  • Jeff Healey, for those of you who don't know, was one of the most incredible guitarist that ever lived! Jeff lost his eyesight at the age of 1 year old to a form of cancer in his eyes. He picked up a guitar at the age of 3 and started developing his own unique style of playing on his lap. This man was a truely amazing musician Just watch this video if you need confirmation of this fact.
This show was a double bill with The Chris Duarte Group (see also) opening the show. This is part 2 of the Jeff Healey portion of the show. Song list for this segment is:
    1. Move To The Outskirts Of Town,
    2. Tequila,
    3. Macon Georgia Blue,
    4. Angel Eyes,
    5. Roadhouse Blues,
    6. I See The Light,
    7. While My Guitar Gently Weeps,
    8. Hoochie Coochie Man.
This is part 2. Be sure to check out part 1 and The Chris Duarte Group opener!
The following was borrowed from Wikepedia:
"Norman Jeffrey "Jeff" Healey (March 25, 1966 -- March 2, 2008) was a blind Canadian jazz and blues-rock vocalist and guitarist who attained musical and personal popularity, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, Healey was raised in the city's west end. He was adopted as an infant; his adoptive father was a firefighter. When he was one year old, Healey lost his sight to retinoblastoma, a rare cancer of the eyes. His eyes had to be surgically removed, and he was given ocular prostheses.
Healey began playing guitar when he was three, developing his unique style of playing the instrument flat on his lap. When he was 15, Jeff Healey formed the band Blue Direction, a four-piece band which primarily played bar-band cover tunes. Among the other musicians were bassist Jeremy Littler, drummer Graydon Chapman, and a schoolmate, Rob Quail on second guitar. This band played various local clubs in Toronto, including the Colonial Tavern.
Healey began hosting a jazz and blues show on radio station CIUT-FM where he became known for playing from his massive collection of vintage 78 rpm gramophone records.
Shortly thereafter he was introduced to two musicians, bassist Joe Rockman and drummer Tom Stephen, with whom he formed a trio, The Jeff Healey Band. This band made their first public appearance at the Birds Nest, located upstairs at Chicago's Diner on Queen Street West in Toronto. They received a write-up in Toronto's NOW magazine, and soon were playing almost nightly in local clubs, such as Grossman's Tavern and the famed blues club Albert's Hall (where Jeff Healey was discovered by guitarists Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert Collins).
After being signed to Arista Records in 1988, the band released the album See the Light, featuring the hit single "Angel Eyes" and the song "Hideaway", which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. While the band was recording See the Light, they were also filming (and recording for the soundtrack of) the Patrick Swayze film Road House. Healey had numerous acting scenes in the movie with Swayze, as his band was the house cover band for the bar featured in the movie. In 1990, the band won the Juno Award for Canadian Entertainer of the Year. The albums Hell to Pay and Feel This gave Healey 10 charting singles in Canada between 1990 and 1994, including a cover of The Beatles' While My Guitar Gently Weeps which featured George Harrison and Jeff Lynne on backing vocals and acoustic guitar.
On January 11, 2007, Healey underwent surgery to remove metastatic tissue from both lungs. In the previous eighteen months, he had two sarcomas removed from his legs.
On March 2, 2008, Healey died of cancer at St. Joseph's Health Centre in his home town of Toronto. He was 41 years old.
In October 2012, his family launched the 'all-new' official website at Jeffhealey.com."

First time seeing this, and it was posted 10 years ago!? Just the way I dig music; raw, sonic, improv gymnastic singing, speaking, playing, showmanship. A radiant still at 34; looks like he's being stabbed by lightning sound.
Huge kudos to whomever filmed this, you didn't miss a beat.

I first saw Jeff when his first album came out, and he played two nights at a supper club called The Strand in Redondo Beach, CA (southern Los Angeles County). On the second night, the surprise guest was Robbie Krieger of The Doors. I saw him again at the now-demolished Los Angeles Sports Arena, where he opened for ZZ Top. He was funny, smart, and enjoyed talking to the audience. I miss him and Stevie Ray Vaughn so much. They were incredibly talented men who died far too young. Rest in peace.

@ 21:30 he kinda does a "dive bomb" with his (non floyd rose) tremelo and the guitar goes alittle bit out of tune, When he starts singing he reaches over and quickly tunes one of the strings. I can tell you that's not very easy to do..

    • @TEXASFENDERBENDER
      @TEXASFENDERBENDER 9 лет назад +9

Jeff was a sweet guy and announced to the sound engineer that the monitors were not working ten minutes into the show. That comment was after an hour of having issues. If you perform live Music you will get it.

Pretty sure standard tuning. It looks like it when he plays, and the 80s guitar magazines would have said so if not. One A-hole columnist called him the blind boy wonder. Jealous of his big stretches and bends.
