    I like to define a game being "dead" as when it is no longer possible to "reasonably" be able to play it. When a game gets to the point where you basically can't play it anymore because there isn't enough other people to play it with, its dead.
    So for smash melee, it can't really 'die' because to begin with it was a local play only sort of deal. You have to go and visit other people or have them visit you and plug the controllers into the console and play on the same monitor anyways. Singleplayer games likewise also can't "die" because they're relatively static objects to begin with, saying a singleplayer game is dead is like saying that a functioning refridgerator is dead just because its an older model.
    The concept of "dead game" only really applies to games with online multiplayer and which rely upon that functionality to be playable (excepting AI/Bots, since although you *could* technically play a game forever against AI, it is well understood that this is usually not equivalent to playing against other people, comes with an upper limit as AI becomes easy to predict and abuse and thus trivialize, and is almost never the main draw of the game to begin with but rather a sort of last resort/emergency thing to help fill out low playercounts or offer a way to practice or study the game in a controlled environment)
    Dota 2 is not dead because I can still hit the Play button in my own region and decently find matches without too much hassle or wait time. If it gets to the point where the wait between matches is so obnoxiously long that I cannot reasonably play the game but maybe once or twice in a day even after hours of attempts, THEN it is dead.

    I've tried DotA 2 a few times, but there are just aspects I really dislike about it. I don't enjoy denying, I don't enjoy stacking camps, I don't enjoy blocking creeps at the start, I don't enjoy needing to keep track of TP scrolls, I don't enjoy the class fantasy of the majority of the heroes, I don't enjoy losing gold when I die, I don't enjoy how confusing the support role is. It's very tiny things that bug me and just make me wonder why they're features, though I know many people love them. DotA 2 has never clicked for me, no matter how much I've tried to learn I'll never fully understand it and it feels futile to try. Friends have said I don't "have" to learn some things, but if I'm not aiming to be better than at least average, it doesn't feel like there's a point to learning it at all.
    LoL just had a way easier on-boarding process when I first tried it in like 2013, even during the days of its monumentally awful tutorial with Thornmail Ashe. There were a bunch of characters I could connect with that had class fantasies I really enjoyed, and the first character I fell in love with was Sona, just because enchanting music has always been really appealing to me conceptually. From there it was easy to use the skills I picked up playing her and apply them to all of the other supports, which in turn webs out similarly to other champions. The game is overall just an easier and straightforward experience, with levels of depth slowly revealed as you continue to play and understand the mechanics you're dealing with.
    The ONLY character I've remotely enjoyed the class fantasy of in DotA 2 is Omniknight, and he's just an old paladin. I've tried and somewhat enjoyed other heroes, but not nearly in the same way I latched onto Sona. I know people are going to heavily disagree with me, which is fine, but I really just think the heroes in DotA 2 are conceptually boring. It's not like LoL started out with anything particularly groundbreaking, but they branched out and made each champion feel unique, even when their abilities are literally just copying other champions' abilities. Despite all of the well-deserved criticism, I think LoL remains popular because there's a champion made for almost everyone. I never felt that DotA 2 ever had a hero that was "for me".
    But, I've always enjoy these custom game videos and Baumi. Very laid back and casual, and Baumi tends to explain/showcase things well imo.

    that ability looks really bad, but could be fun to mess around with. Made me really glad when you stopped using it during the dual and just out healed Straca'13s damage to defeat him with a timeout since it was your only viable strat to win.

    honestly killing the weaver before that last duel was a mistake because that +10% against and -10% debuff on the weaver would literally have made all the difference and i believe baumi could have won against naga siren as well and then he would have won entirely

    I'm not sure why they had to do the "remove attack", except for being weird and quirky.
    It would be so much more logical to just give SF permanent -100% attack damage debuff, that way he can hit wards, frogs, weaver bugs or jug healing ward.

    Hallo Boomi, I'm from the Philippines! Dota 2 here is kinda replaced by Mobile games these days, because not a lot of people can afford a good pc to be able to play dota properly, tho there are some computer shops(where you can use computer for rent inside the shop for some money for a bit of time) they are also diminishing, lesser computer shops. That's the only main problem honestly, lack of computers.
    Also, League of Legends wasn't popular (for a time). Dota was the main game. now, Dota is just a legacy because they think it's a very complex game, tbh dota is more beginner friendly than league, cos you can study all the heroes and use them all in a match for free, unlike in League.
    I too do not have a computer or laptop to play dota :D

    Live in USA, been playing dota since beta. I may not play it as much as i use to but its not a game I will stop playing. I have played the other moba's such a LoL and hots, dota is the superior and deeper skill level game. I do not think dota is dead, as well as valve doing the right thing by adding new or changing the game up.

    I'd say DOTA is pretty rare in PH from where am at atleast
    Before covid, when PC shops are still a common sight, it used to be rarely played by kids, and mostly by the older gen. I think LoL got ahead of DOTA as the time needed for a game in both are quite far
    2 hours of DOTA 2 is often just 1 and a half game, 2 hours of League is almost 3 games

    man. SF str is one of if not the strongest wod hero. shiva 10 times better than that spell crit as it gives defence (armour) and offence (more magic damage + healing reduction) as well. and that last second on the duel.. staring into the enemies when halberd off cd. pain. with better money management you can go as far as 12-13k hp including the moon stuff + aghs

    I did not play dota very much, coming from league first. I was too overwhelmed by how different it was, because I was trying to figure out how to build characters and all I knew from before was "you are bow person that deals damage so you buy attack damage and crit", not understanding nuances of countering enemies with your choices. I know a lot more about that now but I quit the genre after 9 years of league because it was just horrible for my mental health and I only went back to league for a bit to try out the arena game mode

    Played league for so many years and also played dota for 1-2 years when the first compendium came out. Now not playing any moba but watching baumi most of the time. The problem with League there is no arcade. Some people are going to say but league has arcade but it is controlled by riot not by the community. In dota you can create something new and fun. Just look at boosted 1x6 or world of dota all of them are enjoyable. Also games are dying a little bit because people don't want to be in a competitive system with the already stress inducing life style.

  • @Amendelwyr
    @Amendelwyr Месяц назад +3

    Hey Baumi, I tried to play League once too, but I prefer Dota. I actually stomped it in ranked matches because Dota makes you think about things that League players don't. And while there are similar mechanics, its a simpler game. . . Which translates to Dota being a more difficult game, and so therefore makes a player from Dota *better* than League players.
    The problem with Dota is that they've made the game more and more complex, and changed what it was for the transition to Dota 2; which semi-alienated the og players of the game. (At least it did for me.)
    I still play Dota every now and then, but yeah, not as much as I used to. . . probably once every six months.

      hey, as a long time lol player (but only like 5 dota games) I'm wondering if you could tell me what you were thinking about that gave you an advatage and on what rank you were stomping other?

    • @Amendelwyr
      @Amendelwyr Месяц назад +1

      @TheCerberRoss League doesn't have a turn rate for the player's champion. When you sense it is time to go, or that you might get ganked, you are able to immediately bail.
      There is no *denial* mechanic to worry about. Just don't die and be able to pressure your opponent appropriately so you can earn the xp.
      Jungling (or off the lane minions) is not as significant, and therefore, time is spent in the lane and ganking.
      These are actually *enormous* difficulties to keep in mind within Dota that League just doesn't care about and therefore, the player needn't work on. Thus, when a Dota player can spend more of their game sense on the number crunch, gank awareness, and team pushing potential; we just win games...
      It's been a while, preCovid, but I remember being placed in the Diamond bracket.

    I don't really think the not able to attack for 10% dmg reduction is good, it's just so little, maybe if it was 20% or 25%?

      I think they should buff it to 12% and make it so you deal 0 damage on auto but can still attack (for applying on hit effect and deward purpose)

    League constantly changes for the worse and a lot of people I knew or still know who play/played league are addicted to it. There was that one video where some guy says "nobody is ever happy playing league" and then goes into one stream where the guy is actually happy, but he's not taking the game seriously and just kinda fucking around.
    From expirience I'd say league is much more toxic(not the community just the game design itself) and frankly, even tho league is a bigger game, finding gamea in gold takes 3-5 minutes now, for a game that might be forfeited at 15! It's ridiculous. In comparison dota ques at 2k rarely go longer than 2 minutes and games last 30+ minutes most of the time.
