  • San Francisco's Japanese Tea Garden is something special. Along with being the oldest Japanese garden in the country, it carries some of the richest history Golden Gate Park has to offer. Head gardener Steven Pitsenbarger joins us, as he details some of the garden's most beautiful and historic sites.

I always loved that bridge as a child. It's time to go back!

You bring back wonderful memories of my San Francisco years, 1970-1989. I always took visitors to the tea gardens. Thank you so much!

I spent the day there recently painting the beautiful circle bridge, there are so many lovely corners in this garden. I’m excited to return paint more of it.

And the Arboretum across the street is another of the many gems in that gorgeous park. Rock Creek Park in DC and Central Park in NYC have their own beauty and charm, but none [IMVHO] compare to Golden Gste Park.

This is my second time watching the video (I saw it on the other channel earlier today). It's been great both times. I haven't been in ages - I need to go back.
I suppose that discussing the anti-Japanese actions of the San Francisco schools around 1906, an action that led to the Gentlemen's Agreement, would have been too much to include. But The City has a difficult past with regard to racism and I'm sure some would say it's not past but present. I am happy that this garden managed to survive and become the treasure that it is in spite of that problem.

The video is just people talking, not much showing the garden ...

All the more reason, if you can, to go there and be in it yourself. We shouldn't need to see everything on a glowing screen. Mysteries and beauty require effort, to truly appreciate them.
