Beverly was part of my life since Lloyd Rigler and Larry Deutsch brought the NYCO to LA at the Shrine Auditorium for many years. I had dinner with her and Julius Rudel where he deaf daughter came out and Beverly sang ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ and Muffy sang along. I also was in Milano when she debuted at La Scala and thanks to Marilyn Horne I dined with her at Biffi La Scala many times. My fave story is when I marveled at Nonie Phipps Schippers’ big diamond. Nonie said it’s from David Webb, a fake, and Beverly said, waving her hand, \”mine’s Cartier and it’s paid for”.

I have never heard about her and learned her death via Forum Opera. Do you know her ? You can find some videos about her on yt.

I'm probably going to be the sole naysayer -- this performance is a waste of her wondrous gifts. Much of the ornamentation is just so much crowd-pleasing pyrotechnics. There are a few bars where she isnt even trying to sing words. Aside from the fact that they are appropriating an aria from Giulio Cesare ("Venere bella") w/o much justification. Also the overfast tempo vitiates the natural energy of the piece. But I console myself w/ memories of her live performance of "Softly sweet in Lydian measures" (Alexander's Feast).

Yes, ‘Venera bella’, inserted in the ‘Ariodante’ score for this 1971 production, most probably because Ginevra has no ‘happy’ aria in the final act 🙃

Not really.....much more long line..."through composed "....but, some wonderful phrases/phrasing....and some LOVELY pure high notes
I heard this aria when I saw Julius Caesar in London a long time ago Sills is delicious here. What an easy sweet coloratura she had. Brava👏
