  • The lovely innards of a Salton Ice Maker making ice in real-time. While fixing this machine I decided to video tape it in action before closing it up.
    Way more exciting than watching paint dry! Please enjoy your next 10 minutes :)

    As an ice eater this video was so satisfying to watch. I love igloo ice...especially when they're made with carbonated water.

      "As an ice eater" is a beginning to a sentence that should automatically disqualify your opinion

    How does the refrigerant flow into all the seperate pins?
    1. Is the refrigerant pumped into the big pipe and the pins are just connected with the pipe en coolant flow into the pins?
    2. Or are there seperate pipes in the big pipe, the seperate pipes are small and goes through all the pins?
    3. Or is it something else?
    I'm so facsinated by this machine. I have one myself and always wondered how the refrigerant goes through all these pins. I'm looking forward for your reaction :)

    nice! i wonder if the metal pipe is just a steel or some kind of special alloy to go very low temperature

      Its just aluminum

      Aluminum has a ridiculously efficient thermal exchange rate!

    Are those rods safe they look discolored like mine? I was going to throw my ice maker away

    • @Sciencenme
      @Sciencenme  Год назад

      Yeah, the plating (tin maybe?) was peeling off mine. So if you see metal shards on the concave side of your ice, toss away the machine.

    Please, how do I clean behind the pipes, I can see some brown - could it be mold 😩😩😩

    • @Sciencenme
      @Sciencenme  2 года назад +1

      Unscrew the back cover which will reveal the screws for the lid. The brown could be the chrome plating falling off! The pipes are made of copper which corrode easily.

      @@Sciencenme is that safe because this looks exactly like the inside of my ice maker all the chrome come off

    I don't understand why this water is frozen only near the metal, shouldn't it be freezing same in all places? Water transfer temperature very well so it should be like I said

    • @MaxingMix
      @MaxingMix 3 года назад

      apparently not transfer well enough

    • @starstencahl8985
      @starstencahl8985 3 года назад

      It needs a point to start forming ice crystals. If you would cool it long enough, of course the whole tray would freeze up

    • @sheeesh5937
      @sheeesh5937 3 года назад

      Water is an insulator it doesn’t transfer temperature well

    10 minutes for just 8 ice cubes?

    • @TheSmurf854
      @TheSmurf854 5 лет назад +9

      It’s still way faster than old fashioned ice trays in a freezer. That can take more than half an hour.
