I am laying on the floor laughing and crying (because of too much laughing) 😅😅😅😅😅 I remember the time when I asked you if you've seen this or that Tim Holtz live. You always - ALWAYS - said: "mimimi.... they are sooooo long, I don't have the time to watch all of that stuff!" And TODAY - with this video - is the day where finally came true what I always thought... There'll come the day she'll get obsessed with it 😊😅❤
I love Tim but rarely have that much time to dedicate to one video. Also, I work like you do and I’m happy to know that. I’ve always doubted my artistic ability because I’m unable to make a plan and stick to it. I’m a subscriber and big fan of your videos!
I made a journal for my brother's 60th a couple of years ago. It was my idea to get his co-workers and friends to say what they admired the most about my brother. For me, gathering that information was more important than the cover. He was deeply touched by the things they said about him, and I learned things about my brother I never realized, so it turned into a project that was meaningful to me as well.
Hi Barbara, I’m sitting here thinking if that were my book and flipping through it reading something about me from family and friends and having a specially made cover is the best gift he will get. You’re doing a fantastic job. Wow! Love ya.
Barbara, this is turning out so cool. I made scrapbooks back in the day. I always used copies of my own pictures for gifts to niece and nephew. Then my sister in law asked me to make one for her son and she gave me a bunch of pictures but nothing to know what the pictures were. I was so nervous making that book. TFS! ❤️
Barbara, thank you for sharing your video of your brother's birthday journal. I am so excited to see the next step. I made a journal for my brother which included photos of our family. We did not grow up together. When our mom passed away, I was 7 and he was 6 months old. He went with his father and I went with my grandmother. He was so happy to get his birthday journal with our mom's photos and the rest of his aunts and uncles and cousins. Again, thank you for sharing 💖
I also watched the Tim Holtz new products video with all the glorious examples by the makers. It's like an inspiration overload! I was dumbstruck by some of the designs. Really worth watching. ❤
Thanks, Barbara! This is a good length for a video. I always enjoyed your little “snack” videos. In this project, I like the mustard colors and the vine-y stencil. It looks great for a man’s book. 🧡🧡🧡
I totally understand what you’re experiencing. My nieces husband asked me to do a memory journal for my niece for Xmas a couple of years ago. It took forever, I too was using a ton of family photos and memorabilia, It’s stressful and fun at the same time. This is going to turn out great Barbara. And I’m sure it’s like a walk down memory lane for you as you’re putting it all together. ❤️
This is gonna be SUCH a treasured keepsake! And yeah, I always decorate the back covers too - maybe not as elaborate as the front, but ALWAYS something! Hugs angel 😇, MomK. 🤗❤️🌵❤️🤗
Oh, Barbara, thank you so much for sharing this with us! I've been struggling for about 10 months trying to figure out how to make something similar for my siblings. Right before my momma passed last September, she asked me to collect her recipes and make a book for my siblings and son so that they would know how to cook our favorite foods that we were raised on. I don't want to just copy the recipes in there , I want to include pics and memories so that they will cherish the books. They're all expecting something pretty great, and I don't want to disappoint them but had no clue where to start. I've only made 1 journal before, but they think I can do anything, so I want it to be nice. So, thank you for this! It's exactly the kind of ideas I need! TFS 😊
Beautiful Barbara 😍 it's going to be a gem...your brother is going to love it❤...my one friend is celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in June and I'm thinking of making them a Journal. Your cover process has enspired me ao much that I'm thinking of doing something similar for them. We've been friends for as long as they've been married and my husband and i are celebrating our 50th next year in April 🎉❤
Barbara: it is looking fabulous! I really like the idea of cover on cover to enlarge the book. It is looking so masculine already. This project has my attention. He is going to be speechless when he sees it. WOW! Carol from California
I made two memory books for my parents 40th anniversary this year, one for my mom and one for my dad. It was so much work, just gathering the photos from my brothers, grouping things together and then designing and creating the books. But it was worth all the struggles because they really cherished them and everyone had so much fun looking at the old photos ❤
Barbara! I’m so glad you are doing a memory book. I have been watching some videos on how to make one. I want to make a memory book for my trips to Mexico. I think I’m going to learn a lot from you. ❤😊
In one instance, my oldest and dearest friend asked me to make a New York themed journal for her, giving me Carte Blanche to use her personal memorabilia collected over a lifetime. I was so intimidated, it took me 2 years to complete. Although, from start to finish, once my inspiration came, I made it in two weeks. She wound up loving it although her son did comment that he’d never seen anything like it- lol not sure how he meant that! In another instance my daughter asked me to use her collected travel ephemera as a memento of a hallmark birthday. I completed it inside of a week.
Hi Barbara! I love that color that you chose, it matched the smaller cover so well. And that stenciling was beautiful. Love how the covers came together.
Beautiful covers, such a vibrant colour, yet grungy to vintage. Will be an amazing book, don't worry, everything will be in its place at the end. Because besides papers and paints or photographs, the love of your family and friends is involved. Try a fake cover (by copying this one in colour) to have some orientation, with the biggest bronze rings - i think they have 5 cm in diameter - because the book will be heavy with so much inside. All the letters can be easily removed and read, more can be added anytime, and will lay flat - a great conversation point in any room. And if you really want to look like a book on a bookshelf, you can do a folio cover, from cardboard, to be encased in.
You are always so inspiring! I just love how you enlarged this book. I actually like it better than the book alone. You have such an amazing mind. This is a beautiful keepsake and I am sure your brother will cherish it dearly. All the pressure that you put on yourself will be worth it, and your brother will be ecstatic that you created just for him. Hugs ❤️🤗
I love how your cover is coming along and cant wait to see the finished product. I understand about keeping photos and messages private but i really hope that you can share how you deal with them. I am especially interested in how uoy treat the two sided memories. Your brother will treasure this book! Meg
Very creative way to enlarge the cover! Love it! I too have to just get started before I see the bigger picture...it seems as I work the creativity starts to flow...you are the best!!
Wow I think that cover turned out magnificent!! I love your bravery and trying something new on the cover.. I need to work on that in my journal making!
I know that terror of making a JJ gift for someone. To me, a journal is such a personal thing, I"m actually not a big fan of receiving blank ones as gifts. I haven't been JJ very long, and I made one for my Mom using her favorite color and our upcoming cruise to Alaska as inspiration. I used several of your kits in it! I was so worried she wouldn't like it, or just be, "cute, thanks." But she loved it! I really like the cover on cover idea and the texture paste shapes, going to have to try that on an upcoming journal. Thanks for sharing all you creativity with us!
Beautiful cover ❤ to bind the letters, coptic stitch would be perfect, plus it would be perfect for marrying the old and the modern, to continue the theme. I may have to watch a TH live now 😂
Ooh yes, the memory book! Always more pressure when it's for a gift 🙈. At one point all I did was make memory books for gifts, I've since taken the pressure off myself! The second cover looks green on camera. I totally get 'project resistance ' and feeling bad about it 🙈 even when I overplan. I can't watch Tim, I always lust after everything same with stamperia🙊. 😄 GLAZE! You can put your stencil back on, dab, add powder then remove before heating 👍. Looking fab already sweetie, that's a gorgeous stencil😍 I have faith in you 🤗. Tfs and have a great day 💖💖💖
LOVE LOVE LOVE this 💖💕💖 it looks absolutely amazing!! I'm putting together a family book and am inspired to create a grundge junk journal type. Thank you so much for sharing your process!!!
Wow, that is one beast of a project sweetie ❤❤❤ but im sure it will turn out gorgeously if the cover is the measure for that 😊 I hope you figured out some solutions for the challenges in the mean time
Oh barbara you kill me ure funny n yie dont even know it , i love the cover dont worry it always turns out okay in the end 🖐️😘 i know what you mean about the tim holtz videos yoe feel as if your heads about to blow 😜😵💫🥰 altho we love it we can only take it in parts some of these are very cool but we cant be watching screens for hours we would rather be covered in paint or glue are you writing it all down Barbara 🖐️😜😝😝 luv yie hen at least yie didnt say OhNo this time well done hunnie xx🖐️😜💜💜🤗🤗🙏🙏🏴
Ah yes - the pressure we put on ourselves to create something & we only see the flaws in the end whereas the other people only see the creation as a whole (but we never believe them). I made a 60th wedding anniversary memory book for my parents & created little figurines of my parents from photos of their wedding day, trying to make miniature copies of their dress/suit, flowers & them looking 60 years younger. Then I attached them to the cover (running out of time by that stage because I always think things will take less time than they do because of that highly irritating perfectionism) and realised that the figurines would be damaged every time they opened the cover. I ended up using two wooden dowels on top of each other to build a frame around them high enough to protect their figurines & managed to get them in the post just in time. Of course I still only see the flaws (sigh) but they were really happy with it & even though they haven't actually written all the lovely memories I was hoping to read one day, the keep it on display. So the moral to the story is - enjoy the creating - it already looks beautiful. And focus on the love you put into it, not the flaws
Im thinking of purchasing some of those glazes, but I'm scared to waste money (because Ranger products are quite expensive where I live). I'm not too crazy about glossy things. Do you think it adds real value to your projects and is it worth it, to you? Sorry, I know it's difficult to answer because we live in different circumstances, but can you please give me an idea from your perspective? Oh, and which colour is the closest to gold? (I have the inks, but the glazes don't look the same.)❤ Can anyone give me an opinion on this?🙏🙏
I would only get 1 -2 and see if you actually use them. I also only have a few. I’m usually not a fan of glossy, but sometimes they add cool accents. Not sure which is the closest to gold though.
Your brother is going to love this book - even more especially because you made it yourself! Lucky brother!
I like seeing your testing process and hearing the voiceover that you do after the fact explaining your thought process. It turned out beautiful!
I am laying on the floor laughing and crying (because of too much laughing) 😅😅😅😅😅 I remember the time when I asked you if you've seen this or that Tim Holtz live. I still think they are too long, but they do have tons of inspiration! 😊
I thought the same thing Luise! Tim’s videos are so invaluable.
I love Tim but rarely have that much time to dedicate to one video. Also, I work like you do and I’m happy to know that. I’ve always doubted my artistic ability because I’m unable to make a plan and stick to it. I’m a subscriber and big fan of your videos!
Wow now that is a cover! Thank you for using the Handmade Roses Stamps!
Beautyfull cover👍🧡
Great start on the book ❤

What a beautiful cover!

Totally get the “pressure “ thing 😊
I love watching ‘your brain work’! Thanks for taking us along on this journey🩷

I made a memory book for my niece (she was extra special because she came after two looses for my sister-in-law).
Lots of inspiration!! Fun pages
Thank you for sharing what you can about putting together this treasure for your brother. I know it’s going to be amazing Barbara.
