Great video thanks. My preload adjusters didn't unwind the cap just came off in one but it hasn't effected anything. I also got away without any special tools (insulation tape to drive the fork seals and protect the seals over the bushing recess and drilled an old spanner with 4mm holes and used the drill bits to unwind the top cap) I used 600ml of oil in each fork leg (2010 ktm exc) and forks feels brilliant now 👌
Couple of comments. Lower end thread cap screw. It works better if you start the cap off with the forks still assembled. Only a couple threads. If it hangs up later on... put the fork spring in, push down on it so it bottoms in the tube, and the threaded portion will come off. Snap ring holding the fork oil seal in. One end is notched and will come off. Other end isn't notched and won't come off !
Hi, I'm a Portuguese fan of your channel. Lots of practical technical information, and very well explained. I have a KTM exc 450 from 2005, and I did this oil and seal change operation, without disassembling the fork base, just removed the spring, emptied the oil, cleaned it and filled it with new oil and seals. At the end of one of the forks, the clicker always rotates without stopping. I am going to address this problem but in the meantime I would like some opinion of yours about what I have done wrong, and possible damage that I have to pay attention to. BTW, is there any video of changing the glass oil level check thing on these bikes? I have a smal leak there... Thank you in advance, for your attention. Come to Portugal for an adventure ride, i will show you guys the best trails.
Great vid! Need to service my forks over the winter and would like to DIY it. This vid explains it perfectly. Links to the tools like the fork driver, bullet etc would be great.
Hi, thanks for the video!...which are the benefits of the fork seal grease? does not pollute the internal fork oil?? can we use normal grease or lithium grease?
Thanks so much for the vid! Just wondering if it's necessary to remove the reboundand compression assembly or if it's possible to change seals without taking it out. Thanks!
I know this is old, but I have just rebuilt a set of 2004 forks and they have 3 bushings and a large spacer. I have heard to remove stiction, you have to remove a bushing and the spacer. But which bushing ? The middle one ?
Could you explain to me how to remove the cap from the bottom of the fork and put it back on? I have the fork just like this and I can not remove the bottom cap of vuleltas inside and it does not loosen.
Great video. Lots of great info. It’s damping rod. Not dampening rod. Damping means resistance to movement. Increase compression damping and your increasing resistance to compress. To dampen is to make something wet. Just sayin
Chris King ......I think the video was about fork maintenance, not an English grammar lesson. I guess being ever so perfect makes you feel superior to the rest of us mortals. This was an incredibly useful, instructional video and deserves praise not juvenile criticism or totally unnecessary comments. Go lie down for a long time and give us all a break.
Why do you want to coat the inside of dust seal with grease, wouldn't it smear grease over the inner tube and then catch dust afterward, and also please tell specifically which fork greade do you use
When cycling my damping rod to remove air...on the right rebound side I get nice full stroke damping, while on left compression fork I only get damping fir the first few inches. I gather from other sites that this is normal...can you comment? 2018 250 EXC-F with no preload adjustment.
What steps are necessary if I'm only changing the fork oil? Can I just remove the top spanner cap, dump and refill or do I need to back out all adjusters as per video? Thanks

is it safe to rotate the upper tubes on the forks 90 degrees when the forks are installed on the bike, for example to reorientate the facing of the protective stickers?
Would my 2009 ktm xcw 200 have the same forks? And if so how much oil do I put in them? I can't find this information anywhere and I can't find a shop manuel anywhere that I can buy. Thanks!
Can we use a fork oil level syringe on this style of fork? Would that be more accurate than measuring the oil volume? What would be a recommended oil level?
Is it possible to do a poor man's oil change on these? Open the cap, unscrew and remove the spring, dump the oil, refill the same amount and install the spring back?
Anyone know of a video that shows how to disassemble the forks off a 2014 ktm 300xc? Thought this was it but I don’t have an adjustment on the bottom of my forks just a big Allen bolt

Very nice and helpful video! :-) But I have one question: Do you have to remove the compression dampening fitting and pull the cartridge out, or can you leave it in as well? Does it matter when I am only replacing the fork seals?
Air impact on the compression adjuster? Don't do this. If the cartridge is turning put the spring in and cap on temporarily and compress the fork a bit while tightening the adjuster.
