Speed of sound absolutely makes a difference at the sort of distances and speeds we're talking about. Typical scenario: a 40-yard pass down the center of the field. Via trigonometry, this puts the linesman about 55 yards away from the kick. It takes 0.15 seconds for the sound to reach him. In that time, a really quick player can travel over four feet running at top speed, making all the difference between offside and onside. The result: players called offside even though they aren't.
clip #19 was considered offside but in fact it is onside since there was 2 players, one was in offside position and the second was not, and the second one was the one involved in the active play, not player one!
Great training video. A couple of criticisms. 1. Why film it in front of a building with glass? Reflections (which you would not see at any field) are an added element that distracts from the point. 2. Having shorts/pants the same colour for both teams is not a realistic scenario either.
If the ball is kicked 300 meter distance from you you have a delay of a whole second, that means that there is a significant difference depending how close to you it is.
ris94 jo i agree but from the time you look at the ball to when the player is running is kind of hard to tell so sound does help. I mean we are not machines to tell 100%
1) Why are we doing this from the wrong side? 2) I agree, as a few others have mentioned, no sound is not helpful, I guess you are assuming that at Pro level that we wouldn't be able to hear it across the field, but you should at least give us a chance.
On Clip 19 one of the attackers is offside and one is onside. The pass goes to the left where the attacker was onside. The one who was offside didn't interfere therefore he is passively offside. That's just a bad training video if they don't care for passive and active offside.
imposible to make judgment becouse camera is not with second last defender .reflections . plus it is imposible to watch two objects on tv screen . can't take it seriously this test . you have to try it on the field . luckily we have asisstent referees in the game and not spectators :)
+Eric Schreiber Yea, looks like they used Clip 1 again. The answer isn't wrong, though, they were onside and the answer says onside, but it is a different clip. Which, since I missed #1, I also missed #24 (at least I'm consistent!)
Excelente conteúdo. Se me permite uma consideração, em relação ao clip 19, o jogador que recebe a bola no vídeo, no momento do passe está habilitado. Foi considerado fora de jogo, mas o jogador que está em offside não joga.
@Rodrigo Pereira is mentioning a fact I agree with. Clip 19 is actually Onside. There is one attacking player in offside position, but he never goes into active play. The ball is played to the other in red, in onside position.
+Guido Lamoto Agree with you on 19, but 21 is a little more arguable. An offside player must have an impact on the play for it to be called offside, since he is so near the ball and for a relatively longer period, one could potentially argue he impacts the play by the way the defenders and gk would adapt to his presence near the ball. For it to be clearcut, he should stop running sooner. You're probably right tho
+Guido Lamoto Clip 19 is offside. With the new laws about offside its now illegal to be part of the play even without touching the ball, if the ball is played toward you and you're in a offside positsion its offside, even if you dont touch the ball
That's not true. It's even more difficult now to be penalised for an offside position without touching the ball. You basically have to touch the ball or enter a tackle for the ball to be penalised for the offside position. Clip 19 is therefore clearly no offside. Clip 21 is arguable. Neither of the players touches the ball. It would propably go to the goalkeeper. Then again, no offside
There are 2 things that bother me in this video. First of all, it is really difficult without the sound of the ball being kicked because it forces you to watch the ball and the player when all you want to be doing is watching the player. Also, the camera angle is on the wrong side, so that is kind of weird too
on, on, off, on, on, on, off, on, off, on, on, off, on, off, off, on, off, off, on, on, on, on, on, on, on. All correct when 19 and 21 are correctly ruled onside since the player in the offside position would not have an impact on the play
BS. I only watch first 5 but all are off-side. Off-side rule is clear: 2 players needed. There only is a "defender" (well a guy running). People forget that the keeper counts in those situation. But here we can't see if there's a keeper, I assume we see all the players. So all are offside.
Ronaldo r9 is very good at this. I’ve seen so many goals of him where he timed his run perfectly and stayed onside. His famous goal vs Lazio in UEFA final is one of them.
18/25 Although as others have said, the ruling on Clip 19 appears to be incorrect. Same argument can be made for Clip 21 as well. But whether the player in offside position challenges the ball or not is less obvious in that one. The movement is a bit awkward. Additionally Clip 5 is hairline close. Very hard to correctly rule that one. Especially watching it from a 30 (or less) fps video and with this angle. Conclusion: VAR is a blessing from soccer gods.
These are all wrong. The ball in the clip has not been kicked. When showing onside in the clip. The ball hasn't made a single rotation or forward movement. In the next tenth of a second when the ball moves, the player would be in an offside position. So these are poor examples also audio is needed to help as ever official uses sound to make the call because you can't watch the ball being kicked and the player in an onside or offside position.
Sorry but impossible without sound. You can’t look for when the ball is kicked and be off line anyway. What you really need is a GoPro on the assistants head

if you don't know what to call, you shouldn't call shit
Honestly, I think this video is rubbish. First off, the point of view should be directly on the line and not at an angle. On clip 16, it may be that if the camera view were on the offside line, the player's head would have been ahead of the defender's foot. Secondly, this video should be labeled 'offside position' since there seems to be little effort to determine which of the two attackers is playing the ball.
Pretty false scenarios of limited use IMO. No sound. All close to assistant. All assistants have to use ball kick sound as passer and attacker often not in same field of vision.
What is the best way to improve my soccer skills? I read plenty of great opinions on the net about how Episoketren System can help you increase your soccer skills. Has any one tried this popular training program?
Let's try a another argument...all these are onside because the ball is kicked by someone wearing a black top - presumably the referee - clothed similarly to the assistant referee. The guy in the red top is never offside as the ball hasn't been played forward by a member of his own team. Joel Lacey - feel free to use that argument as it's just as ridiculous as your one.
joel lacey the whole point is to practice following the second to last defender. which is supposed to be the guy they are following in the video. it is about the principle and practicing the vision and reflexes.
Victor K They did not make that clear, I got through about 10 of them before realising and you cannot just say there is a goalkeeper when there is not. Rule states that you can't be in front of the second last defender and so many people do not know this rule and it is really annoying so I would expect that a "PRO" assistant referee test would help and not hinder this rule. Just my opinion bro, would have been fine if they stated it at the beginning but if you are playing a game without goalkeepers and still playing offside then it is second last not last as I was thinking this video was.
What is the best way to earn the respect and admiration of my friends and other players? I read a lot of superb reviews on the internet about how Episoketren System can assist you improve your soccer technique. Has anyone tested out this popular training program?
Why is there no sound with these clips? Would help a lot to hear when the ball is kicked.
+Rus Royce
The speed of sound it coming later than the eye contact?
Think it's great but i get your point!
not at that distance, the latency difference would be minute
+Andreas Bonde You won't make a difference at that distance .

Seriously? 60+ thousand fans and players screaming, and you want to hear the ball kicked?
clip #19 was considered offside but in fact it is onside since there was 2 players, one was in offside position and the second was not, and the second one was the one involved in the active play, not player one!
Yes but I think the whole point is too just look at the positions not determin if they are punishable...
They might have been going for impeding the defender.
I thought every single one was offside LOL
Lol me 2
I didn’t even understand what was happening 😭😭
Great training video. A couple of criticisms. 1. Why film it in front of a building with glass? Reflections (which you would not see at any field) are an added element that distracts from the point. 2. Having shorts/pants the same colour for both teams is not a realistic scenario either.
Good video, one criticism: The video should have audio, one thing I use as a referee for offsides is I listen for the kick. 20/25
If the ball is kicked 300 meter distance from you you have a delay of a whole second, that means that there is a significant difference depending how close to you it is.

@@tak94zet68 EInstein's relativity works there
@@tak94zet68 How many times is a ball kicked 300 meters? mostly 15 at my level.
@@tak94zet68 boi the pitch is 110×80m, if the ball is 300m away from you it means that you are probably standing in the parking area near the stadium.
1) Why are we doing this from the wrong side?
2) I agree, as a few others have mentioned, no sound is not helpful, I guess you are assuming that at Pro level that we wouldn't be able to hear it across the field, but you should at least give us a chance.
We get taught to never use the sound... Maybe at the grassroots level, but once you try to get any further, never use any sound!
On Clip 19 one of the attackers is offside and one is onside. The pass goes to the left where the attacker was onside. The one who was offside didn't interfere therefore he is passively offside. That's just a bad training video if they don't care for passive and active offside.
I agree with you. The correct answer should be ONSIDE
Totally agreed.
I got most of them right, but that was really hard. Lots of respect for refs who do a hard job with little appreciation.
Really?most of them?are you kidding man?
I try to find AR training video. finally I found it. Thanks for good vedio.

I got 20/25, very good test! We assistant referees who are at lower levels should practice much more with similar tests.
7 negative answers, the rest good. I think I could be an arbiter in Spain.
Clip Number 5 is questionable. You can see the toe of the attacker just ahead of the back heel of the defender in the answer clip.
You should give the information, that the passive offside doesnt matter in your video, because this costed me some points in the end.
Clip 24 is not the same clip 24 shown in the answers.
+Eric Schreiber Yea, looks like they used Clip 1 again. The answer isn't wrong, though, they were onside and the answer says onside, but it is a different clip.

17/25, more importantly, got the last eight in a row correct so got better the longer it went.
13/25 Proud of myself, one day will be up there, god willing.
CLIP 19 - NO OFFSIDE attanking player not runs towards the ball
CLIP 21 - NO OFFSIDE attanking player not runs towards the ball

I feel like some of these freeze frames are taking before the ball is kicked or as it is just touched and not leaving the passers foot yet.

Should have shown the answer right away. Not after all clips
Isnt it 22 offside
This video no sound...
the referee needs a smartwatch with a big 4k screen enough to see the best replay instantly, so the game doesn't lose its flow

Uhh its when the ball is kicked, if they're freezing it after the ball has left the foot clearly that is not that moment
20/25 all them times I've had to run the line in Sunday league cus I'm a sub does have advantages

17 out of 25.... looks like I need glasses....lol
clip 3 was offside.
sixteen good , i need to improve
try with pause and play :'D

20/25
22/25
18/25
All of them were offside, because the rule is second last defender not the last. You don't know anything about Football. So poor.

Too many offsides
Only 2 wrong not bad
I got 17/25 but got 11 out of the last 12 so got better as it went on! Very tough though
19 is not Offside lol this video is absolutely useless
