your parents and all who love you will suffer if you do.
Please, if you can, GET THIS POSTPONED. This is not a matter to repress all your urges and hope for the best.
