I know you normally don't pay much attention to lyrics, but the lyrics by Rise Against are REALLY something. I've always admired how articulate and poetic the lyrics of their songs are....worth noting.
Second this 100%. Make It Stop (September's Children) Roadside Architects Swing Life Away So many other fantastic songs with direct messages about the world we live in, and how we handle it/don't handle it.
"Give It All" from the same album is the track that got me into Rise Against and that was purely due to its usage in Need For Speed Underground 2. I've loved them since. Their first album, "The Unravelling" is raw and just incredible. Great video
More Rise Against please! Love them. This album and The Sufferer & The Witness are flashbacks to my high school years. I'm 32 now and still want to get lyrics "how we survive is what makes us who we are" from Survive on me ❤
Dude, extremely unexpected vid from you. I've listened to Rise Against probably like 50000 hours, no joke. Love their old stuff, Tim is one of the best songwriters on earth, his passion, the rawness it's insane man. Thanks for reacting to it If you were to listen to them again try Heaven knows or My life inside your heart And i'm still here. :)
The fact that you use high quality cuts of these songs does not go unnoticed. Gracias, sir., Also, I'm leaving a bunch of comments on a bunch of videos. That's intentional. RUclips algorithm.
Still Here, and the track Injection is a personal favorite of theirs. The Good Left unDone is a heart breaker too. Tim's Voice is equal parts fury, heartbreak, and sorrow. He has the reality of emotional commitment that is so rare these days.
I'm still here! This was a special one for me, Rise Against was one of my first favourite bands as a youngin. I hadn't listened to this song in well over a decade, until now! Might have to binge the discography this week...
One of my all time favourite albums from one of my all time favourite bands! Love Rise Against, been listening to them for nearly 20 years at this point!
I'm still here, and I could recommend any song off of this album, like Swing Life Away, Paper Wings, Blood to Bleed, Give it All, or Rumors of my Demise have Been Greatly Exaggerated. Also their album The Sufferer and the Witness has a lot of great songs too, like Intro/Chamber the Cartridge, Injection, The Good Left Undone and Prayer of the Refugee.
Black masks and Gasoline, i remember hearing it for the first time and being hooked immediately. Its the reason why Rise Against is and will always be my favourite band.
Holy crap one of the best bands out there. Thank you!! They have a really killer catalogue and so many of their videos really tell important stories. Make it stop and prayer for the refugee are impactful. Re-education through labor or Endgame are powerful.
Good morning from New England...Man this was way different than I expected..That chorus is sooo catchy I'm not sure the history of this band but this has a distinctive 90's sound..Either way I'm going to add this to my drum Playlist when I practice..Peace from the Northeast..
Rise against has a ridiculous amount of fun (albeit mostly fast) drum tracks. Definitely check out more of them. Their older album “The Unraveling” has some unique drum tracks on it
Rise Against is hands down my favorite band of all time. I discovered them from my brother, and to this day I still know every word to an overwhelming majority of their discography.
Like others have noted, this was a huge surprise. Rise against has been my favorite band since early college. I know they’re not technically the most sound band of all time but I think you captured what they’re about really well. They’re a bit punk but they’re their own thing. Pretty much any song from their first 6 albums is great. They’re more recent albums aren’t bad but it’s generally softer and stuff we’ve already heard in my opinion. Some favorite songs: Give it All, Broken Mirrors, Disparity by Design, Survivor Guilt, Architects, Behind Closed Doors, Survive, Torches, Satellite , etc etc. hard to go wrong. (Also I’m still here)
It has something man! always wondered what was about rise against and then... Geebz explains genres of music and adds to the decompose thing... one single phrase can do it well ... if someone does not get what am saying go here from 4:20 to 6:30 min ... great stuff Geebz!!! Ahola!
YES!! So happy you are doing Rise Against, they are undefeated in melodic hardcore and have been such an influential band on me personally. Would love for you to react to a lot more punk/hardcore!
This album is one of those where I can listen to front to back to front again. .. And repeat. Some of the most agressive, lyrically lethal punk, but every member gets to shine in their own way. Some of the greatest bass lines ive heard from any band in pop/punk, ive heard. Period..
wow this is very unexpected! One of my favorite songs by this band and on their best album IMO next to the following one. Personally they went downhill after this as far as what I found interesting about them. RPM, Siren Song, and Sufferer and the Witness are their peak albums all done in a row. After that they mellowed out a lot more and I believe lost one of the main writers in the band. They are still very successful as far as commercially which I am still glad for, but it will never be the same as it was when I first found them in my high school days.
If you're interested in listening to more Rise Against, then listen to Rise Against - Make It Stop (September's Children). The music video is very moving.
I'm still here o/ I remember listening to this album for the first time when it had just been released. I was sitting on a coach on a school trip (trying to keep my CD player steady so the sound didn't skip lol) and ignoring everything going on around me because every single track was just blowing me away. So great to see this one being enjoyed for the first time again, all these years later.
I was so glad to see this, and even more excited that it was from Siren song. This is one of my favorite albums of all time, and they are one of the best live bands I've ever seen. First time i saw them was in 2003/2004 in chicago(where they are from) and I will still see them anytime. not a fan of their new stuff but still one of the best live punk/hardcore bands
Holy shit i haven't heard this song in maybe 14 years and just randomly looked up rise against reactions and i was singing along without knowing the words somehow
This took me straight back to high school. This song still hits real hard. Their song "The Good Left Undone" also gets me right in the feels as the kids say.
Nice to see some Rise Against on the channel. They have been my favorite band for over 15 years! I really appreciate that you are starting out with Siren Song and not the top song on the album either. In addition to the lyrics (other people have talked about how good Tim's lyrics are) I have always liked them because they like to change up the time in their songs, as you mentioned near the end. Their songs always have a nice ebb and flow to them, which I rarely see in other bands. Their biggest hits that would be interesting to listen to would be Savior, Prayer for the Refugee, The Good Left Undone, or Satellite. Siren Song is often thought of as their last "Punk" album and there tends to be fans of the first three albums and fans of the rest. Their sound has shifted a lot over the years and it might be interesting to listen to a song off their latest album to compare against. Their single off their new album, Nowhere Generation, is great and very different from their "punk roots".
Soo stoked that you're dipping into some punk! One of my fave albums by this band!! Now you gotta do some Propagandhi (failed imagineer or adventures in zoochosis), Anti-Flag (without end or war sucks let's party), NoFX (separation of church and skate or linoleum), or Strung Out (rebellion of the snakes). And they're not really punk, but if you wanna hear great musicianship and get into some lyrics, should do cigarettes and saints by The Wonder Years. Love the channel, keep em coming, I'm still here!
Geebz, would love your take on something from Pure Reason Revolution. Anything from The Dark Third album would be great but my suggestion is "The Twyncyn / Trembling Willows"
Every song on this album is killer. Give it all and swing life away have videos as they are the singles. Personal fave is the last track, rumors of my life have been greatly exaggerated
Siren Song of the Counter Culture, and The Sufferer and the Witness are two of my favourite albums of ALL time, out of any bands. I've seen them live multiple times, and they'll always have a place in my top 5 favourite bands.
@@posesepulu3771 I think that Siren Song to Endgame was an amazing run of Albums and their best by quite a bit ( I have a hard time picking between them). I feel like they slumped a bit on Black Market and Wolves but there are still songs off of both that I love (Tragedy + Time, Black Market, House on Fire, Politics of Love, Mourning in Amerika). I think they did really well with Nowhere Generation, calling back to "their roots" while still maintaining the evolution of their sound. I have been listening to it quite a bit and can't wait to see them next week in Cinci.
I love this album, if you want to do a bit of a combo video, maybe try “the good left undone” and “survive” combo video. These flow into each other and the sufferer and the witness album is one of my favs!!!
I love that you're reacting to Rise Against! Most of their albums have production that reflects the same more organic sound that you talk about. You should definitely check out the song "State of The Union" for a killer guitar riff.
Still here! Another great videos sir. I cannot say enough about the transitions between songs on Rise Against albums. I would highly recommend a listen to just a couple songs in order off an album ( The opening tracks on the 'Sufferer and the Witness' flow SUPER well) Love the Chanel (probably wind up a patreon) (Weakerthans, Alexisonfire, and Protest the Hero..... yeah I'm from Canada...)
Nice Geebz! I love Rise Against. They probably did multiple tracks on vocals in parts for the recording but I’ve seen Rise Against live and Tim has this uncanny ability to add a growl underneath his clean vocal sound. I have no idea how he does it. “Ready to fall” is a good one to check out. 😀
I just found your channel a couple days ago and I'm LOVING it. This album is the album I got started on and I always have trouble trying to recommend songs to listen to by bands like Rise Against, System of a Down, Disturbed, etc. Because they're all so good. These are some I'd love to see though: Torches The First Drop Anywhere But Here Satellite Blood To Bleed The Good Left Undone Bricks Survive Like The Angel A Gentleman's Coup Rumors of My Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated Black Masks and Gasoline Blood Red, White, and Blue Halfway There Heaven Knows Survivor Guilt I'm gonna cut it short cause that's already quite a list, and I'm sure others will have something to contribute, but they have quite a catalog and they're easily one of my favorite bands.
Love RA. They feel like the split-genre of bands like The Offspring. Just saw them again with Thrice and The Deftones a few years back and sound as good as ever.
This album (Siren Song of the Counter Culture) and the one that followed (The Sufferer & the Witness) are classics, as well as being the peak of this band. One of their guitarists left after Sufferer, which is (imo) what made the difference; this version of the band's lineup was the best. Both albums are full of banger after banger though, highly recommend continuing to check out songs from either album. 'Give it All', 'Prayer of the Refugee', 'The First Drop', 'Paper Wings', 'Injection'... the list goes on. 'State of the Union' is almost uncharacteristically heavy for them, borderline metal track on a punk record, it's awesome. Would love to see more Rise Against on this channel.
Didn't expect to see Rise Against on this channel, great analysis. I love these guys and would love to see more reaction vids, Tim is one of my favorite vocalists of this and similar genres. I'd recommend, Rumors Of My Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated, Survive, Worth Dying For, Give It All, State of the Union, or really anything off Siren Song.
Oh man i seriously hope ytou're about to put some of your due diligence into punk!!! And since (as you noted) punk songs tend to be so short, your new format of multiple songs per episode would be a GREAT way to cover several short songs in one go! Here's a few to get you started NoFX - The Idiots Are Taking Over / Anarchy Camp Pennywise - Fuck Authority / Date With Destiny Millencolin - Sense and Sensability Fugazi - Waiting Room No Use For A Name - Justified Black Eye One song gets it's own recommendation, even though the band is mentioned above. If there is one punk opus that can be considered 'epic', it's NoFX's The Decline. I don't think you'll find anyone who will argue that point :)
I know you normally don't pay much attention to lyrics, but the lyrics by Rise Against are REALLY something. I've always admired how articulate and poetic the lyrics of their songs are....worth noting.

Make It Stop (September's Children)

Swing Life Away
So many other fantastic songs with direct messages about the world we live in, and how we handle it/don't handle it.
It’s definitely the type of lyrics he will appreciate too based on his reaction to Amazonia by Gojira.
Punk rock in general, but bands like Rise Against specifically, the lyrics are an integral part of the music.
Another one of those bands like Rage or SOAD that makes me cry when, decades later, the lyrics are still relevant
"Give It All" from the same album is the track that got me into Rise Against and that was purely due to its usage in Need For Speed Underground 2. I've loved them since.
Their first album, "The Unravelling" is raw and just incredible. Great video
That whole album is proof they deserve the success they've achieved. It's near perfect punk if I've ever heard
More Rise Against please! Love them. This album and The Sufferer & The Witness are flashbacks to my high school years. I'm 32 now and still want to get lyrics "how we survive is what makes us who we are" from Survive on me ❤
That's a pretty good album but I think 'Appeal to Reason' and 'Siren Song of the Counter Culture' tops them.

Heaven knows... Survive is another great song. And People live here.
Yea their old stuff is so fkn good. Reception Fades and Generation Lost are some of my favs

That entire album is awesome!!
The singer has such a unique voice!

His voice in Hero of War is amazing

So awesome, love this band and your breakdown. Check out "Re-education Through Labor" such a sick song. Thank you
Saw this concert in Ottawa a week b4 I got married with my now wife in P.E.I.! What a trip! Great memories

This is truly one of my all time favorite albums. This and the next one, The Sufferer and the Witness. Both absolutely perfect albums.
This is what they call a deep cut lmao, first band I ever saw when I was 15.

Rise Against was the first band that really got me into this genre. Such a great band and great live performers!
You've dipped your toes in the punk rabbit hole, you have a history of metal reactions... now I'm holding my breath for some hardcore.
One of my all time favourite albums from one of my all time favourite bands! Love Rise Against, been listening to them for nearly 20 years at this point!

Not a bad song. Everchanging, from their first album, was a life changing song for me.
The regular and the accoustic versions are chilling
It was Last Chance Blueprint from RPM for me

A really interesting Rise Against song you might like to try in the future is Survive, some nice changes in feel and space in that one.

This is my favorite Rise Against song, but they never disappoint. Their newest album hits just as hard as their stuff from the mid 2000s.
