John Deere 8820 Titan 2 straight cutting Flax
Straight cutting our flax crop from 2018. It stayed standing well through a month of snow and rain and frosts. After that is was desiccated enough for straight cutting. (we usually swath). In previous videos you've seen the chaff blower and the cyclone used. But when we want to spread the chaff, we use the diffuser on the end. It was a one man operation that day, so this was my attempt at running the drone, steering, and watching header height. Slightly distracted! Enjoy!

Allis Tractors and John Deere Balers in Greenfeed

Allis Chalmers 8030 hooked up to a JD 566 baler. And a 7045 Allis tractor hooked to a JD 567 baler equipped with netwrap. Footage was from 2018. That was a very dry spring and summer and just fortunate to have grown what we did on this field.

We had pushed the bush in the winter time and were looking to avoid heavy tillage on this particular piece due to all the buried rocks. This is just pasture ground so we figured we would just direct seed some Alfalfa/ brome grass mix into it. This did a way better job than just broadcasting seed. This is another story of us pulling a piece of equipment out of the bush after it had sat for 20 pl...

The chaff and residue bunches are then grazed during the winter months, this helps reduce costs and better utilize grain land year round . This crop was 4010 forage peas and oats. Massey Harris 90 combine with International WD-9 tractor
Просмотров 90 тыс.6 лет назад
We were fortunate to have gotten all caught up that harvest and actually had some spare time for a project. So we were able to combine some wheat that we had left for the old girl. Commentary creds go to the old man! Then to really get all the old stuff going, we use an International WD-9 tractor to pull the little hopper wagon. Like the video says, we just go the tractor running that summer.

    I was thinking of straight cutting my flax this year too but keep reading horror stories. I run a 7720 with the same header as you, are there any modifications I should do to make things go smoother? What type of knives do you use for flax? Do you decicate or let it ripen naturally? Thanks for your help.

    • @farm3067
      @farm3067 4 года назад

      Curé Family Adventures This header was pretty wore out, guards weren’t very and it cut it pretty good. We were also worried about wrapping on the table auger and it never did once. Not like it will sometimes on the pickup headers. Since it was a late harvest that year we let it ripen naturally with the frosts. This year with it looking like a month earlier than before we are going to swath this year probably. To get it to dry down. All depends on how the year is. But the headers did just fine on flax. Had smooth sections I believe. We don’t have much experience in desiccation. One buyer doesn’t want it. But from what we’ve seen the straw tends to wrap combines more when it’s been sprayed. But honestly there was no modifications done for these headers in flax.

    • @CumminsPowered
      @CumminsPowered 4 года назад

      @@farm3067 I cant find smooth sections unlesss they are rivet only. Use the 14 tooth sections, the 'fine'. I ended up swathing half of mine so far. Gonna try straight cutting the other half tomorow. The bears really layed the flax down rolliing around in it, so had to swath some. Normally I straight cut with a 924 JD header and 7720, both worn out and has worked ok.

      Well in Canada we would get snowed out unless we dessicate, which round up may cause the big c. Seed as early as you can when the crops mature depending on weather leave it down it dries , 5 to 7 days. Hills mature low spots green , this Lets it all get trashed

    My grandpa had one of these back in the 50s as well as a John Deere Clipper. First combines my dad and uncle ever ran as kids. Upgraded to a Massey 410 later on and I believe that was the first combine they had that had a cab of some sort on it. A lot different than the 2388 and pull type 1682 I run today. People say the 1682 is outdated but with the 7140 Magnum running it, it'll keep up with the 2388 easily. Simple and easy to set too. I swath all my crops, so I don't even mind the fact of having a pull type. You in Saskatchewan too?

      We had a 1482 that a snoopy or "anteater" pulled it with and then later on a 1680. The reason it'll keep up to a 2388 is axial rotors. The rotor size really didn't change much (if you were on an 80 series). the pull-types also had more grain capacity than the self-propelled ones. As long as you had the PTO power to feed the pull-types, they'd hammer the product through. Especially for malting barley, nothing comes close to axial-flow. The new stuff though with twin rotors and all the bells and whistles; yah, those are some nice machines. Expensive though... Lang area (N.N.W. of Weyburn)

    That old girl is a beaut. We had one just like that when I was a kid back in the 70s. I can even remember the straight cut kit that came with it. Just drop the pick up and add a batt reel and a few twisty belts and bob's your uncle you could straight cut. Back then my dad would seed wet spots later in the spring when it dried up more. The low spots would be too green to swath so they would be left standing and then cut straight later with the 90 special on straight cut detail. Man the memories that vid brought back. I can't believe that thing still runs - thats a special piece you have there.
