You can't really call it a " ridiculous strategy " since imperial Japan was literally desperate which means throwing everything they have against the Americans, it is stupid to be honest but they have my respect for their bravery, and for the 115 planes on the mission, nothing would still change if those support aircraft comes to the battle since Japan is out of experienced pilots and most of the 115 planes on the mission are tasked to kamikaze so 2 out of 10 are just fighters. The Americans have 380 aircrafts involved so let's say 80 of those were fighters, the Japanese could only get 20-30 CAP fighters, they'd easily get overwhelmed and not to mention the better F6F hellcat and F4U Corsair compared to outdated A6M Zeros and the growing experience of American aviators from previous victory air battles in the Mariana islands.
Btw :). You can make everytime some ship kills in Online matches. Just fly really quick high up and besides the ships if theres not really a hiding. Otherwise only attack from flying over islands and surprise them then drop both torps and any ship will sink, even if not instantly, then slowly after time :). If you then reach them go down to gain speed you are soo fast there, sometimes the gunner not even were ready too shoot. You need that one second from approaching the enemy behind the hiding and leave it and max 3 seconds after to be allready able to drop the torpedos closely before the ship, then they dont have any chance ;). Dont waste your plane on ships which are on "open water". The AAs will SHREDDER you 😂. And pls go in altitude to fly fast. Allready often got oneshottet from like 3 kilometres by Moffett AA's even with 300 kmh speed (dont know how much mph that is you can google it xD)
@@LM25549 There were np japanese carriers left, they were to far from land and that was a one way mission with enough fuel to get there. Sorry they had no air cover.
