This is by far my favorite 2011, hell 1911 for that matter, that i have ever shot. I just got mine bout a few months ago and it's just a fuckin beast. A lot of 1911 purests out there po-poo the idea of a 1911/2011 being in 9mm, but i love it! But not only is it a phenomenal 2011/1911, it's one of the best guns in 9mm in general. I have spent wayyyyyyy too much money on some high-end guns over the years, but thankfully for the most part i have never regretted these purchases despite the fact that they are ridiculously overpriced. And the Combat Master is one of those examples where it in spite of being mind-bogglingly expensive, it's just so damn good that the purchase was beyond worth it. The only 9mm's out there that i like about as much are the HK-USP, the Mark 23, the P30L, the Shadow 2, the Sig X6 Supermatch, the X5, and my number one favorite hand-gun on the planet which happens to also be a relatively new purchase, (picking mine up almost a year ago), - The Arex Alpha. I don't know which of these are all that much better than one another, so it's hard for me to say exactly which the Combat Master is better or worse than, but it's certainly in the middle of that group at the very least. But again, like i already said, despite being a fantastic pistol - it may be the single most incomprehensibly expensive firearm ive ever purchased. I spent more t=n this pistol than i did on a number of similarly over-priced high end assault-rifles/carbines. Yet, with all that in mind, if you have the money and really have your heart set on this gun, i can tell you with complete certainty that you will not regret it and that all your second-thoughts will be obliterated the moment you get the gun in your hands and squeeze off a few rounds!

Jesse Haffner I just got the X5 legion and I’m loving it so far. I’ve been drooling over the combat master ever since it came out. Just not sure I’m willing to drop $4k on it. $4k buys a lot of ammo.

Is it IDPA legal? Would you suggest 9 or 40?

BLANK MAN While I haven’t reviewed the most recent update in the IDPA rules, in the past the lightning cut on the front of the slide would make the gun illegal and with the 5.4 inch barrel it may not fit their box dimension.
Both the 9mm and 40 shoot awesome but they each have their own purpose.
If you’re shooting steel challenge, three gun or just plinking around I’d go with the 9mm.
If you shoot USPSA and IPSC like me, you’ll want the major power factor that 40 provides.

@@NilsJonasson I think Taran has a version of the combat master with an island barrel and some other tweaks, and shoots 9mm major. It cost around $300 - $400 more than the one that STI sells. Not sure if that's better than other options that shoot .40 for major power factor.

@@NilsJonasson Oh sorry, it was my first match ever and I was told by Shannon they don't get any tougher than that. Are you coming to universal shooting in July (I think) for the nationals?
