Man this one was powerful. If anyone really needs a hero, it's someone like Shigaraki. This arc switched the villains to the main characters. In the manga there was even a "My Villain Academia" tag.

This ep was so good, showed Shigaraki’s past in such a good way, he rlly needed somebody to save him after what happened because of his father and this arc rlly did say “Hey, it’s time to root for the League” and was only the beginning of the Ws Shigaraki and them would take

"The house that my father built" is the reason why his quirk was meant to destroy. He wanted to destroy the house his father built and thats why he got that power. The amount of stress definitely add to his quirk power when it awakened.

Amazing episode that really adds depth to the character I feel like this was instrumental in getting people invested in Shiggy. PS I want Redestros quirk so bad!

That's not proven at all it's just people taking a buncha lines outa context. Youve seen this season so you know who put that idea out there... would you trust that guy for stable psychological advice or assessment?! No cause he's literally nuts.
I grew up with people who had nervous ticks like scratching or tapping their wrists together when they were uncomfortable and Tomura is uncomfortable at home probably just a nervous tic or maybe he has eczema like jeez

Its maybe just anxiety cause of how his father was, cause he said it only itched when at home.

@@blakodesu3769 I think it's stress-induced from the father, specifically, not the entire family. A similar example is children from abusive households will have similar issues, and it's because of stress at home. For example, wetting the bed, most children do it, but children from abusive houses usually wet the bed longer than average children from loving households. I've known people who always wet the bed when they are at home, but if they go to other's houses, like for sleepovers they don't wet the bed. Then, as soon as they go home again, it starts up again. They only wet the bed in the environment of their abuse, but as soon as they are in a more positive environment, they are perfectly fine. When Shigaraki's mother is putting the lotion on him he specifies that he only itches when he's at home.

I just realized something. That politician could have became the most powerful dictator in the world if he did his quirk to small amounts of people and no one knew what his quirk was.

Probably been pointed out already, but there was a good deal of censorship this episode compared to the manga. For instance, here Re-Destro breaks Shigaraki's fingers.... but originally, _he ripped them out._ Also, the Shimura family didn't turn to stone when Tenko decayed them. Still, censored or not, Shigaraki's past is a tragic one, indeed.... 😟

    14:40 if they just...
    Man. If his dad....
Like he couldn't tell anyone because in the next moment his dad was confronting him and the family xyz and now he's outside.
BUT if that didn't happen, then in AU it'd be like... He goes inside and talks to his mom like "my hand did a weird thing, and the itching's worse" and someone could've driven him somewhere or just sat around with him til it manifested and been like "oh shit, let's go to the doctor"
18:04 (if someone just noticed that it was when his hands made contact with something...in a utopia someone would notice, tell him to keep his hands up, then figure this out. Though Hana and Mon would be lost. Or everyone but dad
    19:09 (ohh)
19:12 - someone made a comment (that I don't remember well) about his family dying while treating the situation how they always did.
His dog comforting him, his sister trying to save herself, his mom trying to comfort him, his grandparents standing on the sidelines as bystanders, his dad resorting to violence.
I just came straight to this one, so maybe I'll start watching your reactions too
(I remember reading it, and then dreading when I saw the episode title ; same with Good Morning)

    My hero academia fandom logic.
Tomura Shigaraki: A serial killer with no hesitation in murdering children who has shown no remorse or regrett at all.
Fandom: He just needs a hug.
Kotaro Shimura: Slapped his kid like 2 times.
    Fandom: Iredemable trash.

The thing is, Shiggy is viewing everything he does as civil war.
He thinks the innocent people are sheep following a shallow system. In his mind, they do not really understand what hero society is and he has a bit of a point… ofcourse his actions are unforgivable, but at the end of the day he became a radical/extremist only because of his dad and AFO (which is exactly what Deku is saying as well, he can’t forgive him but two things can be true, the other being that Shiggy needs help).
Also he is not alone: 100k likeminded people, who follow Shiggy and AFO, the existence of the CRK and the reasoning behind the stain hype, further make Shiggy believe that he’s doing the right thing. The only thing he thought he was lacking in the beginning was ambition (so ironically it basically was Deku who convinced him that he should be more extreme).
This is also why the LOV dropped the villain label and why shiggy later has that Shonen-hero monologue about „trash raised by a trash society is doing nothing but lying waste“. He wants to destroy the current system and rebuild everything from scratch, erasing people in his way is necessary in his opinion.
Shiggy however cares deeply about his core league members, especially Spinner and tried to protect them, while his father did the opposite and hurt those closest to him, way weaker than him, who needed his protection the most, while at the same time he kept this perfect facade.
Shiggy on the other hand is very transparent with his goals and emotions which is also the reason why the track we hear in this ep, when he decays his family is called „I don’t hurt my friends“.
So it’s not that easy, if you look at it from a psychological point and it’s like Deku said, it’s not all black and white. Shiggy has been a victim of abuse and manipulation for too long and this new Shiggy is the result.
However thanks to his affection for the other League members, his humanity is not yet completely gone.

1st Even if it was only 1 slap it's still abuse. That was all they chose to show the viewer in terms of him laying his hands on Shigaraki. But he abused him in many other ways as well such as starving him and literally leaving him out in the hot sun for hours on end without meals and anything to drink. What he needed was an intervention which no one provided. Instead, they sat by as he abused him for quite a while.
2nd Kotaro, Shigaraki's dad, is Kota if he hadn't been saved by Deku from his immense hatred of Heroes due to what happened in his past. And Shigaraki is literally like Deku if he had grown up in an environment without support. If Shigaraki had a supportive dad who didn't abuse him he would have tried to become a hero. If Deku didn't have his mom and Allmight's support then he would have ended up like Shigaraki. Their characters are literally mirrors of circumstance. They are the same but their environments shaped them into different groups. Shigaraki is also like Eri, his quirk was a mutation, so if he was allowed to try to become a hero he could have found a way to use his quirk in a more helpful way. Because he could also decay the ground and house like in this episode. They maybe could have helped him do more with that instead of with people, just like Eri is doing with Aizawa. Your comment is acting like you didn't just watch the episode you're commenting this underneath.
If Shigaraki hadn't been abused by his father, he wouldn't have turned into a villain, he wanted to literally become a hero. Literally, this ENTIRE backstory was about how kind and compassionate of a person Shigaraki was. He was All Might when they played at school, he involved other children who were being bullied and excluded. He was abused to the point where he sought revenge.
      Spoiler for the next episode:
Then he was literally manipulated by All For One to murder others when he didn't want to. It upset him to the point where he was vomiting, and crying because he didn't want to. But because of the manipulation and the heroes and others again not intervening, he was cast aside into All For One's shadow. It's the same as Kai Chisaki (Overhaul) he took others rejected by society and gave them a purpose. That is why most people followed in his footsteps because everyone else cast them aside.
Shigaraki didn't start off as a serial killer, he was driven to it by his father and then All For One. While his dad Kotaro again was like Kota without heroic intervention to prove his ideations of abandonment wrong. Shigaraki doesn't specifically go after children, Deku is the main exception just because he happens to have the power he wants. All Might was the initial target because he had that specific power. He is going after the power specifically, usually and a child just happens to have it currently so Deku's the target. UA break-in was just to get info on All Might's schedule. The USJ incident was just to get to All Might. Once he was there he only targeted a child to get a message to All Might but they initially weren't the targets. Stain was just to recruit him. Bakugo was just again to recruit him. Chisaki was again just to recruit him. But most incidents with him were to build his numbers while they tried to get One For All. Most of the murders happened but to the other members of The League of Villians, not Shigaraki himself.
Kotaro's mom sacrificed herself to try to keep others safe and he just began hating everything and everyone. To the point where he took it out on his own son. There is a huge difference between abusing your son and being manipulated into murdering others. Obviously, both are bad but most can understand the difference in situations. If his dad hadn't abused him I think he would have definitely tried to become a hero. And if he had intervention before meeting All For One I think he would have only killed his family and no one else on purpose. Unless they intervened before the family incident happened.
