@@ineffablemars I never actually considered this, but you must be right! There are some Beatles stories that were recounted countless times over the years, so it makes sense that there is a vaguely agreed 'official' version comprised of what people are willing to share. From time to time, some additionall info pops up in diffrent interviews, but we will never know the full story. Not only because Paul (in this instance) doesn't want to bare his soul to the world, but allso to protect the memory of the dead and the legacy of the band and its members. It's not a secret that all 4 of the band members kept some of each others secrets even during the major fuding in the 70s. And Paul acts almost as a chief public mourner for John, and no amount of regret or 'what if' thinking would keep that bond going for 43 years if they weren't really getting 'back on track' after the mess of the 70s. Paul serenades John with 'Here Today' still at his every major concertand just a few years ago protested gun violence in New York. And he seems the least interested in reconciling the myth of John with the flawed human being that he was. Yoko never submitted to the narrative of a grief stricken widow, and his sons have very complicated feelings (especially Julian). But anyway, I agree that even if they avoided some topics to keep the peace (like business) it probaby wasn't all pointless small talk about cats and bread. Elvis looked very good in his early career, especially in the 50's when he was young. But then he put on weight. Elvis had everything, he had the style, looks, voice, money.
Pre-Army Elvis was when he earned and deserved his status as The King. But by the 1970s Elvis did not look anywhere near as good as Paul does now. Sadly Elvis not only gained weight but got hooked on pills. And had questionable doctors giving him health advice. Don't forget, by the mid - 1970s there'd already been statins and ACE inhibitors developed for high blood pressure, heart, and cholesterol management. They were still very new medicines but as it turns out 40 years later they worked and still do.
