  • After a very enjoyable start to India, it's time to leave for Nepal. The drive to the border from Sohra (Cherrapunjee) is 640km and a further 450km to Kathmandu, all of which we plan to do over 4 days.
Our first night in Nepal we arrived (quite late) to our first camp spot which was by a beautiful river. We'd been excited to get to Nepal and find spots like this so we were feeling pretty happy to say the least. We cooked up a delicious breaky (cereal) and a strong coffee, and just sat back for 30 mins to take it all in before we kept driving to Kathmandu.
We had a couple of days in Kathmandu catching up on some editing, recording a podcast for GHT Overland (which you can listen to here: ghtoverland.co... ), and also on the usual chores like laundry and cleaning before our visitor arrived.
Mitch (Mark's brother) is back for his third visit since we've been on the trip. This time would be a little different though as we weren't going to be spending the majority of his time travelling in the Troopy. Instead, we'd be doing the 'Three Passes Trek' in the Everest region, plus another week trek to and from where we leave the car, a total of 4 weeks completing about 250km on foot.
After acquiring all of our gear for the trek in Thamel, we hit the road and started making our way to Salleri, a small village in the mountains where we planned to leave the Troopy.
Leaving Kathmandu we didn't get away until midday to start the 8 hour drive to Salleri. As we didn't want to drive in the dark we followed some tracks down to the river about half way and found a pretty epic spot for the night before continuing on the next morning.
That's a wrap for this episode! Thanks for watching! In the next episode we’ll be changing our means of travel and embarking on the "Three Passes Trek".

I was waiting for this episode. I met Mitch in a hostel in Bangkok just before you folks met up in Nepal I'm pretty sure. Would have been October 2018 I reckon. He put me onto your channel/insta and I'm only getting through it now :)

Wow, that was a while ago now! If you met Mitch in a Bangkok hostel no doubt he was on fine form. 😂 Cheers for getting through it though, few episodes now since this one of some pretty epic places.

You are on an amazing journey. Wish you all the best. However, you seem to have just touched a miniscule part of the northeast which has very many very unique sights and cultural diversities. And frankly, you should have entered the Manas National Park which is very scenic, particularly the river that passes through the park. You could have also entered a Bhutan through the park and spend a short time there and check out the hanging bridge at Panbang.

Thanks ☺️ Yes it would of been good to go into Manas NP though when we were there most of it was still closed after the rainy season so we decided to give it a miss. There’s still a lot of the NE that we want to see, so there’s always next time!

Didn't you go through Kakarvita checkpoint when entering Nepal? That is one of the strictest checkpoints.

Cheers 👍🏼 we had them made by an old guy in Perth who had the mould. We paid half the price than the ARB ones though I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through the pain of dealing with him!

Wow, you guys unknowingly showed some of the illegal sand mining that's a multi billion dollar industry at 3:55. Do a google search for "sand mafia india" and you'll see what I mean. I watched a Vice episode about it a few weeks ago. Great video as usual, have fun and be safe on your trek!

Wow! We had no idea, they all look so smiley! I had a quick read about the “sand mafia” and it’s pretty crazy what’s going on! I’ll have to check out the documentary.
      Cheers Tex 👍🏼 J
