I was never a fan of gold watches but this VC really changed everything for me. Definitely one of their best looking watches IMHO. The bracelet as well is just absolutely stunning.
I saw the editor's note on the written site, so just wanted to say thanks for all your work at the 'dink, Jack. I'll miss seeing you here and look forward to following what you do over at Watchbox
for sure. Jack was one of the treasures at Hodinkee. With Cara and Stephen gone a lot has changed. The younger team of Cole, James and Danny are still good to have though
Jack is now at Watchbox and that’s what matters! For years now, and mostly thanks to the incredible Tim Mosso, Watchbox has produced amazing content solely focused on watches, and nothing else. Now that Jack and Tim are joining forces, they’ll be an unstoppable (horological) machine.
Me wearing a 222 for a week: darting nervously from place to place with my sleeves rolled down, anxiety inducing nervosa, brought upon by subtle time checks, and covered glances at my watch after eyeing my surroundings like a lost deer, followed by lost sleep and meticulous infantilizing of my watch.
If anyone needed any further proof that Tissot have done a near perfect job with the PRX (esp the 35mm) here it is - albeit there’s no comparison with the materials used / movement - nonetheless considering you can have a beautifully executed design like this that’s well finished on your wrist for a few hundred dollars is remarkable
Thank you for this video. What a great send-off for jack from Hodinkee. I also feel like Hodinkee should do a farewell to Jack as he moves on to Matchbox. What a great run it's been.
I do have a gold Rush , whenever I hold my 1952 omega constellation, I do think how gold is created , stellar bangs and how precious and beautiful it is !!!!
Mr. Foster, Your editorials and videos are brilliant, quirky and precisely why I started to read Hodinkee. Best of luck in whatever your next challenge may be.
That is a good looking watch. Also, thank you for everything Jack, your work has been amazing. I will miss your work here, but I look forward to seeing your work for WatchBox.
Guys, I don’t need a week to know the history and specs of this watch. A week on the wrist is: take it outside, to the office, to the pub, spend the time with your friends and family. Let us know what do you think about the watch in your day to day life activities. How does a watch cost this much affects you in your daily life, will the gold Color matches your outfit? Do you wear it casually or with formal attire ? Let us know how do you feel about it while wearing at home or in the toilet. Jack, please. This is not a week on the wrist.
You are not the only one Jack, I consider it at least 10 times a week whenever I consider the coalescence of elements from stardust to form everything. Great review. Lovely watch.
@@Superdada VC said they won't be doing any other 222, so other metals or complications. But that could just be marketing talk for "buy what we have now".
I’m very glad to see this watch as likely Jack’s last work for Hodinkee. With that said: Hodinkee is worse with Jack gone. I hope it was 100% his decision and not that of Hodinkee.
Gorgeous. I don’t like gold watches….but that is stunning. The only watch I’ve ever seen that looks BETTER in gold than silver. I’m excited for Vacheron and this home re-issue.
Absolute banger watch, sort of reminds me of the supersonic Concorde passenger jet: elegant 70s retrofuturism with no follow up (till now).. If you like the physics of gold, look up the relativistic origin of its yellow colour, its extremely strange and interesting
I love this watch, and I'm looking to pick up my second VC this spring (blue Overseas). Thinking of the third but man it's tough to justify $74k for a time/date gold watch. Basically double a day-date and $10k over an AP RO full gold.
The ultra thin Royal Oak in Yellow gold retails for $71k but you’ll never get it at retail (it’s $140k grey) think of this as (basically) the same watch without the hype of the royal oak. Day-date is no comparison, as its thickness, lack of refinement, and gaudiness make it a completely different proposition.
The current AP 16202 and recently discontinued PP 5711 are both not true to the original monocoque case construction, this 222 is a monocoque case with access through the front, they've kept it identical apart from the new movement
Why would some mainstream watch site feature an unobtainium watch on 'a week on wrist' - let me cut the story short: it feels awesome to even be in the presence of such a piece and yes it's perfect in every aspect. Please continue with hamiltons, seikos, citizens, tissots, oris's, timex's etc... This is not what I want to see: experience of John with a watch that cant be bought in a lifetime. OR provide a link that sells the watch for MSRP.
Back in 2017 the avarage Hodinkee reader made 300k USD a year according to a Gary Shteyngart's New Yorker article. It's a watch magazine, a lot of them are gonna be expensive. Like a car magazine, sometimes is the new Corolla sometimes is the new Countach.
@@Enrico- this was my opinion and I just wanted to express my expectations from the ‘week on wrist’ pieces. I don’t recall I started a debate on whether Hodinkee should cover ultra rare pieces or not…
Brilliant delivery as always.....however on this occasion the muted colour grading does a luxury watch of this calibre no favours. The rich, lustre, glister and yellow warmth of well being are missing. I hope for 60K you can extend the bracelet a couple of 8ths when flying to your tropical Island.
That's why i like J&co even if they are not mechanical good as the other high end brand, but J&co make some different watches, most of these high end watches look alike
This seems more like a basic review of the watch and an explanation of it's history and specs, which is fine. Just not sure how this is "a week on the wrist." Where did you go with it? How did it wear as you went about your daily routines? What sort of outfits did you feel inclined to wear / not wear because you had this watch as an accessory? You know...what was it like to wear it?....for a week....on your wrist?
If you like this watch but can not get it because of the price like 99,8% of the viewers probably, don‘t sleep on the Seiko 5 „Globe“ SNK665! :) even cheaper than PRX but hard to find like the VC222
I hate the double standards in the industry. This watch is almost an 1:1 with the tissot prx, still almost no one says a thing bcause VC is such an iconic brand. If Hublot came with this design, everyone was going crazy about how unoriginal they are with their idea
Assuming you're not trolling. It's an almost 1:1 *Vacheron Costantin 'Jumbo' 222* which came out 45 years ago. The PRX it's inspired by some vintage Tissot Seastars made in the late '70's. All the models from the Vacheron Historiques Collection are "contemporary reinterpretations of iconic models from the prestigious heritage of the Maison." As the company is the _de facto_ oldest Swiss watchmaker.
@@Enrico-jumbo 222 and the classic seastar came around the same time, and I am not saying by any meaning that VC is copying tissot or else, I m just trying to say that all the watches companies take little inspiration from one another and that s completely fine, I just don t understand all this hate towards Hublot for doing the same as everyone else. The integrated bracelet sports watch to rule them all imo. I think I like it even more than the Royal Oak.
The first Vacheron 222 was launched 1977. The Tissot PRX came after that. Hence saying it’s copying the PRX is just silly.
Tissot seamaster ... 1960s..... Orignal inspiration for PRX
