I remember Sam Newman having a crack at some poor fellow in the audience, shaming him about his missing teeth and the guy put him in his place, saying very emotionally if he had Sam's paypacket he'd fix them. Sam felt bad then, apologised, and offered to pay for the guy's dental work - so he's not all bad.
Sam could dish it out but he could also take it, that's why I always liked him. Unlike many others in the media, they dish it out but can't take it. Rex Hunt being a prime example.
I thought he was just a loose canon, but he actually has feelings, how could his coach's poor decision have him fined more than a year's salary? 🧐 Unfair!
Mark Whacko Jacko Jackson was totally right. The Fans loved Jacko and he turned a boring game into entertainment and dragged people to the game that would not normally go. When Mark Jackson was 18 years old and played at South Fremantle he was one of the main reasons me my schoolmates would go to the games … Deadset legend
In the second clip, the story about the injured player, which pissed off the club 'representative' (the bald one on the right who, incidentally, is a former superstar), turned out to be more than true, because not only did the guy not play that year, he never played again
My uncle was on one of the Cranbourne editions. They loved him so much they invited him on the show a couple of weeks later. I don't know if you remember him, his name was Ray and he was a little guy with a white beard. He asked Sam for a fiver being $5 and when same gave him it, he proceeded to say how about $20. He was an alcoholic but a real character but unfortunately, he passed a decade ago.
That discussion about gambling between those 2 guys was just 1 incident between the same guys. There was another incident between David Schwarz (younger man, player) when he had a cream pie thrown in his face and he stood up and shoved Sam Newman (older man, former player) to the floor live on TV. ruclips.net/video/AO8JMyJFfqo/видео.html I don't know which incident came first, I think the cream pie incident did. The gambling discussion may have been once he (David Schwarz) had retired from the game.
The first guy was John "Sammy" Newman, a 300 game legend in his day and the no.1 draw in footy media for 2 decades. He was a standard deviation in IQ above the saps he worked with, and persistently honest and controversial, which led to a lot of flare ups. The last guy was Mark "Jacko" Jackson, a great goal kicker. Went on to have a starring roll in the Hollywood TV series "The Highwayman" 1987-1988, also had a no.1 hit music record "I'm an Individual", and since then toured as a storyteller throughout Australia. Both were Geelong players.
The video about gambling …when Sam said are you are gambler and David swatztch literally came out and said no the truth was he was a massive gambler and had lost million and millions of dollars and was in massive debts …
Mark 'Jacko' Jackson was well known outside VFL/WAFL at a time when most of us north of the Victorian border had little interest in the code. In addition to his short-lived music 'career', Jacko delighted the Melbourne tabloids by giving them lists of the people he planned to get even with, on or off the field. We had thugs in Rugby League, some of whom confronted players in the carpark, but those boofheads weren't stupid enough to put it in writing.
Thats a comment from a jerk, at least they are famous. But your just another biatch that knows nothing about sport. Best you ask your fkn husband, dear.
You will note a rather common denominator in Sam Newman - who was a rather colourful and controversial figure. People either loved or loathed him, usually the second 😂
@@scupperdog9343 He may be candid in his behaviour, but he doesn't have a filter and is just offensive and thinks it's a good look to be controversial. He always came across as a bit of a tool to me.
@@utha2665 I agree, he had no filter and don't get me wrong he said stuff that made me shake my head. But that's OK because we need people to challenge our thinking and that means being controversial. Without that we simply become mindless drones blinking at a screen in unison.
Sam Newman was a controversial commentator and was never afraid to speak his mind, as you see in these clips, he's not a bad guy but definitely not shy to have his say ! the latest thing I remeber him saying was complaining about the Aboriginal welcome to country before every game, saying he was sick of being welcomed to his own country every week.... at the end there Mark Jacko Jackson was a hard man! no wonder Mike Sheahan was a bit nervous, Jacko might have wacked him.... Jacko did tours of Australian pubs with1 of Australias well known criminals Mark Chopper Read, telling stories about the old days....
The bald guy in the last clip Mark Jackson has come to my work a couple times while I've been working actually a pretty nice guy lol but I was trying not to laugh meeting him thinking about that interview in the back of my head
Sam Newman loves the sound of his own voice. This is old content - at 78, Newman has wound back his media commitments to a podcast. The networks here love anyone ho throws names around during their rants, as long as said networks don't have to pay for the lawyers.
A lot of egos butting heads. Combination of professional sports journalists and retired footballers, all of whom are quite confident about themselves. Some are smarter and/or funnier than others.
If you liked those clips of AFL commentators, you'll love this one from former AFL great Full Forward Jason Dunstall, who has the 2nd most goals in AFL history. Over 1200 I think. He's going nuts on modern goal kickers. ruclips.net/video/G0V_ZOXNnR0/видео.html
Mark "Jacko" Jackson is the AFL version of someone like Vinnie Jones. A no nonsense, straight up hard man. He didn't take sh!t from no one. He was at one point a heavy weight boxer (Wasn't too bad in the ring). You just don't want to ever piss off Jacko.
To give you an idea, the silver spoon Geelong Grammar John "Sam" Newman called public transport workers "vole" (small rodents) for going on strike with the 1997 Grand Prix, to protect their superannuation and working conditions. These were under serious threat from the aggressive Kennett state government. But of course Kennett's (generous) parliamentary superannuation was not discussed. The workers won in the end, by the way.
What I notice about this is they are looking professional wearing ties, looking classy, unlike today, where they all look shabbily dressed and very ordinary. It's all gone down hill. Sam Newman can still be heard on his podcast.
Regarding the 4th clip, with Sam yet again, it was revealed not too long after this that the other bloke, David Schwarz, had a MASSIVE gambling problem, and had lost up to 5 millions bucks!
Regarding the betting….all hypocrisy now when you see all the betting ads around the grounds and in ad breaks. Has Sam Newman changed his attitude towards sports betting since? The TV networks rely upon them for revenue.
Thanks Matt. I've moved from Victoria to NSW, and hence, from AFL to NRL The 'Footy Show' is full of businessmen, all looking after themselves, never liked it. Sam Newman is a revolting individual. 🇦🇺
I got a kinda boring story: when I was in grade prep Robbie Flower’s wife was a grade 2 teacher at my school and I remember kids would bug her when she was on yard duty and ask her for Robbie’s autograph!
Sammy is a legend, Gary was a bit of a wanker back then. The topic they were on ended up with 75% of the senior list being suspended, in some cases for years.. This doen't happen anymore. They have "cleaned it up". Mores the pity

Sam's a legend
To be fair, the guy looked like his tongue was in prison

Sam could dish it out but he could also take it, that's why I always liked him. Unlike many others in the media, they dish it out but can't take it. Rex Hunt being a prime example.
Absolutely, Sam was awesome and didn’t mind telling it as it should be told, not full of shit.
Man I loved you in Taken, and I must say you are looking GOOD for someone in their 70s! Subbed
I grew up watching the ol Foss he's the GOAT of Aussie TV.
Sam's a bloody legend.
lol he really isn't, a senile old cunt that knows nothing about the game past 1970
Gotta love Jacko.. he's an indi-bloody-vidual.

The street talks were hilarious.
Sam Newman is always correct, that is the rule. History has proved him correct in every single one of these examples.

Billy Brownless was also there - another former Geelong player
Mark Jacko Jackson = Mal Meningas punching bag
I wonder if Lyon was snaking Billy's missus back then.. Poor Billy, very funny man.
David Schwarz had a gambling addiction at the time.
Yes he did.
5:22 "Fried rice across the room" is my favourite part
So funny, I’d forgotten about these footy interviews. I don’t know whether they’d get away with this sort of talk today.😂😂😂
Sammy Newman Street talk in Daylesford is a must !!
typical Sat night entertainment for us
Thursday night for 'The Footy Show".
Sam Newman is an absolute legend and truth teller. That’s why he was canceled
The video about gambling …when Sam said are you are gambler and David swatztch literally came out and said no the truth was he was a massive gambler and had lost million and millions of dollars and was in massive debts …
I remember seeing/hearing most of these live 🤭
Sam calling Billy fat is nothing its his nickname the Fat man 😂
AFL Football used to be like a religion in Melbourne. Catholic v Protestant stuff!
Sam Newman to be honest is one of a kind. he is still around but retired in his later 70s. But he has 20 years of funny stuff
"Retired" unemployable racist has been cancelled by the right more like
Jacko actually had a bit of a career in Hollywood and a hit song here in Australia, probably no other Australian footballer has done those things
Jacko and Sam Newman are the sole reasons i watch any VFL/AFL videos.. 😂😂😂
Every day chat in Aus.🤣we all talk to each other like this🤣
just remember,, an Aussie WILL TELL YOU OFF

The mentality of professional football and journalism.
The older guy in the first bit, Sam Newman (real name John), has a long-running podcast called You Cannot Be Serious.
Jacko had the persona of a psycho,
as earned,
but was always honest
& himself,
and had a great turn of phrase.
God on mate You have thousands of dinkum Australians supporting you. ❤

Sam Newman (a retired player and current controversial commentator) CARES for AFL PLAYERS.

Sam is no bs.. real dude
Best blow up of all time has to be Rex starting a fight with a smoker in the crowd, it’s not in this though
Really miss this type of reporting in Australia. Sadly it no longer exist. Certainly less popcorn moments these days.
A lot of egos butting heads. Combination of professional sports journalists and retired footballers, all of whom are quite confident about themselves.

Sam has been run over by two different ex partners. People’s reactions to him are why he’s a survivor among other reasons.
That's a shame about Rex and Sam they used to be such a big part of my youth listening to 3AW.
This makes me proud to be Aussie 😂
Imagine these guys sledging Johnny sexton, they would reduce him to a blubbering mess.
@Mstv ruclips.net/video/AO8JMyJFfqo/видео.html Context for the gambling conversation, these two have history. :)
I love Sam Newman. He was controversial , but HONEST. and he took as well as he got. 😊
He lied through his teeth, the old ducks loved him

Street talk is a must !! Sammy Newman found the biggest muppets in Oz
usually deep in the Burbs of Melbourne
I reckon that Freo Street talk was one of the wildest ( with those ' ladies ' fighting )
