Hayley.. The idea of your fabric is to let people step out of their comfort zone.. there should be no need for a refund.. they can destash it if they feel they can't use it or trade .. You didn't fall short at all
The odd shaped things are for storing bobbins and thread, so when you finish sewing you push your bobbin onto it and then the thread so you have your matching bobbin and thread. I use them all the time, they are a really handy 😊
Hi. I love that you are honest, you should always be and people who do nor want honesty should not watch. I always enjoy your videos, I wouldn’t watch though if I thought you were just being ‘nice’ all the time and not honest. I have a pair of TAL PJ’s (free pattern) made up in double gauze and they are ridiculously comfy. They are like wearing a cloud, I found the pattern comes up quite big though so need to size down a couple of sizes in my next pair.

Those things you aren’t sure what they are… they stick a bobbin and thread together! So pop the two ‘sticks’ through the centre of your bobbin then put the same bits through your spool and it keeps them together! ❤
I don't usually watch the unboxings as I'm not in a position to subscribe to them, but after seeing Haley's Instagram video I was intrigued about the fabric. I can see why it isn't to some people's tastes, however, I quite like it lol. I am a girly girl though and do like pink...I'm not a fan of double gauze though as I hate the way it's grows. It's good to be honest...I would always say if I didn't like something too.. Love the earrings, will check out that business. Thanks for sharing xx

I have been subscribing to the luxury box for 2 years and LOVE it. Part of the reason I subscribe is because i like the surprise of fabric I would not normally choose or a colorway that I wouldn't normally consider for myself. However, I give it a go and if it's not for me, I pass it on to someone else. To me part of the fun is not knowing what I am going to get. I realize that there may be a month that I might not be over the moon with what I get; however, it has to be hard to come up with new ideas month after month and try to please everyone. Plus, there is always something in the box no matter what the fabric is that is just amazing. I love these boxes and will continue to keep getting them. Overall, I think she does an amazing job with these. I appreciate your honesty and am sorry you weren't happy with it, and I hope you don't take my comment the wrong way. I respect your opinion. To me, in the long run, the lovely things in these boxes far outweigh the few things that I sometimes might not be quite sure about.
I haven’t taken you comment the wrong way, as I stated in my vlog, I loved everything bar the fabric this month. You can’t cater for everyone’s tastes, that is the gamble you take with a subscription box.
Hi, this is the first time I have watched your channel. Thank you for taking the time to do the unboxing and your total honesty with regards to the fabric. I do not think you have done anything wrong in what you have said about the fabric. Your honesty is what people want. I understand that Hayley cannot cater for everyone and she tries her best but it's a lot of money if you don't like it. I used to get the SHJ boxes but I stopped because there were some of the fabrics that I didn't like and as I didn't have a lot of money to spend on fabric, I decided to stop them. However, if money was no object, I would subscribe again in an instant as I miss the surprise that I used to get. As you have said, Hayley has made a very generous gesture to you to change the fabric and therefore, you and Hayley are both happy it has been resolved. I cannot understand why some people are saying you shouldn't have said anything. Anyway, keep doing what you're doing and be honest. I'm subscribing to your channel as I thought your review was good. x
I actually just bought some double gauze that was in the baby section of my local fabric shop. But it's white with tiny silver foil stars not baby pink lol. It's ok that you don't like it, I'm sure everyone that puts together subscription boxes knows that they won't please everybody all the time. That's an impossible task for anyone.
I have two subscriptions, I love my little miss sew and sew one, you always get two patterns to choose from (stretch or woven) along with a huge range of fabrics that cater to everyone’s tastes. But I have been challenging myself to make up the sew Hayley Jane ones, I must admit before Christmas I was considering cancelling, but then the fabrics have been amazing the last few months, this month has put me back in that frame of mind that I was in at Christmas… I’m going to have a think about what I want to do x
First box I purchased was March lovely viscose but I have seen too many fruit, kid like fabrics in the past, luxury box should have glamorous fabrics I think 🤔
I had the same experience with the beyond the pink door box, it was just not to my taste - so it’s just sitting there and I’m racking my brains about what I could usefully do with it. I don’t therefore subscribe to boxes, although often they are lovely.
Nine times out of ten they are lovely but one person cannot cater to everyone’s tastes 😊 sometimes I love the challenge of the box this month the fabric was not for me 😊 I’m sure I will love next months x
Ah you have got bobbin keepers there. Wind a bobbin in your chosen thread, put it on your keeper and then add your spool of thread. Keeps them handy together. I think they are great. Shame you don’t like the double gauze. I love it but its also a colour that I cannot wear either. Maybe you could swap with someone who has the other colourway if they don’t like theirs? Thank you for sharing and being honest about how you feel about it.
I can’t imagine the pattern being made up in that fabric. I appreciate you being honest. I’d be really disappointed. On a better note I’m happy to see that you’re feeling better. 💕
I was disappointed but it was definitely a mixed emotion because I liked everything else but let’s face it, the fabric is the most important piece 😂 Thank you… I am so much better, give me a few more weeks and I will be able to say I feel myself again x
I gave up on my luxury boxes earlier this year and haven’t regretted it. I love the surprise coming through the door, but I found my stash was lots of SHJ fabrics I wasn’t using, mainly because the colours didn’t suit me or the length was either too long or short, and I’m way behind on my FQ projects. I’ve also noticed that destash insta accounts are full of SHJ fabrics so it’s not just me! I love watching the videos of others opening boxes though. The sloth FQ is great!
Yes it’s a decision I am currently contemplating, i started my unboxing and make vlogs to try and ensure I was using them, but I am thinking I could just spend the money on something different 😊
@@whatbecsews With the Luxury boxes, you have the advantage of seeing what the pattern is and then buying it or (usually) seeing the fabric and buying it direct from Lady McElroy if you love it. You don’t get the surprise experience though. Love your honesty about this
I thought that the gift was for pulling through the bobbin thread? Although keeping bobbins in explains why there are two! I got the blue one and yes it does look completely different. When I saw your unboxing vlog I thought bliddy hell you have been quick to make up your fabric this month but I see why now!

Yours is one of the reasons why I'll never subscribe to these sewing boxes. I get the whole excitement when it arrives in the mail but it's just as exciting if not more so when I get an order of fabric delivered, especially when I can buy so much more for the money and know I'm going to love it. Plus, I'm picky about patterns and really don't like the trend of big sleeves that doesn't seem to be going away, nor do they suit me. Neither do I wear dresses often and these two things have been done to death so now are just variations of a theme. Mine is an unpopular opinion probably but I'd sooner spend my pennies on supplies I need and sew up garments I know I'll love and wear rather than get stuck with even more excess fabric and patterns that gather dust 🤷🏻♀️
Rhondda you echo my thoughts about sleeves and dresses. I am also not very good with surprises. Even online challenges, sometimes I have made something to meet the criteria of a challenge and it's never been worn! If I won a prize I would probably be picky about that too. I should just please myself, sewing is supposed to be fun!
I don’t like the color way either…as you are just going to destash….why don’t you try dying it in a demin color (with pink it will go blue purple). I think its meant to be used with the pattern enclosed….As its cotton it should easily accept dye.
This was my first box, I was terrified that I made the wrong choice after last months pink and blue tie dye fabric which is absolutely not for me! I wanted to introduce a little colour in my wardrobe but I want pieces I look and feel great in. I am disappointed by the lack luxury, double gauze is a great fabric but the print is very childish. Luxury should lavish, extravagent, splendid, a real treat, sadly this one missed the mark for me as the fabric is such a letdown, the rest of the contents are lovely. I would have bought the pattern anyway. It seems like more attention is paid to the fabric selection in the classic box and I am considering it instead, but shouldn't the content of the luxury boxes be more enticing? I will try make a dressing gown for the summer or some muslins to swaddle babies at the hospital, honestly I wish I had used the money more wisely. I am looking forward to see other peoples makes with the fabric.
I switched from the classic to the luxury, I have struggled with some boxes and then been really happy with others, I have made the decision to go one more box and if I don’t like it I may give up all together x
Baby pink at my big age 😩 Although I’m not sure I’d have preferred the blue colourway, the texture of the fabric just gives me the willies (I am also one of these people who gets the heebiejeebies from cotton wool and that’s what it reminds me of) Glad I didn’t film an unboxing this month, I’m not as diplomatic as you!

Although… there’s a lovely woman in my knitting class with young granddaughters, I bet she’d be delighted with it

I’ve received the classic box today and I’m not impressed with that fabric at all. Very wishy washy in my opinion. I like the idea of a subscription box but not been that impressed with the last few months 😢
Oh that’s a shame, I liked the look of the fabric in the classic this month, I also liked the purple colourway of last months, I do think subscription boxes are hard because everyone has different tastes, there will be someone that adores my fabric from the Luxury x
Why? I haven’t actually complained, part of my content is a unbox and make, I enjoy doing that, all I have done is been honest about not using the fabric and sharing my reasons why, equally I have stated I loved everything else in the box, an honest review. I wasn’t disrespectful and I haven’t asked for a refund, I am simply sharing that the fabric wasn’t for me.

I think Becky was being honest. The box is £65, so why shouldn't she be honest. The fact that Hayley has offered to refund or give next months box for free, is good for her, but you shouldn't say that you can't be critical. I have heard people saying they don't like the colourway, or don't think it is for them. Just the same as Becky did. She has a right to make a comment. And she wasn't being nasty about it. She just said it wasn't for her. That is fine.

It would make unboxings pointless. If people couldn’t be truthful as long as it isn’t rude or disrespectful which this isn’t. Strangely having turned 60 last year I have gone back to my second childhood and love every moment of it so watermelons on double gauze are way to go for me!!

The bobbin spindle goes into the bobbin then push it into the thread spool. They are quite useful.

It's a bobbin and spool buddy. Put your matching bobbin on first then the thread spool. Very handy 😊

I would have bought the pattern anyway. It seems like more attention is paid to the fabric selection in the classic box and I am considering it instead, but shouldn't the content of the luxury boxes be more enticing? I will try make a dressing gown for the summer or some muslins to swaddle babies at the hospital, honestly I wish I had used the money more wisely. I am looking forward to see other peoples makes with the fabric.
I switched from the classic to the luxury, I have struggled with some boxes and then been really happy with others, I have made the decision to go one more box and if I don’t like it I may give up all together x

I also had the luxury box but I got the denim blue one. Personally not happy with it either.

Although I’m not sure I’d have preferred the blue colourway, the texture of the fabric just gives me the willies (I am also one of these people who gets the heebiejeebies from cotton wool and that’s what it reminds me of)

I usually find that some of my favourite SHJ makes have been with fabrics that I didn’t like at first, but I’m deffo a bit stumped with this one. Although… there’s a lovely woman in my knitting class with young granddaughters, I bet she’d be delighted with it

I’ve received the classic box today and I’m not impressed with that fabric at all. Very wishy washy in my opinion. I like the idea of a subscription box but not been that impressed with the last few months 😢
Oh that’s a shame, I liked the look of the fabric in the classic this month, I also liked the purple colourway of last months, I do think subscription boxes are hard because everyone has different tastes, there will be someone that adores my fabric from the Luxury x

It might have been better to contact Hayley direct and not put the unboxing out IMO.
Why? I haven’t actually complained, part of my content is a unbox and make, I enjoy doing that, all I have done is been honest about not using the fabric and sharing my reasons why, equally I have stated I loved everything else in the box, an honest review. I wasn’t disrespectful and I haven’t asked for a refund, I am simply sharing that the fabric wasn’t for me.

I think Becky was being honest. The box is £65, so why shouldn't she be honest. The fact that Hayley has offered to refund or give next months box for free, is good for her, but you shouldn't say that you can't be critical. I have heard people saying they don't like the colourway, or don't think it is for them. Just the same as Becky did. She has a right to make a comment. And she wasn't being nasty about it. She just said it wasn't for her. That is fine.

It would make unboxings pointless. If people couldn’t be truthful as long as it isn’t rude or disrespectful which this isn’t. Strangely having turned 60 last year I have gone back to my second childhood and love every moment of it so watermelons on double gauze are way to go for me!!
