I was thinking of straight cutting my flax this year too but keep reading horror stories. I run a 7720 with the same header as you, are there any modifications I should do to make things go smoother? What type of knives do you use for flax? Do you decicate or let it ripen naturally? Thanks for your help.

Curé Family Adventures This header was pretty wore out, guards weren’t very and it cut it pretty good. We were also worried about wrapping on the table auger and it never did once. Not like it will sometimes on the pickup headers. Since it was a late harvest that year we let it ripen naturally with the frosts. This year with it looking like a month earlier than before we are going to swath this year probably. To get it to dry down. All depends on how the year is. But the headers did just fine on flax. Had smooth sections I believe. We don’t have much experience in desiccation. One buyer doesn’t want it. But from what we’ve seen the straw tends to wrap combines more when it’s been sprayed. But honestly there was no modifications done for these headers in flax.

@@farm3067 I cant find smooth sections unlesss they are rivet only. Use the 14 tooth sections, the 'fine'. I ended up swathing half of mine so far. Gonna try straight cutting the other half tomorow. The bears really layed the flax down rolliing around in it, so had to swath some. Normally I straight cut with a 924 JD header and 7720, both worn out and has worked ok.
